FOR THE HOME — 06 // FAVORITE SHOPS TO BUY LIGHTING FROM

09.05.17

When we purchased our home last year, one of the many pieces of the puzzle that we didn’t have input on was the style, color, etc. of the lights that would soon be screwed into the ceilings of almost every room. Looking back, walking into our home for the first time was a bit of a surprise — what would the cabinets look like? what would the closets be like? what kind of lights would we find? All in all — most things were fine or fixable, haha! The lights we found were basic white globes and nothing fancy — perfect to start our home with, but something that I always had in the back of my mind that I knew I wanted to change. A little over a year later, the day finally came when we started to change the lights for something a little more us — these West Elm beauties that you see hanging in our kitchen! The lights in our hallway, office and bathroom will come later, but for now — I am SO happy with this trio we have going on! They’re the perfect mix of light and bright mixed with warmth and coziness that our home needed. With all that said, I know that the lighting in your home can be very personal choice, but if you’re like me — you find it fun just to see what’s new or dream about what you’ll have in your own home one day!

In case you’re on the hunt for new lighting for your home, or just feel like browsing through some pretty fixtures, here’s a few of my favorite shops to browse + buy lights from —

I would love to hear if you have any lighting favorites! This pretty little desk lamp from Schoolhouse is next up on my wish list, but I also have my eye on this beautiful piece for our office from Lucent Lightshop! Anyways, I hope ya’ll are having a great short week and I’ll be back soon!

ONTO THE WEEKEND — 12

09.05.17

Hello, September! A new month is here and the official start of fall is just days away — and if I’m being honest ya’ll, I am SO stoked! Aside from this, the long weekend is almost over (I swear I started this post early in the weekend, whoops!) and Scott and I are spending a little time relaxing after a few days with family and friends up north. Before we head into a new work week, though, I wanted to share a few posts + pieces that caught my eye these past few days —

Oui Fresh just released their new lipsticks and I’m having such a hard time deciding on a color! Which one is your favorite?

— The Junk In Trunk Vintage Market is just a few weeks away! Will Scott and I be seeing you there? xo

— Reading Elsie and Jeremy’s match story had me in tears! Have you heard the good news yet?

— The days are starting to get shorter around here and I’m itching for any piece of fall that I can get! I just purchased this sweater from Sezane, and also put this beauty on my wishlist!

— If you’re on the hunt for a great vintage rug, this shop has such beautiful pieces! You may just see one of their gems in our home soon. 😉

— I LOVE abandoned buildings, so I really enjoyed this article that kept popping up on my Facebook feed over the weekend!

And in case you missed it on CB this past week:

— I’ve got fall fashion on my mind and this look with Zappos and Marc Fisher LTD is sure to be a favorite this year.

— With traveling and catching up on work, we didn’t do much work around our house this past month (but already have a few plans for September). Here’s what our place looked like throughout the month of August!

AROUND OUR HOME — 13

08.30.17

Happy Wednesday! The end of August is nearly here and this month seem to go by in a snap! We started off the beginning of August in England where we spent five days exploring the sights and sounds of London — from the Tower of London to the ever hip Sketch, we truly began this month off in a magical place. From here, we spent six beautiful days in Paris where we drank double espressos every day, watched the Eiffel Tower twinkle, wandered through Monet’s garden and saw the Mona Lisa in the flesh — err, well – through like three panes of glass, but still — she was right there! August was so, so good to us and the days we spent in London and Paris will stay with me forever and ever.

Ready for a few peeks into our home during the month of August? Without further ado –

— Mid-August held some of the sleepiest days around here! Jet lag did not treat me well, sadly, so I spent a handful of days laying around, trying my best to stay awake and ultimately falling asleep way too early, haha. I think this cutie surely missed us, along with the other two parts of our trio!

— Today (and every day’s) motto! A simple reminder in our home to always work hard and be nice to people. I know I feature this corner often, but truth be told — it’s just my favorite. The Anthony Burrill print is a sweet reminder of our anniversary trip to Portland, and the oversized golden frame from Framebridge adds such character to the space. I am feeling the itch, though, for a new piece of art — so if you have any suggestions, I’m all ears!

— This West Elm planter + palm plant are the newest additions in our home! I’ll be the first to admit that this plant is a big guy, but I kind of love the brightness he brings to the space! Plus, this corner is a bit of a challenge (the room is an odd size), and I love that he can just stand on his own and make the space feel complete.

How was your August? It went by crazy fast around here! We started the month in London, traveled to Paris and then back home once again! I feel like the second half of August was spent just trying to play catch from the days we were gone and getting back into the swing of daily life. However, we’re ending the month on a great note and feeling excited for the season ahead!

I hope ya’ll are having an amazing week! September is just days away and I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t excited for the start of fall — pumpkins, spooky movies and PSLs all around. I know it’s cliche to be this excited, but if you’ve been following me throughout the years — then you know that I mean business when it comes to fall vibes, haha!

FIVE INSTAGRAM ACCOUNTS TO FOLLOW AND BE INSPIRED BY

08.28.17

Back in the good old days of Instagram, our feeds were linear and our friends were always near. Today, well — things are a bit different thanks to that darn algorithm that we’re all trying to figure out how to beat, or at least get along with. So in the spirit of community, I wanted to share five Instagram accounts that I always find myself feeling inspired by!

HouseholdMagNY

“Honest glimpses into our nomadic life intended to spark solidarity & inspiration no matter where you’ve landed in yours.” Hailey is a Phoenix native turned New Yorker who is currently living a nomadic lifestyle with her husband and young son. She shares her daily musings on life, motherhood, travel and so much more on her Instagram and blog. I admire Hailey’s honest look into her daily life and love seeing their travel photos from their monthly destinations (they’re currently in Montreal, Quebec). Oh, and if you’re into podcasts — Hailey was recently on Munchin’ With Moguls! Would definitely suggest giving her episode a listen to!

SteffysPandCs

Steffy and I go way back together to the the early years of style blogging! She’s one of the most kind and friendly gals in the blogosphere who not only has such a rad style, but also a super positive perspective on life. Today, she is sweetest mum to her darling baby boy, Hudson, and shares her laid-back style, along with peeks into her home, travel, family and daily life on her Instagram and blog! Oh, and Steffy loves a good shade of orange, a common theme in her photos + style and home decor — something that I can totally relate to, especially with the fall season quickly approaching! 😉

Dawn_Photo

“For The Adventurous At Heart.” Dawn is an Oregon based photographer and dear friend who has a passion for travel, epic scenery and photographing the love of the most darling couples. Scott and I first met Dawn while we were in Oregon for our 3rd wedding anniversary earlier this year. She took the sweetest photos of us in an icy field and braved snowy roads to get us to the perfect spot. I love, love following along on all of Dawn’s adventures via her Instagram, and if you’re ever in need of an engagement, wedding, elopement, anniversary, etc. photographer — she’s your gal!

ATasteOfKoko

Koko, aka Jane, is one of the friendliest gals you’ll ever meet! Jane and I first met while on a press trip to Colorado together last summer and instantly bonded over good food, beautiful scenery and wanting to get the perfect shot! Jane is a true foodie at heart and has recommendations for just about any type of food or restaurant you’re looking for — especially in Austin! She’s actually the Restaurant Expert for Visit Austin and shares her daily meals, recipes, peeks into her home and more on her Instagram and blog

BethanyMenzel

“Take hold of that which is truly life.” Bethany’s laid-back style, darling kids and beautiful home make her an instant follow, but truth be told — she has a beautiful heart and an amazing story that I love getting a peek into each day. She and her family are also gearing up for their next big adventure — moving to Mexico from Canada to partake in Mission work, which Bethany recently share more about on her blog

I hope you guys enjoyed this post! This is by no means my complete list, which I swear is pages and pages long. I truly love the Instagram community and all of the amazing ladies I’ve been able to connect with through the photo-based app, even if I don’t agree with how their timeline is set up. If you have any rad gals, guys or companies that I should be following — please let me know! Happy Monday, friends!

#STEPINTOFALL WITH ZAPPOS + MARC FISHER LTD

08.22.17

Sponsored by Zappos

With the end of the summer season on the horizon, the thoughts of cool, crisp autumn days have me craving an update in my wardrobe — transitioning out those summer pieces and pulling in those fall favorites that will be seeing me through a much chillier season. With these fall days in mind, I’m thrilled to be partnering with Zappos and Marc Fisher LTD to share the newest boots in my collection that will easily being seeing me into this new season and from day to night!

Marc Fisher LTD is one of those brands that I’ve always seen as being timeless, filled with pieces that are minimal and clean, and can easily see me from one season to the next. The Yatina booties are a style that I’ve had on my mind for a few seasons now, especially after a beloved pair of gold-toed booties from college bit the dust a few years back. I love that they make any outfit feel effortlessly chic, and are super comfortable for those long autumn days — those of which I see myself spending all day on my feet at our local pumpkin patch, apple orchard and a haunted Phoenix tour! Ya’ll, I am SO excited for fall!

While booties, sweaters and cozy scarfs are on my mind for fall, I also know that I’ll be in need of a few other styles of footwear to complete my wardrobe — heel and mules specifically! With a few dressier events in the coming months, I definitely have a need for more casual luxe pieces that will see me through the the season. The Shiloh and Zala styles from the latest Marc Fisher LTD line are officially on my wish list, but the Yatinas in black leather may also be coming home with me soon, haha!

Ok, friends — who has started shopping for their autumn wardrobe? I’ve picked up a few things here and there, but am trying to wait to make any more purchases until the weather cooperates a bit more here in Phoenix. A black, leather pair of booties is definitely on my list, along with a few cozy pullover sweaters and cardigans! What about you? I was digging through my closet today and realized that my collection of rust tones is also at a minimum, so I’ll probably add a few pieces in that hue as well!

I hope everyone’s week is off to a great start! I’m feeling those post eclipse vibes and getting way too excited for fall (I may have purchased my first bag of candy corn this week, ECK!). Scott and I are heading to a fun get together tonight and you can bet that I’ll be rocking my Yatina booties with a flowy dress for good measure (and to maybe beat the heat, haha!). I hope ya’ll have a rad one and I’ll be back soon, friends!

HOW TO STYLE A STRAW HAT AND BAG

08.22.17

Happy Monday, friends! I hope your weekend was grand! I thought it would be fun to kick off the week with an outfit that I absolutely adore (and feel so good in), along with a few tips on how to style a straw hat and bag. With summer on its way out the door, I thought it would be good to finally share these thoughts that I’ve had in mind the past few months — although, I foresee the straw trend hanging on a little longer through the fall — especially with all things rattan being so in right now!

My favorite way to style a straw hat is with either a light colored top + dark bottoms, or a chambray dress — both do the job of offsetting the light color + texture of the hat, but also compliment it to create the perfect combo of light and dark. Straw hats are also super versatile and can be worn many ways depending on your adventure — they’re perfect at the beach (with a swimsuit + cozy towel), great for going on hikes (especially if you purchase a tie that can be clipped into the hat so it won’t blow away) and even for just a day around town where you want to make sure the sun is staying off your face while you’re going in and out of the shops.

While straw hats may also seem seasonal, they’ve come to be a staple piece in my wardrobe that I find myself grabbing for more often than not. And if you’re curious, the hat I’m wearing is from Gigi Pip who sells the most darling hats (straw, wool, felt, etc.), but I’m also a big fan of this Cuyana straw hat and the Madewell ones that they bring out seasonally.

When it comes to straw bags, these rattan cuties have had a huge moment this spring + summer! I purchased this one a few months back from a seller on Etsy (this one if you’re curious), but Free People and 31 Bits having also been adding these styles to their recent collections. I’ll be honest when I sat that I’m usually not one for trendy bags, but this spring/summer I’ve truly loved two very on-trend bags and have no regrets in my purchases.

Aside from all this, I like to style my straw bags similar to how I style my straw hats — with light + dark tops and denim, with flowy dresses and also with dark tops + light bottoms. Basically, I believe rattan bags can be styled with just about anything and I see mine making its way into my fall wardrobe with ease! What about you? Are ready to set the straw aside for the next few months, or bring them with you into the cooler days of fall and winter?

What’s everyone’s week looking like? Things are shaping up to be pretty low-key around here, which is perfect because the fall market season is almost upon us and I know that our days are just going to be so busy from there! Scott and I have some awesome markets lined up for the upcoming season, and I hope that if you’re local (or just visiting) that you can stop by our booth and say hi! We honestly both feel SO lucky that we get to work on a business that we love so much together and we truly couldn’t do it without all of your support, friends!

Madewell Side-Tie Sweater Tank (on sale!)                                                                                          Madewell High-Rise Jeans                                                                                                                Ellen and James Bag                                                                                                                          Vince Camuto Mules

Here’s to an amazing week! And don’t forget to share your thoughts on straw hats + bags with me, and if you have different styling tips of your own — I’m all ears!

ONTO THE WEEKEND — 11

08.20.17

Happy Saturday, friends! I hope your weekend is going well! Scott and I are gearing up for a fun evening out, but before I go I wanted to share a few posts + pieces that caught my eye this week —

— One of my all-time favorite bands, Brand New, just announced their newest album and I am STOKED! And while we’re on the subject of BN, let’s just say that I don’t agree with everything this music journalist wrote, but I did find their article on the album + band intriguing!

— My sweet friend, Tiek, shared this darling outfit today! Like her, I may have already pulled out my first pair of boots for the season — I just couldn’t wait any longer!

— Did you hear that the A Color Story presets are now available for desktop? WOOHOO!

Scott and I got to be a part of a fun photoshoot for our friends over at Keep It Wild! You just may spot a familiar face on their Instagram story from today! 😉

— Madewell’s pre-fall line is getting me SO excited for fall! These booties are officially on my wish list!

— If we’re friends on Pinterest, you may have seen a few autumn-inspired pins making their way into my page recently! AH – I honestly can’t help it! With Paris’ chilly weather, rainy days and changing leaves that we got to experience while we were there, I feel like I’m already in an autumn state of mind. Raise your hand if you feel me! xo

And in case you missed it on CB this week:

— Our home is on the West Elm blog! Woohoo!

— Scott and I are stoked to announce that we’ll be at next month’s Junk In The Trunk Vintage Market in Scottsdale, Arizona!

— My Grand Canyon tee from Keep It Wild has been a favorite lately!

Don’t forget to follow along on Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest too, friends! Hope ya’ll have an amazing rest of the weekend!

GRAND CANYON STATE OF MIND

08.18.17

Hello, friends! It feels so good to be back in this space sharing a daily outfit — it feels like ages since the last one I shared! I’ve actually wavered a little bit over the past year on how much style content I wanted to keep sharing, which seems odd considering how long I’ve been posting my daily wears (eight to be exact – WOW!), but truth be told — I still love sharing my everyday style with you guys and sure hope you still love these posts too! I feel like my style has changed so much over the years, but also not at all (if that makes sense). I guess that’s just growing up, right? Let me know if you feel the same! xo

Speaking of fashion, Scott and I’s rad friends over at Keep It Wild released their National Parks Collection this summer and this Grand Canyon print is among my favorites. If you’ve never been, I would definitely suggest checking out the GC on your next road trip through the West Coast. It’s officially one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, and I’m here to tell you that everything they say about it is true — it’s an incredibly beautiful place! And in case you have another favorite National Park you want to rep, like Joshua Tree or Arches, Keep It Wild has you covered!

The weekend is almost here and Scott and I don’t have much on our schedule, just a fun photoshoot with friends early Saturday and plans to clean up our home + work on our market schedule for the coming autumn and winter! I am, however, definitely in need of a trip to the nail salon! Before we left for the UK and Europe I had powder nails done and and now I need to get them taken off. I’m not really the kind of gal who gets her nails done often (I like to do them myself), but I was really wanting something that would last well during our two week trip — and let me tell you, these powder nails have really held up! They’re still basically perfect after 3+ weeks of wear — they’re just really grown out at this point and I’m too nervous to try and take them off myself (I hear they have to grind them off – eck). Anyways, they will be coming off sometime during this weekend! Have you tried powder nails before? I hear they’re supposed to be healthier for your nails then gel, and a big bonus is that no UV light is required!

RayBan Sunglasses                                                                                                                   Madewell Bandana
Keep It Wild – Grand Canyon National Park Tee                                                                       Madewell High-Rise Jeans                                                                                                              Coach Saddle Bag                                                                                                                          Madewell Boardwalk Sandals

Thanks for reading, friends! I hope ya’ll are having a wonderful evening and I would LOVE to hear from you — thoughts on powder nails? Favorite National Park? Thoughts on style posts?
