Our Summer Backyard Adventures

07.27.20

Summer 2020 has been the year of the backyard and we’ve been loving it! Since our family has been spending more time home the past few months, we’ve been investing more time in our backyard space and into items and activities that will provide a lot of family fun for our little trio. With the building of our greenhouse back in the spring, we’ve continued to grow into this space and often center it around activities that we can all do together: including more gardening, watering together (Ace LOVES helping with this chore) and most recently a smores night in with our little guy! Before I get too far into this post, I wanted to share that I’m so excited to be partnering with Zappos and KEEN Kids today! I know ya’ll know this, but I’ve been a long-time Zappos customer and always love getting the chance to share my favorite one-stop-shop website and some of their amazing retailers. Don’t forget – Zappos also offers fast, two-day free shipping with a Zappos Rewards account, 24/7 customer service and a 365 day return policy! Most recently, we picked up a few new pairs of KEEN shoes for the whole family — matching Newports for Scott and Ace and a pair of Lana cross strap sandals for myself, that way we can rock and play in them during our backyard adventures!

With all that’s going on in the world, I know our family isn’t alone in looking for more creative ideas of things to do in our own backyard, so I wanted to share a few other ideas + tips and tricks that have been so helpful and keeping us busy in our own space lately:

  1. Plant a garden (it’s not too late and I know your and/or your little one will have fun with it)!
  2. Getting on a watering schedule (gives your family something to look forward to every day or evening)!
  3. Have a smores party (roasting marshmallows is optional, especially if you have little onesO!
  4. Go on a scavenger hunt (based on your own space and age of your child — a color hunt would be so much fun)!
  5. Popsicle date (make your own popsicles and then enjoy them together in your own space)!
  6. Set up your own family glamping in your backyard (Ace would be SO excited to hang out in our tent and share some snacks under the stars)!

It’s been so fun seeing the boys in their matching KEEN Newports! Ace actually had an even tinier pair (in the same colorway) last summer that my parents had picked up for him while in Colorado. They were super durable and easier for him to romp around in when he was still getting his sea legs, so it’s fun to see him wearing them again!

If your summer routine is looking like ours with lots of time spent in your own backyard, be sure to check out KEEN Kids and KEEN for adults for all of your outdoor wear needs! You can shop them and so many other rad brands via your Zappos Rewards account!
