23 Birthday Candles

05.02.11
Today I turn the big 23! It seems just like yesterday I was turning 13! Sometimes it is so hard to believe how fast life goes by, but I have to say that I am so happy with where my life has taken me (love, amazing education, blogging, etc.), and I am so excited to see where it takes me in the future (love, marriage, continuing my education, and starting a family one day).

Dress: J Crew; Bracelet: J Crew/gift from my love; Sandals: Sofft

This past weekend I spent time in Northern Arizona with my family, but before I left Scott and I went on a little photo adventure in historic downtown Mesa. I decided to wear this dress to show off what I’m going to be wearing today on my birthday. I originally purchased this dress to wear to graduation, but after falling in love with a different dress at Anthropologie, I decided to count this as my birthday dress and get the dress of my graduation dreams. The J Crew dress was also a super score because it was on major sale!
I just love how the dress swishes back, and forth.

Scott and I spotted this pretty fence while driving to a concert a few weeks ago. Once we came back and took a closer look, we both fell in love with the spot not only for the pretty fence, but also because of the amazing historic home and vintage car that sits behind.

Did you happen to notice that some of the above photos had a bit of a vignette on them? Well, here’s a little story behind the pretty photo decorations. Scott recently showed me this shade/filter he had for a 58mm lens, and since it fits my kit lens on my Canon Rebel, we decided to give it a shot while out on our photo adventure. The filter itself is a bit dark, but didn’t seem to affect the photos much. The shade is pretty long, so it gave most of our photos a lovely vignette. I am really pleased with how all of these photos turned out, and we will definitely be using the shade/filter combo again in the future!

Even though I am technically a spring baby, I will always feel like a fall baby at heart. The colors and scenery in these photos feel so very fall to me, and I just love that. If only I could have a pumpkin spice latte as a birthday treat!
This morning I am celebrating early with Scott before he has to head off to school to finish up a project, and then I’m heading to The Coffee Shop with my cousin for cupcakes and coffee (ok, I might have real breakfast food as well). I also have class x two today, and then I’m going to Liberty Market for birthday dinner with Scott and my family.

Before I go to begin the birthday fun, I want to thank Scott for taking such lovely photos, and for being the shining light in my life. I am so thankful for him and his love, and I so happy and excited to share another birthday celebration with him!
What are you up to today? What do you usually do on your birthday?
