Surprise Birthday Dinner

05.20.12

I wanted to share one last bit of my birthday. That evening I had dinner plans with Scott, my grandmother, my cousin Odessa, and Courtney. We arrived around 7:30, and waited outside for everyone to get there. Once we spotted Courtney, we headed inside Liberty Market.

My lovely cousin, Odessa, and I.
Once inside I was greeted by a table full of familiar faces, all my pals from The Phoenix Style Collective (Kara, Katherine, and Josh). I was absolutely stunned to see them all there. Never in my life has someone been able to pull such a surprise on me, and I just couldn’t believe that they had planned the whole thing out without me knowing. To say I was happy would be a major understatement. I was overwhelmingly thrilled to have my sweet friends there with me to celebrate my birthday.

They all signed the sweetest card for me. It may have brought a little tear to my eye.
There was also a few presents involved (which they totally shouldn’t have!), one being this amazing locally handmade ring from The GrowOP.
Being surprise by my love and friends and family was honestly one of the most amazing feelings. I am so thankful to have such sweet, and thoughtful people in my life. I truly had an amazing birthday and will never forget this wonderful surprise. Here’s to an amazing 24th year!

Citrus Row

05.19.12

Lately I’ve been really trying to take fully in every moment I possibly can. Over the summer I’ll be spending some time in Colorado, and unfortunately won’t get to haunt my favorite places and spend time with my honey. Lately my time has been all about savoring, and also cherishing each moment I get in this beautiful city I call home.

I’ve tried not to be too silently lately, but there has been times where I just want to disconnect for a bit and focus on the now. I feel like many people can relate to this, as summer usually brings about change in one way or another. Once I get to Colorado I will still be up to my old tricks, but you may see my wardrobe change a bit. Usually when I get up there it’s still a bit chilly and I tend to be drawn to my fall and winter wardrobe, rather than my spring and summer one. Last summer it snowed in June while I was there! This year I’m hoping for not so much of a drastic weather change, and hope to photograph some beautiful places.
On another note, how darling are these Ugglebo Clogs?I adore the perferated leather, and the high heel! Have you checked out Ugglebo’s spring/summer collection lately? They have some really darling sandals that would make a great spring/summer wardrobe staple!
And this guy, he makes my heart melt and treats me like a princess. Being away from Scott is incredibly hard, but we always make it work. Can you believe we’ve been together for over 5 1/2 years! Geeez! Loving him is easy though, what can I say.

Bagel Obsessed

05.17.12

I’ve always really loved bagels, but lately I’ve been obsessed with them. My favorite is a whole wheat bagel topped with peanut butter, and sometimes I like to add a little honey. Scott is also a fan of the peanut butter bagel, but lately he has been really loving an egg and cheese bagel sandwich. Do you have a favorite bagel combo?

Birthday Breakfast at Joe’s

05.16.12
If you’re local you may know about the birthday trifecta special, which means you get a free meal (up to $10) at Liberty Market, Joe’s Real BBQ, and Joe’s Real Farm Grill. For the past few years I’ve spent my birthday dinners at Liberty, but this year I thought I would also go out to Joe’s Real Farm Grill and enjoy a yummy breakfast with my sweetheart.
Scott and I both got waffles, and iced coffee from The Coffee Shop right down the way from Joe’s. Scott got his waffle with sausage, and I got fresh fruit on mine. It would be a lie if I said I didn’t eat every single bite of that delicious waffle. Thanks for a great birthday breakfast, Joe’s!
Do you have a favorite place that you like to go out to breakfast at on you birthday?

Sneak Peek: Photoshoot with Arrow & Apple

05.15.12

Recently Scott and I had a photoshoot with our sweet friend Sarah of Arrow & Apple in downtown Phoenix. We’ve been really blessed and have had our photos taken twice now by Sarah (the first time was a scouting session and you can see some of those photos right here).
In all honesty, Sarah has this amazing magical touch that really makes a couple feel comfortable and connected to one another during their photo session with her. On a few occasions Sarah has explained to Scott and I that she feels it’s very important to get to know the couple she is photographing prior to their shoot so that they all feel comfortable together. I am positive that this extra step makes such a difference.
I know Sarah has some availability this spring/summer for engagement photos, couples photos, and wedding photography. So if you’re local (or even not, she loves to travel!), I would shoot Sarah an email and book a session with her. Her magical touch is sure to create amazing photos that you and your loved ones will treasure forever.

Birthday Attire

05.14.12

For my birthday this year I treated myself to a pretty Madewell dress that I had been eyeing even before our local Madewell had opened. It was a special day, and I wanted to wear something special. I might have also purchased this dress because it reminds me a little bit of Beetlejuice (which came out the year I was born!), and I love it for that.

Scott was such a sweetheart to me the whole day, and he looked extra cute in his red denim button-up.

My birthday involved lots of coffee (these iced coffees were from The Coffee Shop), and I wouldn’t have had it any other way!
I layered up my arm candy for the day with some of my very favorite bracelets, and a brand new one (the one with the pink diamonds) that was a birthday gift from my sweet grandmother.
May 2nd was also an extra special day because it was Scott’s four year anniversary of working at Home Depot (that’s right, he started his very first day of training on my birthday many moons ago). Congratulations, honey, I am SO proud of you!

Record Collecting

05.13.12

For years and years I’ve searched high and low in every record shop I’ve ever been into to find any of the Stars albums. This past Christmas Scott surprised me with an entire collection of Stars records. When I saw them (especially the Japan version of Set Yourself of Fire) I couldn’t believe my eyes. So thank you my love for making my dream record collection come true.
Do you have a favorite record, or one that you’re always on the hunt for?

Down In The Alleyway

05.11.12

I often struggle with the idea of myself being either a morning person, or a night owl. I love a good, early morning spent sipping on coffee, going out for breakfast, and getting a jump start on my day. However, I’m also quite fond of staying up way too late reading through blogs, watching ridiculous television, and finishing up anything I didn’t get to earlier in the day (I also may think about life and the future WAY too much during these obscene hours). I suppose over time this will change, but for now sleep schedule is in a constant state of disarray. Anyone else a poor sleeper? Any suggestions for getting back on a decent sleeping schedule?

On another note, this is my ultimate go-to outfit. Give me a light cardigan, white shirt, dark denim, and a fun purse and pair of shoes and I’m set. Over the past few years I’ve realized how important it is to invest in great staples, and splurge a little less on garments that might see less of a rotation in my wardrobe. Levi’s is usually my go-to store for stocking up on garment staples, but lately Madewell has really been giving my old favorite a run for their money.
Ok, I’m ready to go start my day with a whole wheat bagel + peanut butter, and an iced coffee. What do you guys have planned for this beautiful day? Anyone going on a movie date? I really want to see The Five Year Engagement and Dark Shadows!

Sunset Wall

05.10.12

Arizona is known for having some of the most beautiful sunsets in the word. Sometimes it can look like the sky is on fire, other times the most beautiful pastel colors paint the sky. I’ve always been terribly found of our sunsets, and have to say that I haven’t seen many other sunset that compare. This pretty wall Scott and I spotted while out on a walk recently reminds me of the beautiful copper tones the sky can turn once the sun starts to set. I swear, nothing is better than an Arizona sunset.

Lately I’ve really been into light and airy looks. That may sound like a no brainer for spring and summer, but usually I have such a hard time putting away my fall and winter colors once the warmer months start coming around. What can I say, I’m a fall girl at heart. However, I am really loving these creamy Roxy jeans (whoever thought I would wear white jeans? certainly not me!), and this pretty birdie top from Lulus.
This afternoon Scott and I are introducing our sweet friend Sarah to Urban Cookies! Last night I had a pistachio, lemon, raspberry filled cupcake that was to die for! Can’t wait to see what they have in stock today!
