Last week Scott and I went checked out the newly opened, second location of Paletas Betty in downtown Tempe. This little shop serves handmade mexican style cream and ice pops made from fresh ingredients. Over the summer I had heard a lot about this popsicle joint (I think I heard that on a movie once and just had to use it), so I thought it would be best to try it out on one of the hottest days of the year (well it was 116, and it surely felt like it at least).
Scott got the Nuez, which is made with roasted pecans and a cream base. He really liked all of the nuts in it, and thought it was delicious.
Although they have a handful of flavors at any given time, my choices were pretty limited (two that is) because dairy and I don’t mix well together. I ended up getting the Arando, a fresh blueberry and lemonade mix.
My popsicle sort of had a weird, icicle texture to it (like it had been re-frozen after being melted once). The flavor though was very good, and I thought the signature Betty bite out of the top side of the popsicle was darling.
The shop is pretty tiny, but simple and clean. I’m not sure when Scott and I will be going there again, but I’m opened to trying it twice.
Have any locals tried out Paletas Betty? Any non-locals have any sweet popsicle shops in your hometown?
