The Coffee Shop’s Sweet Treats

02.24.11
So I already told you that Scott and I grabbed some sweet treats from The Coffee Shop, but I didn’t tell you what we got! That day they had so many goodies out, and I was so tempted to get not one, but two treats. However, I came to my senses and only got a lemon whoopie pie. Scott also got a berry coffee cake, and we shared a pomegranate iced tea.

Both Scott and I really enjoyed our treats. My lemon whoopie pie was amazing! I absolutely love anything with a lemon flavoring, and was so happy that they had a lemon treat out.
Our view from inside The Coffee Shop.
The Coffee Shops is one of my most favorite coffee and sweet shops in the Valley and I only wished I lived closer. I would be there every morning for a yummy latte and a scone before class.
What’s your favorite coffee shop? What about sweet shop? Know of any good ones in Arizona?

Agritopia Farm Stand

02.24.11
Farms in the city are few and far between, but sometimes it’s since to go out to Gilbert and vist the Agritopia development where they have a farm stand, The Coffee Shop, and Joe’s Farm Grill. Not too long ago Scott and I decided to stop at The Coffee Shop for a sweet treat, and thought it would be nice to check out the Agritopia farm stand while we were there.

Lately the sun has been warm and I have found myself yearning to travel to a small town to enjoy a nice walk, shopping time in cute boutiques, and lunch at an amazing sandwich shop. I have been thinking that a small town in Colorado, Steamboat Springs, would be perfect. It is one of my favorite towns in Colorado, and somewhere I’ve spent quite a bit of time in. If only I could take a jet plane there for the day!

Citrus is in an abundance here in Arizona, and I just love when all the citrus trees are in season. Last year Scott and I went venturing around an orange grove near where I went to high school. We didn’t take any oranges, but I was so tempted to pick a juicy orange off the tree. My absolute favorite farm though, Schnepf Farms, has peach trees and last year Scott and I went and picked peaches. I’m hoping that this year we have time to do that again.
Life lately has been busy. Last weekend was my cousin’s wedding, and this week I am getting ready to start study for mid-terms, and continually working on some writing projects. I still can hardly believe that it’s almost March! Where has the semester gone? Pretty soon I’m going to be wearing a cap and gown, Anthropologie dress underneath, and walking the line to get my diploma! WOW! For the last year I have been saying I want a pretty dress from Anthro to rock on graduation day. I guess it’s time to start the hunt!

Do you have many farms in your area? What kind of fruit is produced in your area?

Odessa & Tony’s Rehearsal Dinner

02.24.11
Last week before Tony and Odessa’s wedding we had a rehearsal at the venue, and also the rehearsal dinner at Bucca di Beppo. The walk through at the venue went really well, and was actually pretty fun. We all had to work on how fast we were walking, and how slow we should go down the aisle during the actual wedding. Afterward we all met at the restaurant and had a huge family sized Italian dinner in the pope room with the entire wedding party, cousins, parents, siblings, significant others, and the cutest little niece I ever did see.
Here is my cousin Odessa, her now husband Tony in his tuxedo shirt, and their little cousin Rebecca.
The bride to be and and her mom, my Aunt Evelyn.
For dinner we had caprese salad, caesar salad, pizza, eggplant parmesan, spaghetti and meatballs, lemon glazed chicken, and a white sauced pasta with vegetables. Oh, and plenty of bread!

There were lots of toast that night for the happy couple!

My handsome date for the evening!
For dessert we all shared a sampler plate. The apple pie and tiramisu was my favorite!
Myself and the bride-to-be with in her pretty white dress and faux veil with feathers.

And of course my cousin and aunt, being super sweet as as always. I just love these two so much and I’m so thankful that they are in my life.

Promise to share more from the wedding soon! Congrats again to Tony and Odessa!

Watson’s Flowers

02.23.11
Growing up I always passed this little old flower shop that had an amazing vintage sign, and the wear and the tear on the outside to prove it had been opened since 1927. Since spring is in the air (it’s been in the 70’s here!), Scott and I thought it would be fun to make a stop there to admire the quaint building and their pretty flowers.
Dress: Nordstrom’s Rack; Black microfiber tights: c/o We Love Colors; Boots: Steve Madden
Cardigan: Banana Republic; Button shirt: Vintage/was my dad’s; Jeans: Levi’s; Shoes: Sperry’s
Growing up I always adored this little flower shop, Watson’s to be exact, and always went there when I was in need of flowers for a special occasion. I definitely got my prom corsage there. For Valentine’s Day Scott bought me my pretty sunflowers from there. I really love the ideas of buying flowers locally, and it’s just a bonus that the shop is so cute.
Since winter isn’t officially over I’m still holding onto dark winter looks, even though my outfit had no sleeves and I didn’t have a cardigan on. However, I feel like dark colors are really just a part of my personal style and something I wear all year long. In the spring though it is fun to bring in some lighter colors for good measure.
These shoes were an amazing score at Last Chance! Blue (er, greyish) suede shoes baby!

For spring I would love to make a few light colored purchases. I’ve been dreaming about making some vintage purchases at Mercantile and Butter Toast Boutique. I see some bright prints and colors in my near future!

What’s your favorite flower shop? What’s your favorite flower?

The Blue Balloon Etsy shop – “First, I am mama bee (Marie) to a beautiful baby boy, born New Year’s Day 2010. Shortly prior to his birth, I discovered a new found love for creating jewelry and other pretty wearables. I can’t confine myself to just one medium when it comes to my jewelry- I find myself creating pieces using anything from my own tiny photographs to scraps of brass tubing, to natural specimens to pretty beads. A common recurring adjective I hear regarding my pieces and my shop is nostalgic; I love that, and take it as a compliment. In addition to trinket making, I also enjoy dabbling a bit in the world of papery goods, using original photographs, stamps and my gocco press.”

An interview with Robyn of Twitch Vintage

02.22.11

Today we have a lovely interview with Robyn of Twitch Vintage. Robyn is an amazingly sweet lady with a huge heart for vintage clothing, and a passion for making it accessible to people all over with her very successful Ebay store.

Meet Robyn:

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

-Oh hello there, my name is Robyn. I live in central Florida, have a BA in statistics, enjoy high fiving strangers, and suffer from mild addictions to sunscreen and DR Pepper Lipsmacker.

2. What got you interested in blogging, and how long have you been blogging for?

-I started blogging January 1st 2010. It was the only new year’s resolution I have ever kept, and if you were here you would have caught me patting myself on the back. I mostly started to promote my eBay shop, and to get to know people with personal styles that I admired.

3. Can you tell us about your style?

-I will wear just about anything vintage that is my size. However, I tend to gravitate toward pretty 70s pieces and nerdy high waisted 80s looks. I am currently seeking a happy medium between the two.

4. Vintage is a huge part of your life. How did you get interested in wearing vintage, and how do you find such great pieces?

-I spent most of college as a thrift store addict. That is when I developed a love of all things vintage, and generally the goldmine that is second hand merchandise (vintage or not.) I still find 90% of my wardrobe and home wares in everyday thrift shops (salvation army, goodwill, etc).

5. What are your favorite trends for spring?

-I’m loving all the 70s prints, maxis, and sheer layers.

6. When you’re not busy blogging, what can you be found doing?

-Sleeping, cleaning, drinking with friends, shopping, reading, sleeping more, and perusing the internets. I am surprisingly inactive in these recent winter months, and my poor bike looks sad and neglected in the corner of my sun room. I am hoping to play outside more now that the weather has taken a turn for the warm.

7. With regards to fashion, what do you draw inspiration from?

-Now it is mostly from other bloggers. I have never been afraid to ask girls out in public where they got their shoes, rings, blouse, etc. With blogging I don’t even have to ask, and I kind of love that. Bloggers also gives me the courage to try looks and color combinations that are not common in my small town.

8. If you had to pick one outfit to wear the rest of your life, what would it look like?

-Cream colored vintage blouse, black mini skirt, ankle boots, a handful of rings (preferably silver), optional ankle socks and a draped cardigan… I’m assuming the rest of my life will have different temperatures and I would like to be prepared. And a small shoulder bag, probably in charcoal.

9. You run a very successful Ebay store, Twitch Vintage, as well as blog regularly and keep an every day life. How do you find balance between everything?

-Haha. My boyfriend will be the first to tell you there is no balance. Some weeks if he didn’t force me to back away from my work, there is no way I would stop. I honestly credit him and my friends with helping me find balance. They force time off on me, and I am very grateful for that.

10. Do you have any advice for aspiring fashion bloggers? What about someone that wants to incorporate vintage into their wardrobe, but is slightly afraid to?

-I read a lot of “only blog when you are truly inspired” advice, and I have never agreed with it. Want to be a blogger? Then blog. Just keep posting. If it is really what you want to do, then suck it up and do it. I honestly treated blogging like a job for months before I found my own rhythm and style, but I am so glad that I kind of forced myself into it until I reached that place… That reads way more bossy than motivational, but I am okay with that.

As for vintage, everyone should at least try it at least once. I’m not saying you have to buy a mod mini dress, go go boots, and vintage accessories. Try mixing vintage blouses and skirts with modern pieces as an easier way to start.

Thank you so much Robyn for doing this interview with me! Please don’t forget to check out Robyn’s inspiring blog, and also her Ebay shop for some extra pretty, and one-of-a-kind vintage clothing.

Cloudy Afternoon

02.21.11
I know I talk about the weather a lot, but geez has it very been temperamental lately. Just the other day it was sunny and warm, and this weekend it was full on down pour. Beforehand it made for some extra pretty weather, full of clouds and chilly moments.
Knit hat: Forever 21; Cardigan: Frenchi; Scarf: Forever 21; Vneck: c/o Five Bamboo; Bambracelet: c/o Five Bamboo; Jeans: Levi’s; Boots: Steve Madden
On Friday I spent the afternoon with Scott on the Tempe campus, working on homework while he was in class. Afterward we took a nice stroll through campus on our bicycles. The weather was chilly, and for a minute I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to make the ride back to the truck (I was chilled to the bone from sitting outside while he was in class), but we ended up making it and made a stop on the lawn in front of Old Main along the way.
This outfit is the perfect overcast day look to me. I absolutely love being bundled up on a cloudy day in Arizona. The only thing that would have made it more perfect is if I had a nice hot latte or cappuccino, preferably from Cartel Coffee Lab since I’ve been craving their coffee lately.
I know it’s hard to see, but you can kind of see the gorgeous necklace that my cousin Odessa and her husband Tony gave me for being in their wedding. It is a beautiful heart, and it was so incredibly thoughtful of them to give it to me. I just love them both so much.
The crew over at Five Bamboo, an awesome company out of Seattle, WA, was kind enough to send me this amazing vneck t-shirt made out of Nomo Clean Bamboo. When I received this shirt I was pleasantly surprised at how soft it was compared to a normal cotton t-shirt. It also has great stretch, and was definitely cozy on a chilly day. I really loved reading the tag that came on the shirt that stated the benefits of clean bamboo. Seriously such a cool fiber to make clothing out of, and it’s environmentally sustainable too!

They also sent me this sweet bambracelet, along with a few others that I shared with Scott. They are made out of t-shirt scraps and have a few pretty beads on them. I seriously love a good wrap around bracelet!

A big thanks is to due to my guy for taking such pretty pictures and taking care of me when I’m cold. He got a haircut the other day (and more recently shaved his beard), and is looking awfully dapper!
Do you enjoy cloudy days? I always feel like I’m in Seattle when we have them here and I just love it!

Yogurtland Date

02.20.11
One of Scott and I’s favorite treats is frozen Yogurt. One of our favorite frozen yogurt shops, Yogurtland, has the best flavors and toppings in town. Every time we go our eyes are usually bigger than our stomachs. That’s ok though, we do enjoy a nice sweet treat.

Scott had a mix of cheesecake and vanilla with graham cracker on top. I have coconut, pistachio, and coconut with some fresh strawberries.

We both really enjoyed our froyo combinations and I already can’t wait until we go back.
Do you like frozen yogurt? What do you like to mix?
