Floral in the City

10.06.10
On Monday Scott came down to my school in Phoenix, and after grabbing a quick lunch at Subway we snapped a few photos of my outfit in the park across the street.

Cardigan: Halogen
Shirt: Target
Skirt: Nordstroms
Booties: Jeffrey Campbell
I really loved the colors of this outfit, and also the fact that I was able to wear the cardigan without sweating to death. That afternoon a storm had rolled into downtown Phoenix, and there was a slight chill in the air.

The park was designed as a place for students to go to on cool days (who would really want to sit in that direct sunlight in 105 degree weather). It has bits of modern architecture in it, as well as a historical building that holds an art gallery. There is also a below ground coffee shop that serves the best vegan brownies I’ve ever had.

I really feel like this city is truly my home, and I’m thrilled to be able to come here every day. I am so thankful that ASU decided to move the journalism school downtown. We not only got a brand new building, complete with state of the art Mac computers and other great features, but also a chance to live and work in a new, and exciting scenery.

The Jeffrey Campbell shoes are a recent purchase, found at Last Chance for a mere $30, compared to their regular $170 price tag. I was super excited to find them, and can’t wait to wear them this fall/winter.

I also want to give a big thanks today to my boyfriend Scott who is always so great about taking pictures for me, and is always thinking of new locations to take them in. He is a huge encouragement in my life, and I’m so thankful for him.

An Evening at Hanny’s

10.05.10
Two Saturdays ago Scott and I went out for my friend Erica’s 21st birthday at Hanny’s in downtown Phoenix. Neither Scott, nor I have ever been to Hanny’s but from what we had heard it seemed like a pretty hip place.
After parking in my garage for ASU (that parking spot seriously come in handy so much), we walked the few short blocks to Hanny’s to be greeted by Erica in a pretty blue party dress.
We sat a a long table in the dining area with Erica, a few of her work-mates, and fellow SPM’ers, and ate salad and pizza (Scott and I shared), and admired the strange “tongue couch” that were were sat next to.
Hanny’s is famous for having super unique bathrooms, so of course I had to climb the stairs to the second floor, walk passed the second bar, and through the mirrored wall room, only to end up a in another large room with six or so doors on each side. At this point I was not sure which one to go in, as the only door that was marked was the mens room, but after a lady came up and opened one of the other six doors, I knew it was ok to just walk into one.

Hanny’s is also famous for their elevator shaft. From the first floor you can walk into the shaft, and walk onto it’s see through floor. For myself it was kind of terrifying being able to see all the way down to the bottom of the building, and all the way up for that matter. I literally felt like I was going to fall through the floor. It’s safe to say that I didn’t however, and can report that it’s all just a fun party trick.

The gang:

Scott, Erica, myself, Jessica, and Colin.

Scott and I will definitely be going to Hanny’s again in the future.

As promised, tonight I will announce the winner of the Sweet Pea by Kaelah Bee giveaway. Without further-ado the winner is:

Congrats Emily! Please email me a quick hello so I can get you in contact with Kaelah!
On a side note, the weather tonight was absolutely perfect. It was in the low 80’s with a cool breeze. Scott and I headed down to own our local outdoor shopping center, and took a stroll around (while drinking hot coffee of course).
What did you do tonight? What is the weather like where you live?

Lunch Date Part II

10.04.10

While on our lunch date at LGO, Scott and I took a few outfit photos. I really loved what I was wearing, and felt it was the perfect attire for such a warm fall day.

Shirt: Gap
Skirt: Banana Republic
Purse: Marc by Marc Jacobs
Shoes: Oxfords by Steve Madden
This skirt is my absolute favorite right now. I love the detail around the waste, and also how high it sits. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this called a paper bag waste?
You can’t really see it too well, but I’m also wearing a tiny silver owl necklace that was a gift from my grandmother.
So far Scott and I are having a lot of fun taking outfit photos, and thinking of new places to take them. I’m very excited to continue with this project, and can’t wait to see where it takes me.
Today I have class all day, and also get to have lunch with Scott in downtown.

Lunch date at LGO

10.02.10
Yesterday afternoon Scott and I went on a lunch date to one of favorite local spots, La Grande Orange. LGO is a sandwich/salad/soup shop, that just happens to also be a grocer, miniature boutique, bakery, coffee shop, and full-menu restaurant. LGO is located in the cutest neighborhood in Arcadia, and is always busy. Scott and I even had to vale our car because we couldn’t find a parking spot (free during lunch!).
It’s been a few months since our last trip to LGO, so Scott and I decided to go all out. We each got a serving of green chili mac and cheese, and then Scott got a tuna salad sandwich, and I got a bowl of butternut squash soup.
The seating at LGO is generally terrible, as they aren’t many tables inside, and right now it’s too hot to sit outside, but fortunately we got really lucky and got a table right next to the window.

Neither Scott, nor I could finish our lunches (the mac and cheese was almost too good to stop eating, even when we were full), but we both really liked what we each had (I don’t eat fish, but I decided to try a bite of Scott’s tuna fish on top of a piece of apple that was in the sandwich, it just wasn’t for me).

It was really nice to get out to this side of town on our Friday Funday (we always try do fun things on Fridays because that is our only full day off, well for me at least, Scott has one class on Fridays), and hope to go back soon.
Have you been out for lunch lately? What’s your favorite place to go for lunch? What do you usually get?

Tuscan Influence

10.01.10
Yesterday after I got done at my internship (I work a 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. shift on Tuesday and Thursdays), Scott and I went down to one of our favorite little apartment complexes to take a few photos. The apartments have a tuscan feel to them, and from the outside all of them together look like a little Tuscan villa.
Cardigan: Target
Shirt: Gift from my mom
Khaki pants: Banana Republic
Twig necklace: Dolly and Boy Jewelry
Sunglasses: Ray Bans
Oxfords: Steve Madden
I really like this outfit. I found it comfy enough to wear while sitting at my desk all day, but also found it classy with help from my brown oxfords. I also really adore this mustard yellow cardigan, and think it shows my yearn for the fall weather.
If Scott and I were planning on staying in Ahwatukee, I would insist that we live in these apartments. They have such a cozy, and safe feel to them. I just absolutely adore them.

The shirt that I was wearing also has the prettiest little flower design on it. I feel like it’s a great way to spice up a plain white shirt (an absolute staple in my closet).

Scott and I also went to one of our local malls last night to check out the shoe sale that is going on at Dilliards. Unfortunately, I think we got there too late in the week to get any of the really good deals, and didn’t end up walking away with anything. However, Scott did pick up a jacket, and a coat at Banana Republic. Both items were on sale, and we figure that it will cool down here enough by the end of the month so he wont have to wait very long to wear them.
What did you do yesterday?

Downown Dispatch Round-Up

09.30.10
Over the last few weeks I’ve written about some great restaurants, vintage stores, and coffee shops on my other blog, Downtown Dispatch. For those of you who are new to Tea Talk, or haven’t heard, I also blog for State Press/ State Press Magazine at Arizona State University. My blog focuses on all things having to do with downtown Phoenix, and I am constantly encouraging students, and others that read my blog to go out, spend some time in downtown Phoenix, and try something new.
I’ve included some links to my most recent blogs so that you can check out each article. If you live in the Phoenix Metropolitan area, I also encourage you to get out there and try/check out all of these wonderful places.

Verde– a quick-eats restaurant in downtown that serves yummy Mexican food.

MacAlpines Soda Fountain Shop– This place has literally everything- old school soda fountain, coffee, treats, and vintage goods.

Zinnias and Hollywood Regency– These two antique shops are the perfect place to find your next chic home decor piece, vintage camera, or Mad Men inspired dress.

Hanny’s– A chic restaurant and bar located in the heart of downtown Phoenix that has a nifty walk-in elevator shaft, and super swanky bathrooms.

I blog under Downtown Dispatch once a week on Thursdays, so don’t forget to check out my new blog post each week!

Four years ago today I met the love of my life at a show (his show) at a coffee shop in Ahwatukee, Arizona. Four years later we are very much in love, and share a wonderful life together.

Here is the flyer for the show that I attended, and Scott played in the night we met.
Over the last four years we have changed, and grown so much as a couple. I am thankful for John Scott every day, and can’t imagine not having in my life.
I love you John Scott; here is to another 80 or more wonderful years together.

Fall Envy

09.29.10
As you all may read previously via twitter or my blog, I am now going to be posting outfit photos on my blog. Fashion is a passion of mine, and I really do enjoy dressing up. With Fall upon us I feel that it’s my wardrobes time to shine, as it’s mostly made up of cardigans, and layering options. Anyways, without furtherado here is my first outfit post “Fall Envy”:
Knit jacket: Old Navy via 2008
Knecklace: Vintage heart charm with the letter J (for John Scott) on it
Textured shirt: Element (I found it at some random store while out on my travels this summer)
Jeans: Levi’s Jeggings
Shoes: Ruby & Bloom
I’ve had this knit jacket for some time now, but I really love the peter pan collar it has, and also the double breasted buttons.

I wore this outfit to my internship yesterday. When I go to work I like to look a little more business casual, and I think the knit jacket helped with that. I do have to tell you that it was in the low 100’s yesterday, and because I really want Fall to come now in Phoenix I decided to wear knit in protest.

After work yesterday Scott and I ate dinner at went to see Wall Street- Money Never Sleeps with my parents. The movie was very good, and it was nice to just relax at the movies after a long day.
Look for more outfit posts in the near future!

Fall Wants 2010

09.28.10

I’ve been meaning to post a Fall wants blog for awhile now. Fall is my absolute favorite season, and I look forward to it every year. To me, Fall offers everything wonderful: cooler weather, layered clothing, pumpkin patches, hot apple cider, and the chance to see the leaves change colors (if you’re lucky and can spot the very few trees in Phoenix that do change colors). The Fall season is is also when Scott and I met and fell in love, so it’s a very special time for us.

Anyways, without further ado, my current Fall wants/must-haves are:

1. Lace-up leather boots:

2. Cozy boyfriend cardigans and chunky knits:
