A Peek Into My Home Life

10.17.10

I’ve decided to wait until tomorrow to share with you all Scott and I’s pumpkin patch adventure. Instead, I wanted to give you a little peek into my home life.

This is Jake, he is my 13-year-old Pembroke Welsch Corgi. Jake means the world to me, and has been a major part of my life growing up. When he was younger he used to love to play with rubber bands (he literally would fling them from his nail and tooth (Scouts honor)), and chase after me, whether we were in a parking lot, or in green grass. In his older age, he still loves to play with rubber bands, even though not as much, and is a real cuddler.
A few weeks back he got really sick and we had to take him to an animal emergency room. He was diagnosed with old man’s syndrome, which will occasionally make him react like he has an ear infection, therefore being dizzy and not able to keep his lunch down, and has since got much better. He is still on the mend, and we are hoping that this sickness isn’t more than we think it is. He means the world to me, and I can’t imagine my life without him.
Do you have any pets? What are they like?

Lola Coffee in the Afternoon

10.16.10

I know I’ve blogged about my favorite coffee shop Lola Coffee numerous times, but yesterday I joined my friend Erica for an afternoon coffee date and wanted to share a few photos that I snapped before Erica arrived.

I had an iced americano, and a zucchini muffin (which was amazingly good).
Erica and I chatted about school, internships, fashion, and blogs (some of my favorite things). Later on we were joined by Scott after he got out of school, and continued to talk more about school, and also art.
What’s your favorite coffee shop like?

My Girl Thursday

10.15.10
A few weeks back I was going through a rough time- stressed out, sick, overwhelmingly busy. Well, I don’t really like to sending out negative energy into the blogosphere, and twitter world, but at some point I remembered I just caved and said on Twitter how crappy I had been feeling. Lucky for me, I was greeting with the kindest thoughts from some of my Twitter friends, and also a really sweet tweet from Chantilly of My Girl Thursday saying that she wanted my address because she was going to send something my way.
I was overwhelmed with her kindness, and couldn’t wait to see what she had up her sleeve. Well, two days ago I received a fairly large package from Canada. What I found inside was one of Chantilly’s beautiful chalkboard totes that I’ve been eyeing for quite some time now.
The tote is seriously perfect, and fits everything I could ever need. It’s also made out of the most beautiful vintage fabric (inside and out). I didn’t have any chalk handy, but will be finding some soon so I can draw something pretty on the chalkboard fabric.

Yesterday I wore:

Cardigan: Target
Shirt: Unknown
Chalkboard tote: My Girl Thursday
Jeggings: Levi’s
Boat Shoes: Sperry’s

Yesterday was a work day. I am currently working on three different articles for the newspaper I intern at, and I heard that one of my other articles was going to be featured on the front page today.
After work Scott and I went to see Life As We Know It with my parents. I really enjoyed the movie, and was surprised at how heartfelt it was.
Today I have a coffee date with a friend in downtown Phoenix, and from there I hope to find a pumpkin patch somewhere and pick up a pumpkin or two.
What are you doing today?

By the Lake

10.13.10
Last weekend Scott and I took a walk along Tempe Town Lake. For all of you who don’t live in the Phoenix Metropolitan area, Tempe Town Lake is a manmade lake is held together by a dam. Back in July a part of the dam broke, and thus the lake went bye, bye.
On the very same day that we went for our walk, the city of Tempe started re-filling the lake (they recently fixed the part of the dam that broke). It was kind of neat seeing the water being pushed back into the lake, and to slowly start to see it come back to life.
While there Scott also shot a few outfit photos for me (he’s such a great guy).
Sunglasses: Ray Bans
Shirt: Levi’s
Jeggings: Levi’s
Sandals: Salt Water Sandals
Socks: c/o We Love Colors
Not that long ago I received this lovely pair of maroon socks from We Love Colors, and instantly began planning on how to wear them. Well, since it is still pretty warm in Phoenix, and I didn’t want to wear them with shorts, I decided to do a fashion faux pa and wear them with my Salt Water Sandals. I actually really liked the way that they looked, and definitely want to wear them with a cute skirt and oxfords next time around.

During our walk Scott and I also spotted a fun viewfinder that we had never seen before, right by the old train tracks, and the new light rail tracks.

Do you have a lake, or a man-made lake in your town? Do you ever take a boat out on it, or go swimming in it (I would NEVER swim in Tempe Town Lake; it’s so dirty!)?

Frances Boutique /// TOMS Giveaway Winner

10.12.10
A few weeks back I entered a contest on the Frances tumblr page. In honor of TOMS shoes giving away their one millionth pair of shoes, Frances decided to give away one pair of TOMS shoes to a lucky reader. In order to enter, all you had to do was email Frances and tell them one good thing that you would do for the city of Phoenix (big or small).
After seeing this I immediately emailed Frances and told them about my ASU blog, Downtown Dispatch, as well as Tea Talk, and how I am trying weekly to promote Phoenix and get my readers to go out and try new places in the area.
Lucky for me, Frances liked my answer best and picked me as the winner. In the spirit of giving, I decided that I wanted to give Scott the new pair of TOMS (his current were on their last run!).
Recently, Frances kindly featured Scott and I on their blog, and if you are looking at this as a suggestion from their page, hello and thank you so much for stopping by!

Last week Scott and I went to Frances to pick out his new TOMS. He ended up really liking a pair of grey Cordones, so he paid the difference and we went on our extremely happy way.

Really quickly I just want to say thanks again to Frances for such a great opportunity, and for always supporting Phoenix like they do!
If you’re ever in central Phoenix, I highly suggest stopping by Frances and checking out all of their really cute clothing, accessories, and home goods. Don’t forget to stop at Smeeks right down the way (their other store) for some good old fashion candy!

Phoenix Fashion Week

10.11.10
Phoenix Fashion Week was this weekend, and as mentioned before I was graciously invited as a part of the media. I was given a pass with access to all the shows, and unfortunately was only able to make it to Saturday’s events.
My day started off early with a seminar about make-up, styling, social media, and also a panel of local professional fashion designers, as well as a PR agent, and a creative director of a clothing company.

After spending about two hours at the W Hotel listening in on the seminar, I decided to head home for a bit to get some midterm studying done. Before I left however, I couldn’t help but snap a few photos on the pink carpet.

Around 6:30 that evening Scott and I came back down to the W Hotel, and took part in the nights festivities. We had a few photos snapped with the models in front of the hotel (kind of silly, but oh well), checked out the boutique area inside where they had various pieces of clothing and accessories for sale, and also chatted with Carrie of Cracking Good.
I also really wanted to get an outfit photo that night, but with crummy lighting inside the hotel I didn’t end up getting the quality photo I wanted, but I still think you can get the idea.
Cardigan: Gift from my mom
Dress: Nordstroms Rack
Tights: Solid tights in charcoal c/o We Love Colors
Flats: Ruby & Bloom
Media pass!
After getting through the mob of people that were surrounding the stage, Scott and I found ourself two seats that no one seemed to be assigned to, sat down, and waited for the show to start.
I know it’s hard to tell, but my guy wore suspenders. He looked so good in them!
The first collection we saw was by a local designer label called Stop Staring. Every piece with this collection had an amazing vintage feel, and the fit and quality of the garments seemed to be top-notch. Earlier in the day I listened to the designer/CEO of the label speak about her collection, as well as her celebrity cliental (Anna Paquin, Ashley Greene, etc.). I really enjoyed this show, and would honestly love to own a Stop Staring dress one day.
The rest of the night included 5 other shows, with a ten minute intermission in-between the first three, and the last three. The other collections shown were all well thought out, and contained some great pieces. I especially enjoyed the mens collections with their structured jackets, and shirts.
Since we were sitting closer to the back, we relied on the main screens to see the garments easier. I found this very convenient, and a real life saver for someone all the way in the back.

My only complaint about the night was that the Phoenix Fashion Week was held in Scottsdale, Arizona, not Phoenix, Arizona. I know that PHXFW is trying very hard to be well established, and a popular fashion week, but to me Phoenix fashion is different than this, and I felt that having the shows in somewhere like the Bentley Projects in Phoenix would have been a better fit.
Overall, attending Phoenix Fashion Week was a great experience and I’m certainly glad that I was able to attend. I am already interested in attending next year, and I’m excited to see what it will hold.
Have you ever attended a fashion show? What is your favorite part about them? Does your town have a fashion week?

Classic Energy /// Outfit Post

10.09.10
For awhile now I’ve been itching for an all black ensemble. To me, black is very classic, and chic, and I honestly feel beautiful in it.
The other day I received the most lovely package from We Love Colors and inside, among a few other items, was an amazing pair of sage solid color tights. After seeing them I knew that they would be the perfect accessory to my soon-to-be all black moment.
Cardigan: Gift from my mom
Dress: Target
Boots: BP by Nordstroms
Down the street from my school is an amazing art gallery called the Monorchid, and Scott suggested that day that it would be the perfect place to take the days outfit photos (as my ensemble matched the outside decor of the building so well).
A bird for Chelseabird! The birds on the front side of the building are one of my absolute favorite art pieces in Phoenix.
On the side of the Monorchid is a giant M (one that I’m pretty sure the band The Maine, a local and very popular band, took their logo from), and I just couldn’t help but take a few photos with it.

I feel like I really can’t say enough about the amazing tights I was wearing. We Love Colors sells durable tights, among other great accessories, in 51 various colors. These tights are very thick, and I just know that they will help me get through the chilly AZ winter with ease.

Have you every checked out We Love Color’s tights? What do you think about them?

Lunch at Matt’s Big Breakfast

10.07.10

Yesterday afternoon Scott came down to my school in downtown (he always does this for me; I have such a great guy) and we had lunch together at Matt’s Big Breakfast.

For those of you non-local readers, or just haven’t heard about it, Matt’s Big Breakfast is an amazing breakfast and lunch diner in downtown Phoenix. Matt’s serves some of the best food in town, and usually the placed is always packed (the diner probably holds 30 people at max.).

Last time Scott and I went to Matt’s we were super lucky and just walked right in and sat down at a table, no 45 minute wait or anything. Well, fortunately this time we were very lucky again and got a table right away.

While waiting for our meals Scott and I shared a cup of coffee, and talked about what we had going on at school. Scott and I each do very different things at school, he’s studying art, I’m studying journalism, but someway we always seem find ways that they relate.

Matt’s definitely has a 1950’s theme going on with their decor, and I always find it so charming every time we go in there.

For lunch Scott got a pesto chicken sandwich (his favorite thing to eat is pesto), and I got the egg salad sandwich. Both meals also came with a large portion of kettle chips (neither of us could finish them all).

I find that going on lunch dates like this always helps my long school days go by quicker, and also be more enjoyable. I truly love getting away, even just for a few minutes or an hour, and getting a bite to eat with my love.

Do you go on lunch dates often? What’s your favorite place to go?

Phoenix Fashion Week

10.07.10

Recently I was invited as a blogger to the Phoenix Fashion Week. This something that I desperately wanted to attend, and with a little help from my friends (it’s true!) I was able to get in contact with the right person and landed myself a media pass to all of the events going on during the fashion week(end).

This year there are so many great events, and seminars to attend that I haven’t even been able to decide on which ones that I want to go to (in reality I would love to attend them all, but don’t think I can capably do that).

I am very excited, and honored to be attending and hope if any of you see me at the shows, that you come up and say hello.

Also, if you have any tips on what I should wear, what I should look out for, which events to attend, or anything else, I would greatly appreciate your insight!
