River Walk

06.13.11

It’s safe to say summer layering is my favorite. Or maybe just layering in general. I love the comfort of lots of layers, and also how different layers can change the whole look of an outfit (a great way for switching up beloved outfits).

The other day we had a chilly morning, so I bundled up a bit and headed down to the river. I spent some time just enjoying the sound of the rushing water, and sipping my iced. It really was a nice few minutes, and most certainly the calm before the storm that was about to hit.

This past week I spent a few days in Denver, CO with my dad’s side of the family. I don’t really want to go into too much detail, but I have a family member in the hospital and had a sudden death in the family. Your kind thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
This week I’m looking forward to spending time in Glenwood Springs (CO). Glenwood is a beautiful town, and has the loveliest downtown area. They also have quite a few “famous landmark” spots that I’m hoping to visit, which include a natural hot springs pool (I probably will wait to go to this until Scott comes to visit), the grave site of Doc Holiday (although he have said that his body more than likely has slid down the mountain side in the past hundred or so years since his death), and a grand hotel where they claim that the first teddy bear was made for Teddy Roosevelt.
I’m also going to spend some time in my favorite coffee shop in Glenwood, Sacred Grounds, and hopefully working on some letters and thank you cards while I’m here. I can already see a large iced coffee and an amazing bran muffin in my near future.
By the way, I still can’t get over the beauty of this area. It’s absolutely breathtaking!

What are you up to today? Have you ever visited Glenwood Springs before?

A 50 mm picnic

06.11.11

A few days before I left for Colorado Scott and I had an adventure day in downtown Phoenix. The first thing on our list to do was to go on a picnic in a cute neighborhood by my favorite local coffee shop. During our time sitting in the grass we snapped some shots with my 50 mm lens. The photos pretty much speak for themselves, so I will let them do just that.

Button hair barrette was a gift from Molly of Vivi Dot. I just love how it holds my hair backs, and looks fashionable at the same time.
Today is a very sad day for my family. Please keep us in your thoughts. Thank you dearly.

A Walk Through Downtown Grand Junction

06.10.11

Today I thought I would share a few peeks at Grand Junction, CO. I’ve spent a lot of time here over the years, and definitely have my favorite spots. I love spending time in downtown, roaming the shops and sipping iced coffee (but really when do I not love that? NEVER!). Anyways, here are some snapshots from a walk I went on the other day through downtown Grand Junction.

Roasted Coffee shop. Best iced coffee in downtown.
Cute, vintage buggy outside of a hip baby/kid clothing store.
Record store to the left, and concert venue in the middle.
Pretty art wall for a children’s hospital.
Cutest knitting shop!
Main Street Bagels, my go-to place for breakfast and lunch in downtown. They have awesome Greek salads, and the yummiest pastries.
Inside Main Street Bagels.
Lavender french macaroon and iced coffee from Roasted.
Brown’s Shoe Fit Co., a shoe store for a slightly older crowd, but you really can find some gems in there every once and awhile.
Have you been on any fun, summertime walks lately?

Summer Rain Day

06.09.11

Even though Colorado has some gorgeous days during the summer, it also has some very dark, dreary, and down right cold days. Not too soon after I got to Colorado we had one of those dreary days. My body felt shocked from the cold, but I had an urge to head outside when the sun finally decided to shine through the clouds.

For a few days I had to go back to dressing for cold weather days. I completely didn’t mind, and was actually pretty excited to layer a few pieces I hadn’t worn in awhile.
My first year of college I bought this vest from UO after seeing a friend have it, and being in love with the idea of a denim vest. I recently re-discovered it and kind of fell in love with it all over again. If you look close you can see my The Format pin on the collar. The Format was my favorite band in high school. I must have seen them eight or nine times. What fun I had at their shows!
Since it had been raining on and off I opted to wear my rain boots. Since it doesn’t rain very much in Arizona, I don’t get to wear them often (and even when it does I forget about them), so I decided to jump at the opportunity to slip them on. I think every girl deserves a pair of cute rain boots in her wardrobe.
On another note, yesterday my family decided to drive from Grand Junction, CO to Denver, CO for a few days. The plan is to visit my grandparents in Thornton (where my dad grew up), and to hopefully do a little shopping as well. Before I left home I did some shopping at my local Levi’s store and they gave me a list of their stores in the Denver area (not going to lie, they were a bit sad to hear I was leaving for the summer. Scott and I are in there at least once a week browsing and visiting), so I’m hoping I can stop by at least one location (and maybe at an American Apparel too).
What are your plans for today? Do you have a pair of cute rain boots in your wardrobe?

Down By The River

06.08.11
Lately the beautiful scenery surrounding me has be in an abundance, and I’m very thankful for that.
Last summer when I was in Avon my cousin and I went to Starbucks and I tricked him into walking with me down by the river (he’s not one for nature walks). Well this year when I got to Avon the river walk was fresh in my mind and was one of the first places I wanted to go.

The river lines a walking path that goes through town. The spot I stopped at is near a ski resortand tons of people were out walking, running, biking, and even white water rafting by (if you look hard you can see a few of them in the river).
Being surrounded by such beautiful always seems sooth my soul. Being away from home, Scott, and all that I love is definitely hard at times, but seeing such beauty and taking in the calmness of a flowing river is definitely good for me. Free therapy is what I like to call it.

This week I’m going to be spending some time in Grand Junction, CO, stopping in at all my favorite spots and maybe even getting my shopping on. They have some amazing antique shops and coffee houses here, so I am sure my week will be plenty busy.

What are you up to this week? What kind of affect does nature have on you?

Thoughts on my Jo Tote

06.07.11
Since I’ve been in Colorado I’ve been on my own for outfit photo adventures. Just me, my camera, and my Jo Totes rose bag.
I knew that this summer I would be carrying around my Jo Tote a lot. It’s roomy, lightweight, padded to protect my camera equipment, and has interchangeable inserts that I can move around to fit my camera and regular purse goods.

Well, I’ve been carrying it for almost three weeks non-stop and I have to say that it’s been the perfect bag. I’ve taken it with me down by rivers, through wooded areas, and all around on my travels.
I really love how it hold holds my camera + 50 mm lens safely, and also allows me to carry all of my purse essentials + a few outfit photo adventure items that I never leave home without.
From left to right (starting at the top): Rose bad salve, Butter Bees lip balm, Droid phone, Ipod, tripod part, comb, bunny snacks, tissues, F21 scarf, camera lens cap, planner, wallet, sunglass case.
If you’re looking for a good camera bag for summer, I high suggest this one. I really love mine, and I’m already thinking about getting the Millie crossbody as an alternative.
Do you have a favorite camera bag? What do you not leave home without when going on a photo adventure?

Blue Jean Baby

06.06.11
My love obsession with jean is no secret. I’m a huge fan of denim and wear it almost daily. To me, denim is so classic in chic. Everything I look for in a good outfit.
These photos were taken before I left Phoenix. It was a perfect warm evening and the sun was setting on my sweet town.

Long ago I received the sweetest package from a new friend and this pretty little head scarf was in it. Today that new friend is a great friend, and Courtney is one of the sweetest people I know. I already can’t wait to have a coffee date with her when I get home.
Lately I’ve been really digging this vintage scarf in the hair thing. The other morning I was running late and needed to get dressed in a hurry. Since my hair was fairly dirty (second day it’s already a greasy mess, even in cool weather) I just pulled it up and tied my favorite red, blue, and yellow vintage scarf in it. I instantly felt better about my hair and walked out the door.

Today I’m heading to Palisade, CO (right outside of Grand Junction). Palisade is famous for their peaches, and is super close to my fav city of Grand Junction. I plan on spending some time in Grand Junction this week, eating at my favorite bagel shop, getting iced coffee at my fav local coffee shop, and hopefully attending their farmer’s market (although I might wait until Scott gets here because last year we went together and it just felt like our thing).
What do you think about scarves in your hair? Have you ever been to Grand Junction before?

Taking in the Sights

06.05.11

Lately, I’ve been taking in some breathtaking sights. I thought it would be fun to share a few peeks of all the natural beauty I’ve been setting my eyes on. All photos were taken in Avon and Edwards, CO.

Breathtaking, right?
What are you up to this lovely Sunday?

Joe’s Farm Grill Dinner Date

06.04.11

One of my favorite summertime dates is to go to a restaurant where Scott and I can sit outside and enjoy the nice weather. After our peach picking adventure Scott and I stopped by Joe’s Farm Grill to have a nice, outdoors dinner.

Beautiful trees above the outdoor seating at Joe’s. My favorite spot.

At Joe’s I had sweet potato fries and grilled cheese. The sandwich was so good, and the fries are my favorite.
Scott had french fries and a pork bbq sandwich, although he thought the sandwich didn’t need the bbq (he actually thought it would ruin the flavor of it). To say he liked the sandwich would be an understatement!

We both had arnold palmers (lemonade and iced tea). I’m pretty sure this is my new favorite summer drink!
My lovely date.
While I’m in Colorado I’m definitely going to miss eating at Joe’s. I love their outdoor seating, and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. I already can’t wait to go back in August!
What’s your favorite summertime date?
