AN AFTERNOON AT THE PUEBLO

07.19.17

Since spotting this darling plant shop on Instagram a few months back, I’ve been dying to visit The Pueblo! Located in the historic Brill Pharmacy building, and right across the street from the recently (re)opened Gallo Blanco, The Pueblo is a curated nursery filled with plants of all sorts, pots of all sizes and the sweetest greeter that might just give you a cold nose welcome. A little stroll through their shop is sure to give you a taste of green thumb envy, but the folks who run it are super knowledgable and equally friendly, so trust me when I say that you’re in good hands here!

Scott and I spent a good amount of time combing through every inch of the shop before finally deciding on a few plants + pots to take home. The Pueblo is the sister shop to The Bosque, downtown Phoenix’s only plant shop and a space that is equally as cute as this one. We actually stopped by The Bosque on our way here a few weekends back — making the afternoon a plant tour of sorts. If it wasn’t so hot out, I might have talked Scott into driving us down to Dig It, but we’ll save that trip for a cooler day.

With summer in full swing, I’ve been trying my best to pull out my sundresses and rock those bare legs on the hottest of days in Phoenix. I’ll admit, I love buying dresses (especially for special occasions — birthdays, holidays, etc.), but I’m not the best at wearing them everyday. This beauty was this year’s “birthday dress,” and is honestly one of my favorite items in my closet currently. If you’re interested, it’s on super sale right now and would look so cute dressed up with heels + a clutch, or dressed down even more with a jean jacket and a pair of white Vans or Converse! I’m planning on bringing it with us to London and Paris, so I’m sure you’ll see it around here again soon.

This snake plant + white pot ended up coming home with us! These tall guys are know for their air purifying qualities, making it a great plant to keep in your bedroom. We actually have a much larger one in our living room and I’ve loved seeing it get taller and taller or the the past year that we’ve been in our home.

The Pueblo also has an outdoor greenhouse! I hear this area is much more lively during the cooler months, so I’m excited to come back in the late fall/winter to get the full experience.

Madewell Bandana
Madewell Magnolia Tie-Back Dress (on super sale!)                                                                              Ellen and James Rattan Bag                                                                                                              Vince Camuto Sandals (similar + on sale!)

If you’re local to the area or just stopping by, I would definitely suggest taking a peek at The Pueblo and The Bosque for all your plant needs (and let’s be real, I bit of plant eye-candy for all you plant lovers out there).

Happy Wednesday, friends! Thank you so much for stopping by!

SIX SUMMERY LIPSTICK SHADES

07.18.17

Over the past eight years, I’ve shared a few thoughts here and there on my beauty routine and favorite beauty products. In fact, I recently shared my summer beauty routine + favorite products, and last autumn I shared my fall beauty picks, but today I thought it would be fun to elaborate more on my love for lipstick and share six summery lipsticks shades that I’ve been loving this season – from reds to dark pinks and almost nudes, and from high-end to drugstore prices — there’s a color and price point for everyone here! Curious as to what shades you could find in my makeup bag as of lately? Here’s the full scoop —

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Persimmon – The shade featured is actually in Palomino, an old favorite that I’ve had in my collection for a few years now. However, I feel like Persimmon is an updated version and would look great on so many skin tones! I’m a big fan of bright, bright lipsticks during the summer, and this one is sure to bring some brightness and color to your everyday summer look!

Nars Lipstick in Heat Wave – An old trusty favorite that I’ve had in my makeup bag for years, Heat Wave is a classic Nars shade and is the most perfect orange-red matte lipstick out there! I’ve heard that Taza is also a fan of this color, and ya’ll know she has great taste in lipsticks!

MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour in Feels So Grand – A new favorite that I recently purchased after seeing a recommendation from Something Sakura! I’m actually a big fan of the formula, and love the shade. If you’re liquid lipstick lover, I have a hunch you’re going to love this shade!

Wearing my favorite pink as of lately – Fanfare! PS find this rad tee in my friend’s sweet shop, Keep it Wild!

Nars Lipstick in Funny Face – Another Nars classic that I’ve been rocking for many years now! It’s a great pink-blue and can be applied lightly for a brighter shade, or darker for a deeper look.

NYX Matte Lipstick in Tea Rose – If I had to pick one lipstick to wear every single day from here on out, it would be this one! It’s the perfect “my lips but better” shade and looks good throughout all seasons! It’s super inexpensive too, which makes me love it even more!

MAC Lipstick in FanFair – This has been my go-to shade as of lately! A beautiful pink that brightens the face and lasts in this crazy summer heat!

Ok, now it’s your turn to share your favs! What’s your go-to summer lipstick shade? What brands or formulas have you been loving lately? I’ve always got my eye on Bite Beauty, but am truly a MAC gal through and through! Be back soon!

KEEPIN’ IT WILD

07.13.17

Hey friends! Can you believe we’re already almost half way into the month? I know I probably say this every season, but I swear — this summer is going by so fast! And on that note, I want thank ya’ll so much for your sweet words and recommendations in regards to our big summer trip news! We are SO excited to be heading on over to the other side of the pond (and beyond), and are super, super stoked to be able to share all about our trip with ya while we’re over there! We leave in just about two weeks, so I guess we should start packing soon – haha! Anyways, I also have some exciting news — this sweet Yosemite tee is now available in the Keep It Wild shop! I’m sure their National Parks Collections will sell out fast, so I would suggest that you RUNNN (not walk) to their site ASAP to pick up your very own!

Aside from prepping for our trip, Scott and I have been focusing on a few big projects (include a few home updates – promise to share more on those soon) recently. Since the opening of the new West Elm location (with their very own Citizen HD pieces in tow), Scott has been working on customer orders, prepping for pop-up shops and get things all set up before we hop on a jet plane! Ya’ll, he’s been working SO hard and I’m SO proud of him! Feeling so blessed to see him doing what he loves most every day! xo

How has everyone’s week been? This past week has been a bit nutty with work, projects and evening plans, but I am excited to hopefully get in a little R&R this weekend before “the big push” that I imagine is going to happen a week or so before our trip. I keep asking myself if we’re forgetting anything big (tickets – check! passport – check! travel attire – check? ECK), but I already have a feeling that everything will follow into place. Lately I’ve found myself stalking a few of my fav UK YouTubers/bloggers to see their favorite places and spaces in the city! I’m secretly wishing that I’ll run to Kate La Vie, Wish, Wish, Wish or maybe even The Anna Edit while we’re out there — but I guess we’ll just have to see!

Cuyana Summer Hat
Keep It Wild Yosemite Tee                                                                                                            Madewell High-Rise Skinny Jeans                                                                                                       Ellen and James Rattan Bag                                                                                                              Nisolo Huarache Sandals

What’s the rest of everyone’s week look like? Beating the heat with ALL the iced coffee, I hope! I’m going to be finishing up a big project, working on my packing list and dreaming of the two full weeks of cooler weather on the horizon, haha! Anyways, I’ll be be back soon, friends! Oh, and don’t forget — order your Yosemite tee now while you still can! 😉

WE’RE HEADED TO…

07.10.17

Ok ya’ll, I know I’ve been hinting here there about a BIG trip Scott and I are gearing up to go on later this month — and today I thought it was finally time to share where we’re headed! Scott and I have been dreaming of this trip since we were teenagers and are SO excited to share that after years of dreaming, saving up and finally booking those spendy plane tickets — we’re headed across the pond to London and Paris!

I can’t even get over how amazing it feels to finally have this trip on the books after years of dreaming that one day we’d get there together! We’ll be spending five days in London and six days in Paris, so if you have any suggestions — we’re all ears! At the top of our list so far:

London: Buckingham Palace, Sketch, Hyde Park, Harrods & the London Eye!

Paris: Eiffel Tower, The Louvre, Sezane, Catacombs of Paris, and Versailles!

I’ve been keeping a tight eye on all things London + Paris lately, including digging through some of my fav UK + Euro based Instagrammer’s feeds for shopping, coffee + food and adventure inspiration! We truly can’t wait to take ya’ll along with us on this trip of a lifetime and promise to stay in touch here and via Instagram while we’re there!

It feels so good to finally let the cat out of the bag and I can’t thankful ya’ll enough for being excited with us! Now it’s time to brush up on my French and get my London lingo down! I’ll be back soon, friends — but until then, au revoir!

ONTO THE WEEKEND — 07

07.09.17

Happy Saturday, friends! I hope ya’ll are having a weekend so far! Scott and I spent a busy day cleaning our house from top to bottom for a super exciting shoot that we’re doing tomorrow (promise to share more on that soon)! We really only left the house to grab lunch + dinner, which is a bit crazy for us on a Saturday – but I guess you can say it was one productive day around The Appleby Home! Aside from that, here’s a few links from around the web that I think you’ll enjoy —

— I’m a big fan of Kate La Vie and loved reading her recent post about eloping! Definitely worth a read, even if you’re an ol’ married gal like me!

— My sweet friend, Jane, of A Taste of Koko, is in town and I can’t wait to have dinner with her tomorrow! If you haven’t peeked her blog before, be sure and pop on over there + leave her a sweet comment — she’s seriously so rad!

— Are we friends on Pinterest yet? I’ve been pinning a ton of home decor inspiration lately!

— I recently found myself going back to this post from M Loves M — it’s definitely a good read if you’re in need of a little de-stress refresh!

— Have you check out my recent post on my current skincare routine? I’m always open to suggestions as well, so if you have any products you really love — let a gal know!

Anyways, I hope ya’ll have an amazing rest of our weekend, and I’ll be back soon!

MY CURRENT SKINCARE ROUTINE

07.06.17

Over the years, I’ve shared a few thoughts here and there on my everyday skincare routine. In fact, I even shared a few words to the wise in my pseudo-birthday post this past May, but since I’ve never actually put pen to paper (err — fingers to keyboard) in terms of my (current) skincare routine, I thought it might be nice to finally get it all down and share the products I’ve been loving lately (and many for even longer than that). Curious as to what skincare products I like to stock my medicine cabinet with all year long? Here’s the low-down —

Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream – This is my all-time favorite face cream! I’ve been using it for years and have a hard time trying anything else because it just works so well! It sinks in quickly, doesn’t have a heavy scent and always leaves my skin feeling very hydrated. I use it day and night and couldn’t recommend it enough!

Glossier Super Bounce – The Glossier hype is real, ya’ll! I bought this on a whim a few months back and have found myself loving it, especially in this hot, hot, heat! It leaves my skin feeling smooth + super hydrated.

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser – I LOVE how soft this makes my skin feel! I like to switch up my cleansers throughout the week, but this one has been on heavy rotation lately.

Glossier Super Glow – If I’m not using my Glossier Super Bounce, I’m using this bad boy to add a little glow to my complexion! They claim that it helps give you the “light from within” look, and I couldn’t agree more!

Thayer’s Witch Hazel – I’ve been using this as a toner for years now and honestly couldn’t love it more. I use it to tone my face daily, but also use it when I’m in a pinch and just need a quick refresh before running out the door sans makeup. It’s pretty darn affordable too, and a bottle lasts forever!

First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser – Another old favorite that I like to switch in and out of my routine. There really isn’t anything fancy about this product, but it’s truly a great cleanser that leaves your skin feeling super clean [Scott is also a fan of it too, just in case you were wondering– 😉 ].

And there you have it — my current skincare routine for a combination skin gal living in the dry desert heat! Now it’s your turn to share your favorites! What skincare products do you swear by? Anything new that you’ve been loving lately? Also, if you have a favorite eye cream — let a gal know won’t ya! Thanks in advance, sweet friends!

HOME IS WHEREVER I’M WITH YOU

07.05.17

Happy 4th of July, friends! I just wanted to pop in to share why it’s been so quiet around here — Scott and I decided to skip town for the holiday weekend and head somewhere cooler, SLC to be exact! We had a full agenda of family hangs, puppy walks + kisses, and seeing this colorful wall in person (and it was everything I hoped it be and so much more, haha – promise to share all about it soon). Anyways, I hope y’all had an amazing long weekend + holiday! Seeing these sweet pups of mine was so recharging — I just miss them so much when they’re summering with my folks in the cooler weather! Here’s to a wonderful week, friends! I’ll be back soon!

AROUND OUR HOME — 11

06.30.17

Happy Friday! How it is the last day of June? This month was, yet again, another whirlwind! We started off the beginning of June with fresh eyes and a full heart after visiting two of our dearest friends in California for the holiday weekend! From here, the rest of the month seem to go by so fast — we had a booth at Pineapple Triangle, a Father’s Day pop-up at Frances, spent lots of time with friends, worked on our home, hid from the heat (we had the craziest temps in June) and so much more!

We ended the month with a bang as we celebrated the opening of the West Elm Phoenix location, which now carries select Citizen Home Decor pieces! To say that we’re honored would be an understatement, and we honestly can’t thank ya’ll enough for all of your sweet words of love and support!

Ready for a few peeks into our home during the month of June? Here we go –

— Scott and I brought back this Case Study planter from Shop Pigment a few weekends back after spending what’s felt like forever pining over it and almost ordering it online a million times! So happy to finally have it in our home!

— A bright little spot in our bedroom! Now that the sun is rising so early, our bedroom has been filling with light super early! We went all last summer without black-out curtains, but I’m thinking this year it’s time to invest in some. Also, how did peony season go by so fast? This year it felt especially short (and very delayed), but geez it was so nice when it was here! The dark red ones are my favorite, but the bright pink ones come in at a close second!

— Just a little reminder that I look at daily! This giant print from Anthony Burrill, that we picked up at Schoolhouse Electric when we were in Portland this past January, is one of my favorite purchases of the year! I also love the gold Framebridge frame we ended up pairing it with (and if you’re curious — here’s a few tips on how to style a photo ledge – like the one we have right next to it).

How was your June? Is it hot, hot in your hometown? July is set to be a busy and VERY exciting month — and I truly can’t wait to share all of our adventures here with ya’ll!

Hope you have a lovely, long weekend, friends! Any plans for the 4th of July? I’m in need of a cherry snow cone and a s’more or two (or maybe three, haha)! Here’s to a great one!

NOT JUST A…

06.28.17

It’s true what they say, were are not just one thing in life! Photographer, wife, maker, traveler, blogger — I’m all of these things and more! What about you? Painter, surfer, student, woodworker? #MyVans have seen me through my student days, trips abroad and countless concerts — following me along every step of the way as I grew and changed into the person I am today!

Ready for your turn to share? Let the kind folks over at Vans and I know what you’re all about! Who you are! What makes you, you! Don’t forget to make your own GIF and share your story online! I hope ya’ll are having a great week, and I’ll be back soon!
