That Summery Feeling

06.28.12

The temperatures in my part of Colorado have been soaring lately, and that means it’s finally starting to feel more like summer and less like fall/spring. When I got here in late May I was wearing lots of layering and my (Arizona) winter coat. Nowadays our highs are rivaling those back home, and convincing me to finally put away (most) of my layered clothing. Really, though, I’ll take it! July is almost upon us and I’m already dreaming of fall (just a few more months!).

Back in December my parents took a trip to Southern Mexico (Veracruz area) and brought me back this lovely, handmade blouse (along with two pounds of fresh coffee, seriously!). I’ve been saving it in my closet for a special, summery day. I especially love the embroidery detail, and the little tie in the back. I have a feeling it’s going to be a piece that I treasure forever, and love that it has a sweet story behind it.

You may or may not know that I have a LOVE for Minnetonka Moccasins. I recently picked up these pretty moccs in a tiny mountain town and have been slowly breaking them in the past few weeks. I love the feather detailing, and how soft they are. Minnetonka really does make the best moccasins around!
Today I’m getting things ready for Scott’s arrival TOMORROW! I can’t believe he’s almost here, and can’t wait to go pick him up in the morning. Running into his arms is always the best feeling, and I can’t wait to spend some quality, summery time with him. ECK! My heart is seriously so full right now!

Around Hotel Colorado

06.26.12

The thing that gets me in these tiny towns is the history behind them. It amazes me that all of these old, beautiful brick buildings have seen a hundred or more years of friendly faces (and maybe some not so friendly ones), celebrations, every day life, and everyone from wild west slinging cowboys, to 21st Century personal style bloggers. Oh, if those walls could talk!

I recently visited one of my favorite spots in Glenwood Springs, CO, the Hotel Colorado. The hotel was built in 1893 and has housed American presidents, the unsinkable Molly Brown, and Doc Holiday himself (who died down the street and is buried up on a nearby hill!). The very first Teddy bear was also made at the hotel and was given to President Teddy Roosevelt as a gift after a poor day of hunting (I’m personally thankful for this, because my childhood would not have been the same without my teddy bear).
Recently (ok, ever since I left home really) I’ve been counting down the days until Scott’s arrival in Colorado. This Friday we will be reunited again, and I’m so ready to drive down to the airport this minute and run into his arms (only a few more days to go!). I’m so excited to have my love/best friend/adventure buddy back by my side, and can’t wait to spend so much quality time together (road trips, breakfast dates, coffee stops, oh my!).

Do you have any favorite old buildings? What is getting you super excited this week?

Milk Run

06.23.12

This may sound silly, but I really love a good donut. It may be due to the fact that almost every Sunday for the past twenty or so years has been donut Sunday, and I just don’t feel right when I don’t get my donut. Recently I was in Steamboat Springs, CO and was so excited when I stumbled upon a donut cafe.

I made it into the cafe right before they were about to close, so the donut pickings were a little slim, but there was still a few classic style donuts left (and maybe a chai and candy bar-esque donut too!). I ended up getting a classic cake donut, a glazed donut, and a chocolate glazed one for me and the fam.

I may have eaten half of my chocolate glazed in the car. It’s silly, but a good donut can really put a smile on my face. Back at home I LOVE going to Bosa donuts and getting something from their “fancy donut” section and splitting it with Scott (donut date!).
Ok, now that I have professed my love for donuts to you, it’s time for you to spill the beans. Are you a donut kind of person? If so, what kind do you usually get?

Radiant Colors

06.21.12

A few days back I blogged about Radiant Cosmetics and their beauty with a purpose mission. Today I wanted to post a few photos of some Radiant products, and give a little detail on each one.

The Harlowe Pink Powder Blush On is a powder based blusher that is the prettiest bubble gum pink shade. The blusher is well pigmented, and blends easily into the cheeks. The two frost eyeshadows, Penny Lane and Stormy Weather, are incredibly velvety and very pigmented as well. Overall, I am incredibly impressed with the quality of each item, and again, love the mission behind Radiant Cosmetics.
Lately I’ve been really into beauty blogs, so I thought it would be fun to do a product post like the ones I’ve been devouring lately. I’m still such a newbie to the beauty blogger world, but I’m really loving learning more about it and dabble into a little beauty blogging of my own.
Are you into reading beauty blogs? Do you like to read up/see watches and other photos of products before you purchase them?

Eagle Scout Park

06.19.12

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about where my blog has taken me these past three years (my blog turned three last week!) , and where I think I would like to see it go. This blog started solely as a place to share my adventures with Scott while we were a part, but since then it has turned into something I never ever thought it would be. With that said, I am so incredibly thankful for what my blog has grown into, and I feel so blessed to be involved in this amazing blogosphere community.

More than a year and a half after I started posting outfit photos on a regular basis, and I still love doing it. I love finding unique locations to take photos in, and I love how taking outfit photos has given me that extra pushed I needed to try out different looks that I might not have otherwise.
I’ve recently been giving a lot of thought to where I would like to see my blog go in the next year, content wise that is. I have a few ideas in mind, but for now I just want to take things one step at a time and see where things take me.
So here’s to another year full of blogging many adventures, outfit photos, and words from the heart. I am so thankful to have this amazing space in the blogosphere to share my thoughts, and truly appreciate all the love that you, my incredibly sweet readers, have shown my blog over the years. You all make this experience that much more amazing, and it wouldn’t be the same without you!

Beauty All Around

06.16.12

Taking in the beauty all around means going on long walks through tiny towns, spotting gorgeous flowers, drinking lots of iced coffee, looking up and down and all around, and wearing your old favorite shoes. The outstanding, natural beauty out there really makes a person think about how small they are in this world, but also how important the choices they make are (and how they affect everything else in this world).
Do thoughts like this every hit you?

Steamboat Springs

06.15.12

Now that I’m in Colorado, I often go on adventures on my own. I’ll usually be driving around, keeping an eye out for interesting shops, coffee shops, and scenic areas. For years I’ve driving my this bridge (you can see it right off of the main road in Steamboat Springs, CO), and have always wanted to pull over and make my way down to that gorgeous walkway. So last week I decided I would finally go for it. Park the car, figure out the right path I needed to take to get down there, and hangout for a bit to just take everything in.

Oftentimes I get a little nervous going on adventures on my own. If you were to ask Scott, he would tell you I’m a big scaredy cat, but really, I just want to make sure I’m going to be safe. On this day that I finally made my way down to the bridge there was all kinds of people hanging out, and that definitely eased my nerves. From where I stood I could see dogs swimming in the river, people floating by on inner tubes, and more people just taking in the beauty (just like me).
If you’re ever in Steamboat Springs, CO (a nice size ski town that is still going even during the summer months), I would suggest going to check out this bridge and amazing view. It’s right off of the main street that goes through town, and there is parking across the street near the bank. I can only imagine how gorgeous this view would be during the winter as well!

Today I’m itching to go on another adventure, and think a nice walk around town is just what I need. I heard there is a froyo shop nearby and I could definitely go for some! Frozen yogurt shops aren’t as in an abundance around here like they are at home, so when I hear of one close by I feel like it’s necessary that I go check it out!
What are you up to today?

Beauty With A Purpose

06.13.12

This month I’m honored to be able to partner with Radiant Cosmetics. If you’re not familiar with Radiant Cosmetic yet, their mission is to help raise awareness for human trafficking by raising funds from their cosmetics. From this, they are able to provide resources for those being affected, and also those helping to aide the fight to end human trafficking. The founder of Radiant has a beautiful story (which you can read about right here) that lead to her starting the company, and I feel their advocacy efforts are truly moving.

A few months ago I re-found my passion for makeup, and the sweet folks at Radiant noticed and offered to send me a few of their products to try out. Today I wanted to feature their Frost Eyeshadow in Penny Lane. Once I read the description of this product, I knew it had to be mine (I have an affinity for anything Penny Lane and loved the color).

I am extremely impressed with the velvety texture of this eyeshadow, the amazing color payoff and the cause behind it. I also love that I can be rocking “beauty with a purpose” any day of the week.

Have you checked out Radiant Cosmetics yet?

5 Things…June 12th

06.12.12

Yesterday I was quite inspired by a five things post that Emma had up on her blog, so I thought I would follow in her foot steps and write down my own little five things so I could share a few thoughts that have been on my mind lately with you all.
1. Currently enjoying: Regina Spektor’s new album, What we Saw from the Cheap Seats. I’m always in awe of her voice and her overall quirkiness.
2. Planning to buy: a few makeup/skincare products that have been on my mind lately. In the past few months I have re-found my passion for makeup (I LOVED it when I was a teenager), and lately I’ve been getting really into skincare. I can watch hours upon hours of Beauty YouTubers and love learning about everyone’s favorite products and new techniques.
3. Wanting to drink: So many iced coffees. Today I started my day with hot coffee and it just doesn’t feel right. I used to make my own cold brew, and I think it would be a good idea if I started that again. Does anyone make their own cold brew?
4. Currently reading: The Happiness Project. I’ve heard so many positive thoughts on this book and I’m quite enjoying it so far.
5. Goal for the week: Take a handful of outfit photos! I’ve been a little behind in the outfit photo department (missing my photographer big time), so this week I really want to try hard and bang a few out on my own. Sometimes it can get a little tricky taking them in an unfamiliar town, but I’ve got this!
Feel free to make your own five things post and please leave the link below! I would love to read them!
