I just wanted to say…

I have THE most amazing man in my life, and I am incredibly thankful for his love and support. I can’t believe we’re already approaching five years! Time really has flown by!
(sorry for the PDA, but I just couldn’t help it)
Love you John Scott,

Flagstaff Fairgrounds

01.07.11
While in Flagstaff I had a bit of an outfit change. I had been dying to wear a similar outfit while in Colorado, but ran out of town. I really felt this outfit was worthy of snow, and I’m glad that while we were in Flagstaff we got to pull over in the local fairgrounds and take more photos in their pretty landscape.
Since it was 30 or so degrees out, the coat was necessary for the trek over to this part of the field. However, the sun was warming the area and after only a few minutes and I decided to take it off to show off the rest of my outfit.

Green jacket: Old Navy; cardigan: J Crew; white top: Eddie Bauer; wool skirt: Gap; gloves: Nordstroms; lurex glitter tights in gold: c/o We Love Colors; boots: Steve Madden

I’ve been trying to wear these tights for quite some time now. They are a bit flashy, but in a good way. I knew I needed to wear them with solid colors so that they would be the shining piece (no pun intended). I feel they are definitely a conversation starter, and I will for sure be wearing them again, because what girl couldn’t use a little glitter in her life.

The area that Scott and I took these photos in was absolutely stunning. I come here usually once a year in September when fall is just starting to settle in and it’s absolutely beautiful. All the pine trees make me swoon, and I’ve decided that the area looks even better during winter, even though the roads were a little slick (and the parking lots was full of snow).

Yesterday was such a busy day for Scott and I. We got loads done for the approaching semester, including getting Scott his ASU Id card (hooray!), and also were finally able to use our gym membership that we’ve been neglecting due to those busy schedules we had last semester.
Today we don’t have much plan, other than seeing Country Strong. What are you up to today?

Lunch at Macy’s

01.06.11

While in Flagstaff Scott and I went on a lunch date to Macy’s vegetarian restaurant. For years I’ve heard about Macy’s, and how amazing their food is. So when we decided that we were actually going to Flagstaff, we knew we had to eat at Macy’s.

Look at all the snow! It was in the thirty’s and windy this day!

Macy’s is not only famous for their food, but for their coffee and vegan pastries as well. Scott and I figured that since we were already there, we had to indulge in both as a lunch starter.

Macy’s is a pretty tiny place, and most of the sitting was pretty full this afternoon. We were pretty lucky though to grab a nice table by the window.
We got a cranberry almond scone, and a regular cup of coffee. Both were delicious, and definitely lived up to all the hype.
For lunch we both had the special, grilled cheese and creamy tomato soup.

This meal was by far the best grilled cheese and tomato soup combo we both have ever had. The bread was thick, and the soup was extra warm and delicious. We both couldn’t put down our sandwiches, and spoons until we were done. We both would definitely recommend this combo to anyone able to visit Macy’s.
It was really neat to finally get to go to a place I’ve heard so much about for so long, and we will definitely be going back next time we are in Flagstaff.

Are you a big grilled cheese and tomato soup fan? I really disliked tomato soup for years, and years, and have only grown to love it over the last three years or so.

Flagstaff Dwelling

01.06.11
While out and about in Flagstaff, Scott and I spotted this beautiful building off an alley way. It’s a little rough around the edges, but I just adore how old it is, and imagine there is a great story behind the building. For those of you who have visited Flagstaff before, it’s right next to the Orpheum theater in downtown.

I’m kind of obsessed with fire escape, and large windows.

Scott also agrees with me, the building definitely has charm to it. We’re both big fan of older architecture, and the fact that the building has lasted so many years just makes it even better.

This morning Scott and I have a breakfast date downtown, followed by a meeting for school and other things that need to be done before the start of the semester.
Do you like older buildings? What are your plans for today?

Flagstaff Wanderings

01.05.11
Yesterday Scott and I went on a very last minute day trip to Flagstaff, Arizona (about two hours north of Phoenix). Every year we go up to see the snow, and to spend a little time away from the city. Flagstaff was recently hit with a snow storm, so we figured we had to go immediately to see it all before it melted.
We took hundreds of photos, and I would like to share a good load of them with you. So expect a handful of posts from our trip to Flagstaff. I first want to start with an outfit post where Scott and I are showing off our “It’s 30 degrees outside and we’re freezing so we’re going to bundle up a ton” look.
Sunglasses: Ray bans; Hot toddy cowl: c/o Spotted Moth; Wool jacket: Banana Republic; Blue cardigan: DC; Floral cardigan: JCrew; White shirt: Eddie Bauer; Jeggings: Levi’s; Boots: Steve Madden
Knit beanie: Gap; Sunglasses: Ray bans; Black jacket: The North Face; wool cardigan: Eddie Bauer; Plaid flannel: Levi’s; Thermal: Not sure; Gloves: Not sure; Pants: Levi’s; Boots: Fossil

These photos were taken during our walk around downtown Flagstaff. The area is so cute, and is filled with boutiques, coffee shops, and restaurants. While wandering around I spotted this amazing, worn out sign painting and just knew that was our spot to take outfit photos for the day. I’ve always been obsessed with these signs, as I feel they really show off the history of the town, and the forgotten past.

Since it was literally freezing Scott and I thought we both needed to wear gloves (something we usually don’t need in Phoenix). It was funny trying to hold hands when I had convertible mittens, and Scott had just regular, cover your whole hand mittens. Needless to say I opted to just put my arm in his.

(The alley we stood on the edge of.)

(Can you see my red nose? It was frozen!)

In our last minute planning I decided to bring my Steve Madden lace-up boots instead of my Uggs that I usually wear in snowy weather. I unfortunately didn’t realize that the these shoes have absolutely no traction until we got there, and I spent most of slipping and sliding around the Flagstaff streets. Oops! Rookie mistake!

Scott and I honestly love Flagstaff, and it was so nice to spend some time together wandering around such a cute town. We loved how snowy it was, and the fact that there were icicles hanging off of buildings every where. It’s really the little things that count.

Have you gone on any day trips recently? Where do you usually go when you do go on them?

Modnique.com Sale!

01.05.11

Recently I was introduced to Modnique.com, a flash sale website similar to Gilt Group and Hautelook.com, that offers 24-72 hour sales where merchandise from amazing companies are marked down 60 percent or more. Currently, they are focusing in women’s clothing and accessories, but are in the process of offering men’s apparel, kids items, home decor pieces, etc.

Modnique.com and I have decided to team up, and I’m happy to be sharing with you one of their current sales going on. Right now Modnique.com is offering 70 percent off select items from Dream Culture. This brand is new to me, but they definitely have quite a few pieces that I think would fit into my personal style easily. I’m kind of in love with this top, and the coat as well.
Modnique.com always seems to have some kind of great sale going on (hello American Apparel), and I definitely will be letting you know sometime again about an awesome sale going on.
Have you ever purchased anything through Modnique.com, or heard of it before?

An interview with Elise of Elise Blaha

01.04.11

Today we have a wonderful interview with Elise of Elise Blaha. Elise is one crafty lady, and makes beautiful things out of paper, pens, and glue. She also has a lovely style, one that I admire very much for its simplicity, and is always posting pictures of something pretty in her home, or in her surrounding San Diego area.

Meet Elise:

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
-I’m 25 and a small business owner in San Diego, California. I married my favorite man in April 2010 and I adored the wedding planning process. I plan on 2011 being our best year yet.
2. I know you recently celebrated your five your blogging anniversary. Congrats! What got you interested in blogging?
-For about a year before I started blogging, I read a lot of blogs – mostly written by “famous” scrapbookers and artists. I loved the idea of keeping a journal and decided to jump in too.
3. Can you tell us about your style?
-I would say I have pretty simple style. I tend to go for solid colors or two color prints – both in my decor and in my clothing. Whenever I buy something new, my husband says “that looks like you” so I guess I have a pretty specific look. I’m impossible to buy for though – I have to pick everything out myself.
4. You seem to have a great love for paper products. Can you tell us how this obsession began?
-I think I was ten when I became interested in scrapbooking. Then after I graduated college, I worked at a paper store for 2.5 years. There I learned so much about invitations and different printing styles and I got even more hooked. It’s so easy these days to get ideas for paper projects – the internet is full of tutorials and great inspiration.
5. What are your favorite trends for winter?
-Scarfs and more scarfs. I love that they keep you warm and can add an extra color or pattern to an outfit. And comfortable brown leather boots are a must. They go with everything.
6. When you’re not busy blogging, or working on items for your shop, what can you be found doing?
-I read a lot. Mostly fiction and beautiful craft books like Handmade Living. And my husband and I are hooked on way too many TV shows. Our favorites are Fringe, Dexter and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
7. With regards to fashion, what do you draw inspiration from?
-I think my biggest inspiration comes from different color mixes. I love pairing new colors and can’t stand anything that is too matchy-matchy. I don’t dress up a lot because I work from home so it’s always fun to shop my closet for different outfits when I’m going out to dinner or headed some where fancy. Also – j.crew and anthropologie are geniuses at layering and cute style. I adore their catalogs.
8. If you had to pick one outfit to wear the rest of your life, what would it look like?
-It would be something lame like jeans and a v-neck tee. Or maybe my wedding dress which I’m still obsessed with.
9. You seem to have a real knack for branding. Could you explain a little bit about your branding process?
-My current branding is the result of me trying to figure out how to explain my job. I came up with a handful of phrases that could be used to answer the question “What do you do?” and then I slapped them on business cards. I think it’s important to share images of your work on your branding materials or provide a clear idea of what potential clients will find once they go to your site. It’s also important to remember that your brand and image can grow and change with your business. It will evolve! You are never locked in to anything.

Also – keep in mind that most free download-able fonts are NOT suitable for your logo or promotional materials. Free fonts are usually for personal use only. It’s better to stick with a basic font or spend some money on a special font to use.

10. Do you have any advice for someone that is new to blogging? What about someone interested in paper products and crafting, but doesn’t know where to start?

-For blogging – Take GOOD photos to illustrate your posts. Post often (at least four times a week). Be sure to always give credit for ideas and images if they are not your own. Be yourself! People want to know the real you behind the blog.

For paper crafting – Consider taking an online workshop in the field that interests you most!

Thank you so much Elise for doing this interview with me! Don’t forget to check out Elise’s blog, and also her shop, Elise Joy, to see more of her lovely paper goods.

Cornish Pasty

01.02.11

The other day Scott and I made our first visit to Cornish Pasty. This restaurant is known for their “adult hot pockets” and English pub feel.

I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but the above picture is probably my most favorite photo of myself. Scott took it while we were waiting for our food to arrive, and I feel it truly shows who I am. Nordic, freckled, and sometimes timid.

The seating in Cornish Pasty was a big scattered, and I know it’s hard to see but the seats here are church pews.

The wait time at the restaurant was a bit ridiculous, and I’m not sure if it was because it was lunch time, or if that is how they always are. Luckily I had some good tea to sip on, and a lovely boyfriend to chat with.

Scott and I each got something different, him the traditional bangers and mash, and me the vegetarian greek.

We both really enjoyed our food, and will be going back to try out their delicious sounding soup. This meal was perfect on a very windy, and chilly day, and if you live in the area I would definitely try it out. I know Kelsey of Roo Fresh could vouch for this statement as well, as her and her husband went there the evening before us.

Have you tried a new restaurant out lately? Or is there one that you really want to but just haven’t had the time to yet?
Scott and I are always looking for new places to try out in the Phoenix Metropolitan area, so if you have any suggestions please feel free to leave them. Thank you in advance!

Bookstore Refuge

01.01.11

Happy 1-1-11 blogging friends. I can’t believe the new year is already here. 2010 seemed to go by fast, but I’m happy that a new year is here and the possibilities for adventures are endless.

Today Scott and I are starting a brand new New Year’s day tradition, and I’m excited to share it with you later. For now though, I have an outfit post.
As some of you may have heard (or experienced yourself) the weather in Phoenix has been frightful. It’s been cold, rainy, and snowy for the past couple of days, such a change from the 70 degree weather we had on Christmas.

Cardigan: DC
Scarf: Forever 21
Shirt: Target
Bag: Coach
Jeggings: Levi’s
Boots: Steve Madden
The other day it was pouring in Phoenix, just pouring, and Scott and I decided to take refuge in a local Barnes & Noble for some book browsing.

Coat: Banana Republic
Sweater: Banana Republic
Shirt: Target
Jeans: Quicksilver
Shoes: Bass

Growing up I went through phases where I would read a bunch, and then not read at all for some time. Nowadays I read when I have time (summers mostly), but still adore going to a bookstore and browsing their selection and picking out something that I hope to read soon. Growing up my dad and I always went to a Borders near my house and we would spend an hour at a time looking at magazines, and books. It’s one of my fondest memories of growing up.
Since it was pouring outside I also opted to wear my raincoat this day. I purchased it this summer when I was in Colorado in May and it was snowing. It’s made by Burton, and technically a snowboard jacket, but it works perfect for rainy days.

What is your favorite section in the bookstore? Do you sit and read magazines, or grab a book and read through parts of it?
