OUR NASHVILLE GETAWAY: PART III

02.08.16

Our first full day in Nashville was a bit of a doozy — we knocked off tons of places off of our “must-see/experience/eat” list, so I thought I would break things up a bit and share the second half of day 1 with you now — which included a stop at

Third Man Records

! Scott and I are both big fans of Jack White, so we knew that stopping by his record store/recording studio was a must. The shop itself is pretty small, and we weren’t really prepared to stay for the studio tour, but it was neat to see a few pieces from The White Stripes history (like the legos from their Fell In Love With A Girl music video). After looking around the studio for a bit, we decided we should heat to the 12 South area of Nashville next for some lunch and more exploring.

Edley’s BBQ:

When it came to BBQ, this Nashville landmark came highly suggested! After parking down at

Sevier Park

(which was also such a beautiful place) at the end of the 12 South neighborhood, we made our way to Edley’s for lunch. Scott was stoked to finally have a taste of Southern BBQ, and this joint definitely didn’t disappoint. We had pulled pork, beans, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese AND friend pickles — yep, we totally went for it! Everything we had was delicious — even the vinegar based coleslaw that I was a little hesitant about! 😉

Whites Mercantile

: After lunch we made our way through the shops around 12 South, and White’s Mercantile was up first! I loved every inch of this store — from their home decor, kitchen wares, clothing and even puppy pieces, everything was beautiful and I could have taken the whole store home with me!

Imogene & Willie

: I feel like our trip wouldn’t have been complete without visiting Imogene & Willie. Of course I had seen this premium denim shop all over Instagram, and let me tell you — it’s just as charming in-person as it is in pictures. We, sadly, didn’t walk away with anything from I&W, but a pair of their custom denim jeans is now on my wishlist!

Las Paletas:

Another charming treat shop that we had been recommended in 12 South! Paletas are pretty common here in the Southwest, but Las Paletas really knows their stuff and had some great flavors — Scott had avocado and I had the melon, both of which were delicious!

After exploring 12 South for a couple of hours, we headed to

Crema

for a little pick-me-up. We’ve only heard good things about this Nashville staple, and it made for the perfect place to sit, take a break and also meet a few friends — which we did — accidentally, that is! I’ve known

Karysn

and

Collin

Dupree for a few years now, so it was so neat to run into them at Crema. They moved to Nashville a few months back, so I had a feeling that we might bumped into each other, but getting to sit and learn more about them from outside of the computer (or really — phone) screen was such a treat. They’re doing amazing things right now with their business,

Bliss Branch

, and their music project,

Fortunes

, so definitely keep your eye on them in the coming months!

The coffee at Crema simple and delicious — Scott had an Ethiopian Pour Over and I had a seasonal citrus latte.

After our coffee stop turned coffee date with the Duprees, we headed to

Pinewood Social

for dinner! I’m sure you’ve all seen photos of their famous bowling alley before — and truthfully, that’s what brought us in! After dinner, though, we decided we were both too tired to play a game and called it an early night after a day of running around the city. Nashville really treated us well this day, and we were excited to have another few adventurous days in and around the city!

Umm, how was our trip already almost a month ago? Promise to wrap things up here on the blog shortly, but I hope ya’ll have a great rest of your Sunday evening and an amazing Valentine’s week! Do you have any big plans? We have a busy week with work, but plan on celebrating our love over the weekend! Talk soon!

OUR NASHVILLE GETAWAY: PART II

02.01.16

Hello! I’m back with Part II of our Nashville getaway — we started our first full day in Music City by having brunch at

Marche Artisan Foods

. We were recommended this restaurant  by so many different people, and since it was close to our Airbnb, we figured it would be the perfect place to kick off our first adventurous day in the city. Truthfully, the space, the food and the view [ 😉 ] were all amazing.

Scott and I each had a piping hot cup of black coffee, and one of the seasonal specials that was on their rotating menu. The roasted veggie + sweet potato hash was divine, and from what I hear — Scott’s frittata + roasted potatoes were pretty amazing!

Marathon Village

:

After brunch, heading to the historic Marathon Village was next up on our list! Built in 1881, this building was once home to the Marathon Motor Car Factory. Today, it’s home to a few neat boutiques, a coffee shop, creative studio spaces and

Antique Archeology

aka A

merican Pickers

! Scott was pretty stoked on the idea of visiting the Nashville home-base for one of his favorite tv shows, and I was equally excited about the idea of spotting Mike Wolf, so this visit was a win, win for the both of us. 😉

Scott and I both really enjoyed our time looking around at the vintage goods (and American Pickers merchandise) at Antique Archeology. If you’ve ever been to a shop that they film in, like the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop from Pawn Stars in Las Vegas, you know that they can often turn into more of a t-shirt shop and less of what they started out as. Well, while they had their fair share of t-shirts, mugs, and amazing

Hatch posters

there, the shop still had a good amount of vintage goods and made for an interesting look-through during our time there. We saw the famous pig head head that they had from the show, amazing photos of an early 1900’s circus and vintage instruments that covered a whole wall of their store. The icing on the cake of our visit, though, was having AA like my photos on Instagram later that day — I made have squealed just a little when I saw the notifications! 😉

After checking out most of the other shops in the village, picking out a few souvenirs (including a vintage portrait that looks like our Cavalier King Charles pup, Piper, in a full suit) we snapped a few photos in front of the vintage Marathon Motor Works sign and then hightailed it out of there — well, only to a few blocks away where we had spotted one of the three “I Believe in Nashville” murals.

Seeing these murals were on my long list of things to do while in Nashville, so I was excited when we happen to pass right by this one near Marathon Village. Later on in the day we found the “I Believe..” mural that most everyone takes a photo in front of, which is located in 12 South, but I have to say — I kind of like this one a little better. I didn’t have to wait to take a photo + the sun felt so good pounding on me on such a chilly day.

Ok, be back with Part III soon — until then, have a great start to your February, sweet friends!

Hello! As promised, I wanted to share our Nashville necessities with ya’ll. While going to Music City was at the top of our travel list, landing there in January where there could be inches of snow on the ground (much like the week after we left), below freezing temps and windy walks all through the city. So what did we do to combat the cold? Well, we did what any desert rat would do — packed ALL of our warm belongings + layers and just went for it! I’ll admit — we may have slightly overpacked, but  here’s what he brought that ended up being a necessity during our time in Nashville!

Redwing 1907 Men’s Boots

:

Scott wore these most days while down South.

Brixton Rival Snapback

:

Hats were a must in the cold (for the both of us!).

Leather ChuckTaylor Converse

:

Walking shoes to switch things up!

Madewell Buffalo Flannel

: THE coziest flannel that made layering a breeze.

Madewell Slouchie Beani

e

: Like I said, hats were a must in that chilly weather!

Sam Edleman Petty Boots

:

 My go-to everyday boot!

Madewell Zip Tote

: My monogrammed zip tote made for the perfect accessory during the week!

Madewell Skinny Skinny Jeans

: Comfy, great wash and thick enough to keep the wind off of me.

Madewell Brimfield Jacket

:

Perfect for layering and the perfect color!

Olive Puffer Jacket

:

The one I have is from Athleta and it was SO warm!

Men’s Puffer Jacket

:

Scott’s favorite, lightweight coat that kept him toasty and cozy.

What’s on your winter essentials or must-have list lately? What have you been loving during these

cold

months?

OUR NASHVILLE GETAWAY: PART I

01.25.16

Just over a week ago, Scott and I returned from our Nashville getaway. We had a lot of people asking why we chose to head to Music City during the coldest time of the year, but our reason was simple — it was our second wedding anniversary and we wanted to celebrate our love in a new place that we could experience together! Aside from that, Nashville has been on our list of places to visit for quite some time. They have an amazing and growing coffee culture, tons of music history, delicious BBQ, neat shops and so much more — so why wouldn’t we want to visit such a unique place? Well, your guess is better than mine, but we bit the bullet and booked our tickets and an AirBnB all in one evening after we found a couple of deals that we couldn’t pass up. Fast forward a month or so later,  and we were sitting on an airplane headed for the South– well, not before having a layover in Denver on our way there, which gave us the best view of the snow we’ve seen all winter.

Once we landed in Nashville, we grabbed our bags, picked up the rental car and made our way to our little home-away-from-home for the rest of the week. We stayed in a charming, little house in East Nashville, which was the area we figured we would spend most of our time in (and was also fairly centrally located to everywhere else we wanted to go). The house was just as it was in the pictures, and although it was dark when we arrived, I knew it looked like a cute, cozy and safe place to stay during our getaway. If you’re curious, we stayed in this

Cozy and Eclectic Mid-Century house

and would defiantly recommend it! Anyways, after bringing our bags in, giving the house a good look through, we piled back into the car and headed to

Mas Tacos, Por Favor

— one of the restaurants that we were most recommended!

Mas Tacos

:

This teeny, hip Mexican restaurant was tucked away off a side-street not too far from where we were staying. We had the guac + chips, chickens tacos, and the sweet potato tacos which were SO delicious! Scott and I later thought it was kind of funny that the first thing we do once we land in the South is go eat something that we could easily find at home, but going to Mas Tacos was definitely worth the trip.

Barista Parlor

:

Coffee felt like a must after our long day of flying and a yummy meal, so we drove to the OG Barista Parlor for a shared latte and some time planning out what the next day would look like. We knew we wanted to check out all three Barista locations, and since this one was pretty close to Mas Tacos, we decided to head there first. We ended up going to all three locations, but I’ll share more on the other two later!

After we finished our latte we called it an early night and headed to bed so we could be well rested for our first full day in Nashville. I’ll be back soon with more of our adventures, and maybe even a winter packing essentials list soon for our time in the cold! Happy Monday, sweet friends!

WITHOUT THE DARK, WE’D NEVER SEE THE STARS

01.20.16

Oh, hey — it’s been awhile, sweet friends! Last Wednesday, Scott and I jetted off to Nashville to celebrate our second wedding anniversary a little early. Neither of us had ever been to Music City before, so it was amazing that we got to experience every inch of such a unique place together for the very first time. I plan on sharing tons of adventures from our trip, but until then I just wanted to pop in and say hi and see how ya’ll’s January has been going so far — can you believe we’re already half way through the month? I’ve actually been loving the cold/cooler weather we’ve been having around here, but I am so ready for the sun to start setting a little later — I feel like my body is craving more and more daylight!

JANUARY DAYS

01.12.16

It’s true — January is one of my very favorite months! Everything feels crisp, clean and refreshed once again and the charm of the new year feels endless (well, at least until February rolls around). January is also when we, after over seven years together, finally tied the knot and the excitement of that time seems to come rushing back during these few days that lead up to our 2014 wedding. On the 18th, we’ll celebrate two years of wedded bliss and if I’m being real — it’s kind of hard to believe how fast the time has gone! How was our wedding almost two years ago? If you’re interested and haven’t seen it yet, here’s just a little peek at our magical wedding day. PS thanks for humoring me while I get all mushy gushy over here and on Instagram the next few days! xo

Scott and I have been spending the past few days getting ready for our big trip to Nashville on Wednesday, and also taking in this

chilly

weather we’ve been having. It’s supposed to be

cold

while we’re in the South, so I’m trying my best to pack ALL the layers, while still leaving room to bring home a few goodies are two! I’m actually a chronic overpacker because I love to have options, so I’m trying my best to only pack what I think I’ll wear or need. But, just in case — I think we’re still going to bring one more suitcase for all those odds and ends that I just “need” or can’t go home without! 😉

I still really want to share my resolutions, hopes and dreams for the year with you all, but until then I’ll be flying to the South with my honey and enjoying every bit of awesomeness that Nashville has to offer!

SUNNY & GREY

01.06.16

As I look at these photos, full of warmth and bright light, I can hear the rain pouring down outside and can see nothing but a pitch black sky. The past few days around here have been so gray, cold and full of rain clouds, so much so that I can hardly believe we’re in Arizona! It seems El Nino is really giving us a run for our money (or making us run from the rain, really), but I’ll take it while I can, because the summer heat somehow feels closer than it should. Ok, ok — enough about the rain, let’s chat about Nashville! Scott and I are headed there next week and are really excited to explore a bit of the South, eat some delicious food, sip on some great coffee and celebrate 2 years of being Mr. & Mrs.

We don’t really have any concrete plans for our trip to the music city, but we do have a list of places to go, things to see, BBQ to be eaten and coffee to be splurged on (because let’s be real — we’re going to be drinking so much amazing coffee while we’re there!). Among one of the places I want to see the most is RCA’s Studio B where some of the absolute greats have recorded — Elvis, Dolly Parton and The Strokes, while Scott is really into checking out Antique Archeology and Third Man Records! We’re still all ears for suggestions, so please leave your favorite Nashville hangs in the comments! xo

Outfit Details:

Athleta Lodge Sweater

Alex and Ani Celestial Necklace

Lucky Brand Leggings

Impossible Booties c/o Seychelles

Other than enjoying the rain, we’ve just been working, spending time at home and trying to get ready and rested up for our trip. We’ve also been watching an unmentionable amount of Fixer Upper, Rehab Addict and all things home DIY — these shows are seriously addicting! How has the start of your 2016 been so far? It’s still so weird to say that! Wasn’t it just 2006? 1996? WOW!

NEW YEAR’S EVE WITH SCHOOLA

12.31.15

Happy New Year’s Eve, sweet friends! The last day of the year is here and I can hardly believe that we’ll be going into the year 2016 in just a few mere hours. To celebrate the occasion, I wanted to share a very special NYE outfit — I recently received this darling dress from Schoola, an awesome secondhand clothing retailer that gives 40% of their proceeds to schools. As many of you know, education is near and dear to my heart, so I jumped at the opportunity to help share the message of all the good that Schoola is doing!

On top of an already amazing mission of putting paintbrushes, books, baseballs, violins and more back into the hands of school aged children, Schoola has partnered with the Malala Fund to empower girls through education! They’re also committed to raising $100,000 for the Malala Fund through the sale of clothing on their site, which is HUGE! You can shop all the items that will benefit the Malala Fund, including new with tags pieces from Modcloth (which is where my darling dress is from!), Athleta, Gymboree, Tea Collection and more right here, and let me tell you — they have some darling pieces to choose from!

On top of shopping for new and gently loved clothing items, you can also request a Malala bag to fill and donate clothing on behalf of the Malala Fund, with 40% of proceeds going to help girls gain education around the world! With the new year just minutes away, this would be the perfect time to request a bag of your own and start 2016 off on an amazing start by donating and helping to aide an amazing cause!

WINTER’S EVE

12.30.15

Hello! I hope ya’ll had an amazing Christmas and time well spent with your family and friends! Things have been a little quiet around here, but that’s only because I’ve been doing the same — trying to soak in every second of that holiday magic before it all washes away. However, I am really excited for the new year, but I’ll save those thoughts for tomorrow’s post! Anyways, I thought I would share a little update over the past few days, since I always love reading about what you guys are doing over the holidays! On Christmas Eve Eve, we drove about three hours south of Phoenix to Yuma, AZ to visit family and attend a Christmas get-together. We ended up staying the night in Yuma, and then headed back home on Christmas Eve morning — we had actually stopped by the local swap meet before hitting the road, so I had a bag full of candy and I was all set for the long drive, haha.

Once we got settled back in at home, we headed over to Scott’s parents’ house for an evening of celebrations. His family has always opened gifts on Christmas Eve, so it actually works of perfectly because we get to spend time with them, and then be with my folks on Christmas morning — which is exactly what we did. After we had exchanged presents and filled up on quiche, cinnamon rolls and coffee that morning, we packed up and drove about an hour west to visit Scott’s grandparents and to meet his family back over there for lunch! We spent a few hours visiting at their gorgeous property in the desert, and then headed back home for dinner with my folks — it was a very busy couple of days, but it was also so much fun and the perfect way to spend the holidays (surrounded by the ones we love!).

Since Christmas, Scott and I have been working on a little pre-new years cleaning, planning our trip to Nashville next month (have I mentioned that we’re headed there for our anniversary? we can’t wait!), and also battling a couple of colds (Scott is feeling way worse, though — poor guy). I’ve also been trying my best to go through my wardrobe lately, which is way more daunting than it should be. Ideally, I want pull out the things I love and know I’ll wear often, and also put away those pieces that may be for a different season or just need to be donated. I’ve been loving the idea of doing a capsule wardrobe, and a few of my sweet friends,

Tieka

,

Veronika

and

Indian

a

to be exact, have been rocking this concept lately, so I’ve been seriously living vicariously through them, haha. Now, if I can only convince myself that I actually NEED to do this, then we should be all set! 😉

One thing I have been loving about my wardrobe lately, is this

dainty, rose gold, full circle pendant

that

Shane Co.

was sweet enough to gift me. It’s been adding a rosey glow to my everyday wardrobe, and looks so pretty either worn separately or layered with another necklace or two. Shane Co. is actually where Scott and I’s wedding rings are from, so I’ve been a big fan of theirs for a long time now. Every time we go in there the staff is always super sweet and helpful, and I know that we would both suggest them to anyone if they’re in the market for a very special ring!
