Winter Bones

02.16.12

This morning I feel as if winter is in my bones. My freezing hands tell me that the winter has sunken in, and that I better partake in it while I can. I truly love this time of year. I always feel like I flourish when the fall and winter months come around. My creativity is flowing, and the hot coffees are in abundance. I want to go on adventures in the snow, and visit cities that cherish the seasons just as much as I do. I swear, I will never get over the nostalgia that comes along with the latter seasons of the year.

Yesterday Scott and I spent some time in Scottsdale after his internship. We ate lunch at Zoe’s Kitchen (my first time eating there!), and looked around a few stores. I spotted so many pair of colored jeans that would be great from spring, but I refrained myself from trying them on for now (I still have so many pieces of my winter wardrobe to mix up!). Later in the afternoon we had a lovely coffee date with our friend Sarah at Lux Central. I absolutely love the atmosphere there, and the coffee is always delicious. It was so great to talk with her about life and creativity. I swear, she’s the sweetest!

I kind of love how flowy the sleeves are on this sweater. I feel like a 1970’s surfer babe in it! Haha.

Still loving these Bicker Booties as well! They’re on super sale right now over on the Blowfish Shoes website! They would work perfectly into a spring wardrobe, and would be great to bring back next fall and winter!

Today I have a lot to catch up on, but I want to go into it with a positive attitude and mind in hope that everything I’ve been having trouble finishing will magically make sense and make it’s way from my mind to the word document. This can happen, right? This girl needs to get some work done!
What do you have planned for today?

She Loves Me So

02.15.12

Last week Scott and I went to see one of our favorite musicians, Anthony Green, at a local venue. In the past we had seen him play with one of his bands, Circa Survive, a few times, and always at larger venues. Since this time around we knew he would be playing songs from his solo albums, we knew we had to go. It was a major bonus to see him play in a smaller venue!

We started the show in the back of the room in the 21+ area, and ended up closer to the front of the stage. I might have had a few panic attacks from being so close to everyone (how did I stand that when I was younger?), but otherwise it was a pretty special show. Anthony played all my favorite songs, and really had fun with the crowd. It was definitely a show that I will not soon forget!

This is what I wore to the show that evening. I may have taken off the cardigans because it got way too hot in that crowd, but otherwise I felt really great in my “show ensemble.” I’m kind of really digging the mixing of patterns, and the pop of the rust color.
Today I have some work to finish up, and might be meeting Scott for lunch in Scottsdale. I also hope to see Sarah later this afternoon/evening, and could really go for some iced coffee right now. Oh, and maybe some chocolate too. We have WAY too much chocolate floating around our house right now! Oh my!
What are you up to today? XO

My Valentine

02.14.12

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Today is Scott and I’s sixth Valentine’s Day together, and I’m so excited to celebrate our love today! Over the past five and a half years the love we have for one another has grown immensely (we were just kids when we met), and I’m so thankful to have him in my life. He really is the best Valentine a girl could ever hope for (and he’s all mine, forever and ever).
Hope you all have a sweet day full of love and laughter (and maybe some chocolate too!).

Evening Chill

02.13.12

The past few days had me thinking that spring was already here, but yesterday evening, as the sun was setting, I was reminded that winter is still around. I feel like I need to take in every bit of winter before it’s gone. I always get sentimental about my two favorite seasons passing by, but it’s nice to know that just like clockwork, they will come back around to me next year and I will get to relive all of the amazing nostalgia that comes with seasons all over again. I swear, I love fall and winter!

My very sweet friend Gaby sells these darling bows in her Etsy shop, Paperplanes & Maryjanes. I’ve always been a fan of crochet and knit accessories, and these are just darling for adding something special to an every day outfit. Perfect for brightening a spring ensemble! Gaby has been so sweet to offer a 20% off discount on everything in her shop to all Tea Talk readers with the discount code: FRIENDOFCHELSEA PS She always has free shipping!
I’m still loving my Explodes from Blowfish Shoes. I’ve been really wanting a comfortable pair of shoes to wear around campus and while out running errands, and these have proven to be them. Also, they’re on super sale right now over on the Blowfish Shoes website if you’re in need of a comfy pair of cute maryjanes!
I honestly kind of adore this outfit. I got this cardigan while in Colorado last winter, and can’t believe it took me so long to bring it out this winter. Wearing it kind of feels like wearing a giant blanket. It’s seriously SO cozy! I decided to belt it with this sweet dear rose belt from Le Mode Accessories to give it more of a cinched waist look. Cozy and comfortable!
I can’t believe tomorrow is already Valentine’s Day! A few weeks ago I had a nightmare that I realized it was Valentine’s Day and I had nothing planned. I literally woke up in a panic! Because of this dream I made sure to get my Valentine’s Day plans and treats in order before the holiday got here. I’m very excited to celebrate with Scott! This will be our sixth Valentine’s Day together. Oh my goodness!
Do you have plans for Valentine’s Day? XO

Us in Winter

02.12.12

These are my two favorite photos of Scott and I from recently. I feel like they both capture our spirits very well. I’m also loving the gorgeous winter light in them, which will be gone before we know it. Anyways, today I’m feeling a little sentimental and (almost) ready for a full day of errands and school work. Here’s to hoping it’s a nice one (filled with iced coffees).

Enders Events

02.11.12
My very sweet friend Jenn recently launched Enders Events, a boutique event design and planning studio. These photos were a part of a Hunger Games/Valentine’s Day inspired photo shoot that she put together, and I’m absolutely in love with them!

(Do I see pair of Ugglebo Clogs? Yes, I do!) Also, all photos by Stephanie McDowell.
You can read more about the photo shoot on the Enders Events blog, like them on Facebook, and visit their temporary website. I honestly can’t wait to see what Jenn comes up with next! She’s such a talented lady, and I’m so excited for her and this new venture. Wishing you all the best, Jenn!
Happy Saturday!

The Secret Garden

02.10.12

Every day has its ups and downs. Lately I’ve been thinking that I really need to take into account each victory (no matter how big or small) that occurs in my daily life. Yesterday I started the morning off with a giant bonk on my head (yeah, I can be clumsy), but throughout the day I tried to focus on the two giant iced coffees I consumed, and the cute clothes I splurged on at Athropologie (I did get them on major sale, but, ya know) instead of thinking about my aching head. Anyways, what I’m trying to say is that I really don’t want to let one negative thing totally get my entire day down. Ya know what I’m saying?

There’s this great place on the ASU Tempe campus called The Secret Garden. Why you ask?Well, it’s actually a real secret garden hidden in between a group of buildings. There’s no large fence around it that you need to have a key to unlock (although, there is a small gate that I’m assuming they use to lock it up at night), and it hasn’t been neglected for years (didn’t you see/read The Secret Garden growing up?). However, it does have this wonderful charm to it, one that never seems to wear off on me. I will forever love this secret garden!
Oh my! It’s almost the weekend! Scott and I don’t really have any plans yet, but I do know that are noses will be buried in books and computers for part of it. Oh grad school, you really know how to brighten up a weekend (just kidding!). I would like to pick up a yummy coffee, and maybe jam out to some good music.
Do you have any plans for the weekend? XO

Comfort Zone?

02.09.12

Like in every day life, I have a certain comfort zone when it comes to clothing. Every once and awhile I look to push myself to try something that I feel is outside of my comfort zone. These green, corduroy pants are my most recent push to extended those imagery boundaries. But hey, spring is on it’s way and green matches my eyes, so I think we’re in a good place!

Black & Brown

02.08.12

Right now I’ve got a song in my head and it just won’t stop. It may be due to the fact that I heard it sung live the other night, or because it’s one of my favorite songs of all time. Either way, my brain is currently a little unfocused (lack of sleep could be a factor in this as well), and I’m hoping this shakes off soon (didn’t I say that yesterday? it really has been one of those weeks).
When you were growing up, do you remember hearing never to mix black and brown? I always thought that was such a silly statement, and never let that get between my love for pairing and layering neutral colors together. I’m actually pretty smitten with the mixing of colors in this sweet tunic/dress, and found it fitting for a warm afternoon in Phoenix (and for an evening at one of my night classes as well).
Scott is also a big fan of mixing neutral colors together. For the both of us, I think this tendency/love for neutral layering has definitely been a progression over the past five or six years (still can’t believe we’ve been together almost six years!). I remember in high school I really loved brightly colored band t-shirts, and was always a fan of “loud” shoes. For Scott, he wore a lot of black (yep, he was into Metal!), but was always into the occasional loud shirt and red shoes. Today, we both still really love fun shoes, but I think our style is definitely more “grownup” (or, at least we can never say no to a great neutral or classic piece!).

This morning I’m going to sip some coffee and spend some time re-focusing on a few upcoming projects I need to either finish up, or get started on. Lately my mind has felt a little scattered, and I in no way want my school work to be affected because of it. So here’s to jotting down lists, notes, and anything else that may come my way in my Charlie Brown Moleskine planner (because using cute notebooks/planners always make things seem more fun).
Do you ever have those weeks where you just feel off? How do you bring yourself out of that funk? XO
