Best of 2010

12.31.10
Following in Elise’s lead, I thought I would do a best of 2010 post to celebrate what a great year I had. Here are a handful of my choices:

Here’s to hoping 2011 will be a great one. I haven’t decided on mine just yet, but I will let you know when I do so.
What are your plans for this evening?

A Cloudy Phoenix Day

12.30.10
Phoenix has been one cloudy place lately. I have to say though, that I don’t miss the sun much. My mom and her side are from Seattle, Washington, and I’ve always said that that was the place for me. Every day that the sun is hidden for the day here, I take that as a test to see how I would survive actually living in Seattle. One day I think I will live there, one day.
Cardigan: JCrew
T-shirt: Eddie Bauer
Bag: Coach
Jeggings: Levi’s
Boots: Cole Haan
Jacket: The North Face
Shirt: Levi’s
Jeans: Levi’s
Boots: Fossil
The other day Scott and I were rocking some of our Christmas gifts, including new sweaters and coats, a purse, and boots. The sweater I’m wearing I actually picked out while in Colorado (because sometimes it’s hard to Christmas shop when you’re always together), and I really love the floral pattern on it. The boots Scott is wearing were picked out by him one day while shopping, but I surprised him with them. And the purse was a gift from my parents, and I’m honestly in love with it. There are SO many pockets in it.
My mom wanted to buy Scott this The North Face coat so he would have a nice warm coat for the chilly days we’ve been having in Phoenix. While shopping it was so hard not to pick up numerous other cute cold weather coats, but I had to remember that I would be going back to Arizona soon and wouldn’t have such need for such a heavy, and warm coat.

I’m pretty thrilled that Scott loves his boots. I look at it from the perspective that they look good, and they also keep his ankles in check (my guy has bad ankles after accidents, and other problems because of them, sadly).

Oh, and my new riding boots where also a gift this holiday season. They are tall, good quality, and super cute-everything I wanted in a new pair of boots.

Today Scott and I have plans to check out a local restaurant that we’ve heard so much about, and later we’re meeting up with Adrianna, owner of Le Mode Accessories, and tonight were going to one of our friend’s house to see her before she heads back up to Prescott.
What are you doing today?

Coffee Date with Courtney & Kingsley

12.29.10

Yesterday morning Scott and I had a coffee date with our dear friend Courtney and her pup Kingsley.

I decided to bring the new camera for a spin on our morning outing. It’s safe to say that I’m already in love with the photos that it’s producing.

Iced coffee, hot coffee, and a berry scone to share. Great way to start the day!
It was really nice to catch up with Courtney. The months of November and December kept Scott and I so busy, and unfortunately we didn’t see Courtney and her fiance Sanford as much as we would have liked to, so it was extra nice to spend a few hours sipping coffee, and chatting about our lives together.

Not to mention, Courtney and Sanford have THE cutest dog, Kingsley, and Scott and I were able to play with him, and pet him during our visit.

Kingsley showed us that he had never seen birds before in his life, and found them rather interesting to watch.
Now that the new year is upon us, and Scott and I still have some time off from school, I am hoping that we will have more time to hang out with our amazing friends, like Courtney and Sanford. I feel truly blessed to have such creative, positive people in my life.

The Coffee Shop

12.29.10

The other morning Scott and I went on a lovely breakfast date to one of our favorite local places, and afterward we took full use of it’s beautiful surroundings.

Sweater: Halogen
Shirt: Anna Sui for Target
Vintage necklace: Present from Scott
Jeggings: Levi’s
Oxfords: Steve Madden

Cardigan: Eddie Bauer
Shirt: Hanes
Jeans: Levi’s
Shoes: TOMS

The leaves surrounding The Coffee Shop were beautiful, and all over the ground. While we were there it felt like the perfect fall day, something that Arizona winters are known for (winter=fall in Central AZ).

Lately the weather has bee in the 60’s, and chilly in the morning and night. The need to wear a heavy coat hasn’t really been there, but I’ve been taking every chance I get to layers anyways. I was gifted a few pretty cardigans for Christmas, and have been trying to wear style a new one every day for the past few days. I’ve been having a lot of fun with new patterns that have made their way into my wardrobe. I’ve never been much of a patterns girl, but I guess there’s a time and place for everything.
Since I got home from Colorado I’ve found myself drawn to simple outfits, and simple outings with my guy. I haven’t really felt like dressing up too much (no dresses and skirts), but I think that will all changed very soon. The holiday chaos is almost over, and I’m ready to get back into my normal groove. However, I am not ready for school to start again. Thank goodness I still have a few weeks off.

Has the holidays put you in the mood to dress up less, or have they had the opposite affect on you and you’ve found yourself in dresses and cut shoes every day?

New camera, courtesy of my love

12.29.10

For Christmas Scott, my absolutely amazing boyfriend and biggest supporter, gave me a brand new Canon Rebel XSi! It is a beautiful camera, and I am overwhelmed by his kindness. I have been talking about buying a new camera since shortly after I purchased my last one (almost four years ago), and was amazingly surprised at what Scott had wrapped up for me.

I am so excited to have such a nice camera, and promise many lovely photos will come from it. Happy Holidays!

& Thank you my love for such a wonderful gift, from the bottom of my heart.

An interview with Kaelah of Little Chief Honeybee

12.28.10

Today we have a lovely interview with Kaelah of Little Chief Honeybee. Kaelah runs an amazing blog, a sweet Etsy store, and is a momma to the two cutest pups you’ve ever seen.

Say hello to Kaelah:

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

-Well, let’s see here… I’m Kaelah Bee and I blog over at Little Chief Honeybee! I’m a 22 year old recent college graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. I’ve spent the past 4 years getting a degree in graphic design with no real intention of persuing it. I spent the past two summers working as the art intern at BUST magazine while living in New York City and it was a whirlwind of adventure. But for now I’m stationed in a sweet little town just south of Nashville where I share a quaint green home with my boyfriend, Mike, and our two silly girls (Georgia Sue, our English Bulldog and Pipkin LaRue our Frech Bulldog!). I’m a heavily tattooed bartender with cotton candy pink hair that collects vintage cameras and is obsessed with Great White sharks… I feel like the most insane girl alive sometimes!

2. What got you interested in blogging, and how long have you been blogging for?

-I’ve had some form of online blog since I was 14 (Hey LiveJournal and Xanga!). I poured my heart into some of those old LJs and I still sneak back to read them every so often. I even met my very best friend via LJ and we’re so incredibly close to be so far away (but that makes it so much better when I do get to see her!) I started my blogspot in May 2009 when I was embarking on my solo adventure of moving to New York City to work at BUST. It was a way for family and friends to keep up with my shenanigans while being 1000 miles away. It’s just kept growing ever since!

3. Can you tell us about your style?
-To put it simply: I’m very very girly. That’s usually not what people expect when they see a bright haired girl with facial piercings and an abundance of tattoos, but I only own one pair of jeans (and you’ll never see them on the blog because I only wear them when bartending!). Every single day I’m in a dress (usually floral print), a ruffled cardigan, tights and flats. Also sporting a headband. Maybe it’s a bit mundane and expected, but I feel like I’ve finally refined my style enough to know what works for me. I don’t feel good in jeans and even though I’ve been asked by blog readers in the past to “branch out”, I say why fix something that isn’t broken?! I feel my absolute best when sporting a sweet dress and colorful tights. And don’t even get me started on my lack of coordination in heels! I really just like being able to show that heavily modified girls can be classy, too.
4. You seem to have a true love for dresses. What do you like about them so much, and why do you prefer them over jeans?
-There’s just something undeniably uplifting about dresses. I feel like no matter what kind of dress you wear, you look put together and dressed up! I’m a firm believer in dressing up for absolutely no special reason. They make me feel whimsical and carefree and just… feminine! I feel like jeans can look so great on so many people, but they just don’t flatter my body style. When you’ve got a big ol’ booty like me, you don’t always want to walk around looking like a fresh picked pear! Dresses help balance out my body by being flouncy at the hips but accentuating a smaller bust and waist. I think it’s just a matter of proportions.
5. What are your favorite trends for winter?
-I’ve never been a good cold weather dresser. I’m guilty of wearing flip flops well through December (with snow on the ground) and “forgetting” my jacket at home, but this year I’ve really started to embrace the look of layers. I try to stay away from looking too chunky or frumpy, but a skirted peacoat and circle scarves of all colors have been my winter staples thus far! Oh, and warm colored tights! Maroon and mustard are seeing me through the new year!
6. When you’re not busy blogging, working, and being a momma to two cute pups, what can you be found doing?
-Phew! You talk like that leaves time for anything! Haha kidding! Well now that I’ve graduated, I spend my weekdays crafting, wasting too much time on the internet, secretly planning our move out of state for 2011 and daydreaming about my own little retail shop in the future. I also spend an obscene amount of time with the pups at the bark park and getting tattooed.
7. With regards to fashion, what do you draw inspiration from?
-I’m so inspired by other bloggers out there and just people in “real life”… No one in particular really but I just don’t find high fashion designers or runway shows to be particularly inspiring. I really do love looking at the lookbooks of smaller shops and brands, but I’d rather peruse my Google Reader than open a fashion magazine.
8. If you had to pick one outfit to wear the rest of your life, what would it look like?
-That’s a tough one… I have such wanderlust to move so I guess it’d depend on where we were living. If it were a colder climate, probably one of my most recent outfits: a floral Urban dress, maroon tights, belt cinched at waist, black ruffle flats, a cardigan and I’d top it off with a circle scarf and navy skirted peacoat from H&M!

9. You seem to have a great love for colored tights and cute headbands (a girl after my own heart). What are your current favorite accessories? Also, I know that some people struggle with accessorizing (me included), so how do you decide on what accessories to wear?

-I honestly rarely accessorize aside from a headband or scarf. I have ears stretched to an inch so I can find some gorgeous plugs to coordinate with (right now I’m wearing an incredible amethyst pair Mike got me for Christmas!). I tend to stay away from costume jewelry like rings, bracelets and necklaces just because I feel like my tattoos are the biggest (and best, in my opinion!) accessory that I could have! I think anything else piled on top of them might just be distracting and “too much”.

10. Do you have any advice for aspiring fashion bloggers? What about someone that is new to blogging?

-I think the past ladies have hit it spot on: devote time to it, nurture your blog like a baby, take great pictures, and most importantly: DON’T watch your followers or traffic like a pot of water waiting to boil. Followers will come when you have interesting, original content on your blog. It’s definitely quality over quantity. Obsessing over wanting followers, free things, sponsors, etc, will just hinder you. Blog because you are passionate about something! Find something that makes you unique and run with it.

Thank you so much Kaelah for doing this interview with me! Don’t forget to check out Kaelah’s lovely blog!

Breakfast date at The Coffee Shop

12.27.10
Last week Scott and I went on a morning breakfast date to The Coffee Shop in Gilbert. I know I’ve blogged about this place before, but for those that are new The Coffee Shop is a cute coffee house/breakfast & lunch eatery/cupcake store that was featured on a Food Network cupcake challenge (and they won!). They have extra yummy food, and Scott and I were excited to have breakfast there.
Blueberry and almond muffin and black coffees.

Breakfast dates truly are my favorite. Breakfast at my house is usually pretty normal, Special K cereal and coffee, so I love going out for breakfast and getting a yummy meal to start the morning.

The Coffee Shop sits on the Agritopia community, and is surrounded by beautiful land, houses, and Joe’s Farm Grill of course.

Scott had a breakfast burrito, and I had a bacon (rare for me), egg, and cheese sandwich.

We ate almost everything. We definitely had to take a long walk around Agritopia afterward!
We didn’t end up having one of The Coffee Shop’s famous cupcakes (too full), but I did snap a few pictures of them.

Do you go on breakfast dates? What do you usually order?

Dressing Light

12.26.10
Happy day after Christmas!
At this point I don’t really have a run down of Scott and I’s day, but here is an outfit post for you that I just adore.
Now that I’m back in the warm, Arizona winter weather, it is very possible for me to wear a light flannel and a sweater and be comfortable. After being the in freezing conditions for a week, it’s nice to be able to dress “light”.
Headband: MaieDae
Sweater: Rubbish
Flannel: Levi’s
Purse: Marc by Marc Jacobs
Jeggings: Levi’s
Boat shoes: Sperry’s

Last week I purchased this cute headband from MaieDae that I had been lusting over for awhile now. I was so excited when I got it because the package that it was wrapped up in was absolutely adorable, and the headband was even more cute than I expected.

(Wearing my Tiffany’s bracelet that Scott got me on our first anniversary. He’s been adding charms every year!)

Lately I’ve really been into rocking headbands. I’ve always had a love for them, but my want to wear them comes and goes. I recently purchased two cute ones off of Etsy, and I’m happy to say that they’ve ignited my love for them once again.

Now that Christmas is over I have plans to get as much as I can during break, which includes applying for scholarships, reading, going on adventures, going on breakfast dates with Scott, getting the both of us ready for school, and all around enjoy spending time together.

What are your plans now?
