A little vintage find.

05.21.10
Last weekend Scott and I did a little thrifting at a few local shops. At first we weren’t having much luck, but we ended up finding a mystery suitcase that was locked and just could not be opened unless the suitcase was to be broken with a screwdriver.
Even though we couldn’t see exactly what was inside the suitcase we had a pretty good idea that it was some type of typewriter, as we could barely peek in and slightly see a set of keys, and I googled the name on the case and saw that it was a typewriter company.
After purchasing the mystery suitcase and bringing it home Scott attempted to break the lock mechanism so that we could see what was inside. After about fifteen minutes, Scott broke the suitcase opened and we found this sitting inside of it:
A 1970’s Smith-Corona typewriter in pretty much mint condition.
The minute Scott got it opened. See that big smile!
Scott and I have a good feeling that this typewriter was purchased, used only a handful of times, then locked and was never opened again until that night.
The typewriter still had all of its original papers, and showed us that it was purchased in September of 1972.

We literally only payed $10 for this beauty, and I feel that is one of our best vintage finds!

What’s your best/favorite vintage find?

Summer Reading List V1.0

05.20.10

This summer I have vowed to read every day.

Now, I know this seems like a bit of a big commitment, but I know I can do it. During the summer months I have a lot of down time, and this summer I have vowed to do something productive with it.
Right now I have a handful of books on my shelves that I have bought because they were either a really good deal (can’t beat $4.99 books at Urban Outfitters), or I just saw sitting on the racks at B&N, or Changing Hands and knew I had to have for my collection (oh yes, I collect books). Either way, I have quite a few book sitting around that I for sure need to read this summer.
Right now my list consists of:
Her Fearful Symmetry- Audrey Niffenegger
Franny and Zooey- J. D. Salinger
Extremely Loud, and Incredibly Close- Jonathan Safran Foer
Slaugtherhouse Five- Kurt Vonnegut
The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath
The Last Summer (of You and Me)- Ann Brashares
So far I’ve already started on Her Fearful Symmetry, and already adore it. I just love the way Niffenegger writes, so morbid, but yet so full of love at the same time.
Do you have a summer reading list? If so, what’s on? Do you have any suggestions for me?

The Artist in the Office book review

05.17.10
The other day I was in Barnes and Noble perusing the craft section and spotted this adorable book:

I immediately grabbed it, and sat down, feeling compelled to read through the whole thing.
This darling book entitled The Artist in the Office by Summer Pierre has great examples of corporate office situations, and how to turn them into an enjoyable experiences for all the artists out there that are still having to work a nine to five corporate job.
The book also includes cute prompts that challenge you to bring your artistic eye into your work atmosphere, and to also keep your creative mind going throughout the day.
The book is filled with reader friendly material, and has great graphics/sketches throughout it’s entirety.
For anyone who feels like they’re struggling to keep their creative mind going while working in a corporate job situation, I highly suggest this book as a source of inspiration.
Well, I hope you all enjoyed this little review, it’s just a small step in the new direction that I’m working on taking the Tea Talk blog in. If you know of any other cute books that you think a review is in order for I would definitely appreciate suggestions.
Hope everyone has a lovely day!

Kartchner Caverns/Tucson Part 2!

05.16.10
Ok, I’m back with part two of our trip! So after we left the caverns we went down town to Benson to visit a cousin of Scott’s, and then a little while we headed back to Tucson for an afternoon on the town.
Once we arrived in Tucson we got off on Congress and headed downtown, in much traffic to our dismay:
After a bit of driving though we parked and took a nice walk down to the Hotel Congress:
We stopped in the hotel for a few just to look inside, and look at the menu for the restaurant. After deciding that we would rather eat at Choice Greens, a suggest from the lovely Jenn Enders, we walked back to the car, got stuck in more traffic, and finally made it to Choice.
After pondering the menu for what seemed forever Scott and I both decided on sandwiches, and pasta salad:

His a barbecued chicken panini,
Avenue Coffee serves Cartel Coffee Lab’s beans and Scott and I both agree that they certainly do them justice.
While at Avenue I decided that a trip to a local favorite, Eegee’s was a must. Eeegee’s has these amazing icees that are perfect on any hot spring or summer day:
Scott got the special of the month, orange dream, and I got lemon.
After we at our fill of eegee’s we headed back to the college area for a few. I actually didn’t end up taking any pictures while we were down there, but I did spot this funny sign on the way:

lovely giveaway that We Love Colors is hosting on my blog! The winner will be chosen next Saturday!

Kartchner Caverns/Tucson Part 1!

05.15.10

Good late morning/early afternoon lovelies! I hope everyone is having a great Saturday so far. Well, if you can recall I mentioned the other day that Scott and I were going to take a trip to the Kartchner Caverns, and Tucson as well. Our trip was Thursday and it was incredibly fun! I’ve decided to break our trip into a few different posts, so that you’re not bombarded with so many silly pictures at once. Ok, on to the story-

Our morning started out very early:
I dressed in casual wear + my We Love Colors headband for the trip!
Scott made us a lovely breakfast complete with veggie cheese eggs, toast, apples slices…
Oh, and of course coffee (made with one of our vintage Pyrex Chemex type of pots:
A little before nine we got on the road and headed towards Tucson:
We packed the car really well with water, paper towels, and snacks:
A travel must for us!
We got to the caverns about an hour before our tour and had a chance to look around the gift shop (were we made smashed souvenir pennies), look at all the exhibits about the caverns, and watch a movie that explained how the caverns were discovered.
Around noon our trip began and we were forced to leave everything in the car, therefore I unfortunately do not have pictures of the beautiful insides, however I can say that it was an amazing experience to see water formations thousands, upon thousands years old.
Here are a few pictures that I found through Google images of the main room that we went into, and my favorite thing about the cave:
The throne room! That center piece is about six stories high!
Bacon, or at least a stalactite that looks like one.
Be back soon with part two of our trip!
Have a great day lovelies!
Oh, and don’t forget to enter the We Love Colors giveaway that is happening on my blog!

Keep Calm And Ride On!

05.13.10
Good evening loves! I stopped in for two specific reasons tonight, the first being that I wanted to say my daily schedule is about to get a whole lot stressful and carefree, which means more time for blogging! With these next coming up days and weeks keep your eyes peeled for new fun things happening on the Tea Talk blog. I am planning on featuring lots of inspiration posts, DIY’s, and also product/store reviews.

Ok, now that that announcement has been made, the second reason I am here is to show you the cute print and vintage knitting needles that I bought from Merry May Handmade at the Butter Toast Boutique the other day.

I have also really loved the story behind the “Keep Calm”posters, and have always really wanted one for myself. For those of you who do not know the story behind the poster it “was initially produced by the Ministry of Information in 1939 during the beginning of World War II, and was intended as a “last case scenario” to be used only should the Nazis succeed in invading Britain via Operation Sea Lion, in order to stiffen resolve. Two-and-a-half million copies were printed, although the poster was distributed only in limited numbers. (…) In 2000, a copy of the “Keep Calm and Carry On” poster was rediscovered in Barter Books, a second-hand bookshop in Alnwick, Northumberland,” according to the Wikipedia website.

When I saw this lovely print of an altered version of the famous poster hanging in Merry May’s room, I just knew it had to be mine.

They even came with a pretty fabric bow on them.

Tomorrow Scott and I are going on an adventure to the Kartchner Caverns outside of Tucson, Arizona. Check back for pictures of our trip! Oh, and also keep your eyes peeled for a sweet giveaway Friday!

Hope everyone has a lovely Wednesday evening!
