An interview with Lauren of Busy Bee Lauren

12.14.10
Today we have a lovely interview with Lauren of Busy Bee Lauren. Lauren runs a super inspiring blog, and wears some of the best threads around. She has amazing style, and makes some of the cutest headbands around.
Say hello to Lauren:

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Well, my name is Lauren, and I love food. Seriously. ha! But other than that, I am an interior design student, a lover of photography, a thrift store fanatic, vintage obsessed, and I love my husband! I started dating my husband when I was 15, so we are high school sweethearts (insert “awwwws” here). We got married super young, so we are totally immature, but we love it. Oh, and I sorta blog sometimes. And by sometimes, I mean everyday. ๐Ÿ™‚

2. What got you interested in blogging, and how long have you been blogging for?

Honestly, I kinda went into blindly, not knowing that eventually blogging would be a huge thing. I started when I was 18, and when it wasn’t really the cool thing to do. I made a blog mostly because I was so insanely bored. I have no been blogging more than 4 years! The 4 years has covered a crazy amount of big life events. I am really grateful for all of the documentation!

3. Can you tell us about your style?

I like to call it “eclectic”. While I love the newer trends, we can’t afford for me to go shopping at regular clothing stores. I have really had to learn to be creative with thrift store finds. The lucky thing is, my favorite thrift store has quite a decent selection of vintage dresses and blouses. I like to mix vintage clothing with a touch of modern day edginess and spunk ๐Ÿ™‚ Also, I am all about color. I rarely wear neutrals.

4. I’ve noticed quite a few blogger ladies wearing your headbands lately. They’re fabulous! What other kind of crafts do you enjoy doing?

I get so excited seeing people in my headbands or hair clips! It gives me warm fuzzies. I really love to paint, and I am a big do-it-yourselfer. Most of our entire home has been found at a thrift store, and redone by me. Not only does it save us a ton of money, it’s super fun!

5. What are your favorite trends for winter?

I love all of sequins! I have always loved anything with sparkles, so to see all of the beautiful sequined tops, dresses and blazers, has made my heart skip a beat! The cool thing is, most thrift stores carry lots of 80’s beaded tops and jackets, so you can find things “on trend” that are also vintage…and unique! Love that.

6. When you’re not busy creating cute headbands, blogging, and working, what can you be found doing?

Cooking, spending time with family, and reading. I have always loved to cook, and it’s gotten to the point where I don’t even look at recipes much anymore. I love just creating new dishes. Also, spending time with family has always been one of my favorite things, and something I feel is so important. You can never make enough memories. And of course reading…I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to books. I would read a book over shopping or basically anything else. Me and my book boyfriends? We are very serious. Don’t mess.

7. With regards to fashion, what do you draw inspiration from?

I love the 70’s…especially the hippies. Oh man…how I love the way those women dressed. The feminine, light and flowy dresses. The feathers and beads. The closeness with nature. Ahhhh! I love!

8. If you had to pick one outfit to wear the rest of your life, what would it look like?

Well…it would probably be this. I love this vintage maxi dress. It is seriously so comfortable, and I love how it ties at the waist. It is basically one of my favorite finds of all time.

9. Your husband Ted and your family seem to be a big part of your blog. What do they think about it?

Ha! They are very supportive. Obviously Ted is a pretty good sport…I mean he lets me take all of those photos of him, ha! But the funny thing is, he has only read my blog like 5 times total. It’s awesome. My mom is probably my biggest supporter…always reading and commenting. She is the bomb. Also, she gets strangers coming up to her all the time because of the blog, so I think she enjoys that ๐Ÿ™‚

10. Do you have any advice for aspiring fashion bloggers? What about someone that is new to blogging?

Be who you are, and love it. Don’t follow fashion trends because you think you should…wear what makes you feel happy and pretty! The same could be said for blogging. Blog about what makes you happy, and represents who you are as a person ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you so much Lauren for doing this interview with me! Don’t forget to check out Lauren’s blog (and say hello of course!).
