Coffee, sew, crochet, study, repeat!

10.05.09

It’s Sunday evening and I’m sitting at home watching Casper. What are you doing?

Anyways, this morning I got kind of early and went over to Scott’s so we could spend some time together before he went to work all day. He made us coffee (we bought yummy coffee from World Trade Market and have been enjoying it for a couple of weeks now), and I made us oatmeal with bananas. After breakfast I decided to take over our sewing machine. Now, it’s been about a year since I last really worked on a sewing project so I thought I would cut myself a little slack and not feel too bad if I messed up. The result:
It’s a little bag for Scott to wear on his belt to put his phone, keys, wallet, ipod, etc. in when he’s riding is bike. There will eventually be a button closure on the front, and straps on the back so he can slide his belt through. I realized half way into it all the things I should have done differently i.e. sewing so that no seems would be showing. Oh well though, he likes it! :]
After Scott left for work I decided to go visit my friend Gina at her work, Starbucks! Gina was so kind enough to give me a free pumpkin spice latte (THANK YOU GINA!), and we chatted a little bit about Ray bans and coffee mugs until I left to go start my homework.
The drive home was beautiful. I had the windows down, 84 degree weather blowing in my hair, a pumpkin spice latte in my hand, and Stars singing in my ears. I had one of those moments where you just feel infinite and that everything in the world is right. It was a beautiful couple of minutes.
The rest of the morning/afternoon was spent doing mass amounts of homework and playing with my dog.
This evening my grandma and I went to eat at Red Robin. I had my usually, a garden burger, and my stomach definitely felt better afterwards (I was so hungry!).
Tonight I am going to continue to do homework and maybe make a few more of these guys:

I started working on these awhile ago, but just haven’t had the time to make more since I’ve been so busy. Lately it seems there is a granny square epidemic going around! Everyone is making them! I can’t blame them though, they are really cute. All I need is five more and I’ll have an adorable scarf! Oh, and all the  yarn I used is thrifted! Got to love dollar yarn from Goodwill!
Here’s a few silly pictures from the last two days as well:

More craft posts to come in the near future! Promise!

Wondddderful weekend!

10.04.09

I just want to start off by saying that this weekend has been wonderful! Here is the recap:

Friday morning Scott and I had our weekly morning coffee together at Three Roots. Usually we go to Cartel, but lately it’s been so busy there so we decided that Three Roots would be fun to go to for a change. Scott arrived a few minutes before I did and had already ordered. After reviewing the menu for a few moments I decided to have my usually, a regular non-fat latte, and after I ordered the barista told me that a certain young man had already paid for it. All I have to say is that I have the sweetest boyfriend, and that he knows me too well. Anyways, after we got our drinks and sat down I gave Scott the silly stress ball that I had made for him at the Wellness fair at my school on Thursday. He thought it was cute and I decided that it would be fun to play with it while we talked. Turns out that was a bad idea because about fifteen minutes later I ended up with a cup filled with 1/2 latte, and 1/2 stress ball! Oops! Scott did help me clean up the mess I made though and ultimately no harm was done!
The rest of my morning/early afternoon was spent at my internship writing a few bulletins/columns for the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering website. After I was done with my internship at one I headed to Scott’s house where we made a yummy grilled cheese and tomato soup lunch! It was delicous!
A few hours later we decided that it would be fun to bake Scott’s dad cupcakes for his birthday, which is today, and decorate them like monsters/vampires/flowers/silly things. The results:
We had a lot of fun making these, and I even got to wear the lovely apron that my love made for me a few weeks ago! It worked out so well!
After we finished the cupcakes, we drove downtown to First Fridays! For those of you who are not from Phoenix, First Fridays is a local art walk that happens every first friday of every month. Anyways, since we got there a little late the parking was HORRIBLE and we decided to just park in my parking garage for school (for free) and walk the few blocks to where most of the vendors/galleries are on Roosevelt. Lindsay, Brian, and baby Em joined us as well! Scott and I had a lot of fun holding Em and showing him things!

This was probably the best thing we saw all night! Monsters of Folk coming to life on the side wall of an art gallery! I see M. Ward coming along! :]
Around an hour later we all decided to go down to Mill Avenue so that we could walk around Oktoberfest and go to the Mill’s End poetry slam (favvv thing to do on a friday night!).
Overall the night was a lot of fun and I was very, very tired at the end of it.
 On to Saturday:
This morning I woke up bright and early and was down at Gina’s apartment by 8:30. Gina invited me to go to a yoga class with her on campus the night before and I decided that I should give yoga another try (I’ve been a handful of times, but last time I went I had a horrible time and was miserable through it). Anyways, the class ended up being a lot of fun and afterwards we got coffee/tea at Three Roots.
The rest of the morning/early afternoon was spent cleaning/doing homework/getting ready for the day. After Scott got off of work at 2 I headed over to his place. By this time I wasn’t feeling too well so we kind of took it slow for a few hours. We did end up at Scott’s nanas’ house and ate homemade brownies and chit-chatted for a bit.
Tonight we went to Nero’s Gyros and got food to go (mmmm veggie pita!). We also ended up at Target with Lindsay, Brian and baby Em, and at the Chandler mall so that we could go to Forever 21 and Nordstroms. We didn’t end up leaving with anything but we had fun looking.
And now I’m here, severely tired and slightly hungry. Tomorrow will be filled with homework and hopefully some coffee (pumpkin spice please!).
Before I go though I just wanted to say that today I was the lucky winner of this beautiful necklace made by the lovely Jaelynn. This is the second blog giveaway I’ve won this week! I feel so incredibly lucky, and so blessed. Thank you so much to Jaelynn and to Danielle again. I am so excited to finally receive some “happy mail”!
See the beautiful necklace that I won! Ecck! So excited to get it :]
Oh, and I think everyone should check out Jaelynn’s adorable blog and etsy shop! She’s really into estate sales and vintage finds and her blog posts are always so cute/inspiring!
Ok, time for bed!

Thursday nights are made for English Breakfast tea and warm sweaters.

09.25.09

Here I am, in my favorite coffee shop (The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf) sipping hot English Breakfast tea and taking a break from my studies. I’m currently working on a whole list of things to do for school i.e. murder story for JMC 201, a poetry analysis of a poem by Adrienne Rich for ENG 204, but that’s not where what I’m here to talk about. I have lovely thoughts, pictures, and stories to share!

To start off, I just want to say that today was one of those days where I  just thought about how happy I am that my major is journalism, and how I  know it is for me. In high school I struggled with what I “wanted to do when I grew up”, even though I always knew I wanted to be a writer, but never thought it was actually a possibility. Here I am though, in my fourth year of college and writing articles for school and my internship almost every day.
I know everyone says this is a tough degree to get, but I know it will be so worth it in the end. I was given the ability to write well for a reason.
Anyways, on to other things that are floating around in my mind. Last week Scott started using the old, but wonderful, sewing machine that his nana gave to him and two years ago. Since then he has surprised me with a lovely bag that he made out of his two favorite shirts (they were a little worn out so he felt he could part with them and turn them into something new for me), and an amazing apron out of this vintage sheet set that we bought at Goodwill Monday night. He’s really getting good at sewing and is currently working on a other projects, but I can’t wait to get my hands on the sewing machine so I can make something for him (I already have something in mind, and all the fabric cut out, I just need some alone time with the machine).
Here are a few pictures of the bag (very blurry and dark. Sorry!), and the amazing apron along with the crochet slouchy beret that i just finished making a few nights ago:
I will take a better picture of it and post it soon!
It has four pockets, one being for pens!
Back detail! The straps are made out of leftover fabric from ikea curtains.
Crochet detail!
Scott had to be involved in the photo taking fun! He’s just so cute!
This week has been pretty great! All my classes are going well, and my internship is going great. On Wednesday they had a “Dogs (and Cat) Days of Summer” party and they had had yummy cupcakes that looked like puppy dogs! I’ve already had two things published on the Ira. A Fulton Schools of Engineering website and I have many more to come!
Tomorrow Scott and I are going to have our weekly morning coffee at Cartel, and then I will be at my internship until one. Hopefully tomorrow night we will go to the Mill’s End poetry slam (3rd week in a row!) and maybe get some froyo.
Oh, and did I mention that Scott and I picked up “Daisy” by Brand New last night at Best Buy! I have been waiting for this CD since 2006 and am happy that they finally put out some new music. Brand New has been one of my favorite bands since early high school days, and will forever have a place in my heart. If you haven’t checked out their new CD I highly suggest you either go pick it up at your local record store, or listen to it in its entirety on their myspace.
For now I will leave you with a few images that I have found just adorable lately:
GINA if you’re reading this, you should show Elizabeth this picture. When I found it I instantly thought of her. She knows why :]
I love my sweeeetie pie!
Owls are just so darn cute!
I’m in love with this quote, anybody know where it came from?
Hope everyone is having a lovely Thursday night!

Quick hello!

09.23.09

The last week has been super busy, but super fun at the same time! My weekends have been amazing (bike rides along Tempe Beach park, Mill’s End poetry slam, hang time with my love and friends, and cool weather FINALLY!) and my week days just as good!

Today is the first day of fall, and I couldn’t be happier! I started my morning by taking a new route to school. Even with all the traffic lights I made it to school 15ish minutes earlier than I usually do and had time to grab a tall skinny vanilla latte before class (morning coffee to ring in fall? yes, please!). Anyways, all my classes went well, and I had lunch in the student center and got some homework done.
After school I came home and starting working on a poetry analysis and had a little snack. Around 6 p.m. I headed over to Scott’s so we could drive together to Brian and Lindsay’s, so that we could all drive together to Qdoba where we had dinner (buy one get one free!). After dinner we spent some time at a Goodwill and Scott and I ended up leaving with a set of vintage flower print sheets, and a bag of yarn (burnt sienna and white!).
Now I’m at home and need to go to sleep. Tomorrow I have class in the morning, and then my internship until four. More blogging to come soon (tomorrow perhaps?). For now I leave you with these photos:

Blasting “Daisy” by Brand New….

09.17.09

Recap of the last few days:

Friday Scott and I hung out, spent a little time at Lindsay’s and Brians, switched vehicles with them so they could take Scott’s Pilot to Cali, went to the Mill’s End poetry slam (so much fun!), and then back home for the both of us.
Saturday morning Scott and I went on a walk around South Mountain. There was a lovely breeze and it wasn’t blistering hot outside for once. We are both very much looking forward to more walks in the near future.
Saturday night Gina and I hung out and went to eat at Pita Jungle. After dinner we spent some time music swapping/internet browsing. I ended up with A Fine Frenzy’s new album Bomb in a birdcage, which is absolutely amazing and I can’t stop listening to it (thanks Gina), and I was introduced to this silly/addicting video by Cobra Starship (thanks again Gina):
Sunday I was able to spend a little time with Scott before he went to work. We went to the Coffee buzz and had coffee and shared a yummy bagel (tomatoes, pesto, and cream cheese!). Later that afternoon Gina and I walked from her apartment to Cartel and enjoyed some delicious iced teas. I also tried to teach Gina how to crochet, and she definitely got the hang of it! I’m so excited for her to start crocheting so we can have crochet, and knitting parties together!
Monday I had my one class, and then I went over to Scott’s so we could do a little grocery shopping for dinner. We also picked up Scott’s truck from Brian and Lindsay’s and made a Michael’s run and found a million different things we wanted to buy but didn’t have the money to spend on ($20 stamps, oh my!).
Yesterday was my long day at school, and I got to spend a little time with Scott before he went to work. The rest of the day was spent concentrating on the mass amount of homework that I had.
Today I had my one class in the morning, and then I hit up the Starbucks in Taylor Place for a grand skinny vanilla latte before I headed out to Tempe for my internship. Today was my second day there and everything went really well. I got all my emails sent out, and even got started on a few writing assignments. I’m starting to get the know the staff there better, and becoming more comfortable in my work atmosphere. Even though it’s only been two days, I’m already starting to feel like I really belong there.
Tomorrow is my long day at school, and afterwards Scott and I are going to spend some time together. We also might be going on a bike ride with Brian, Lindsay, and baby Em.
Friday I really want to go to Mill’s End poetry slam and work on a few crafts.

I will leave you with a few inspirational photos, and a few of  my own from the last week or two…
Bike ride!
The godfather and his godson (in almost matching flannel shirts! so cute!)
Using the mini-tripod Scott gave me for Christmas.
Scott and I’s three year anniversary is coming up next month and I’ve told him all I want is for someone to take pictures of us together. I’ve been browsing a few blogs lately and have come across these lovely photos and would love to re-create some of them. This is the style I’m going for…
(This is similar to a photo I took of Scott and I about two years ago.)

Ps
Is it Fall yet? I’m waiting every so impatiently!

New followers! Yay!

09.11.09

The past week has been slightly busy, so I haven’t had much time to blog, but here I am now and ready to tell you all about my fun filled weekend in Flagstaff and all the goodness that has happened so far this week. Also, I noticed that recently I’ve acquired a few new followers and just wanted to say hi to everyone and say thanks for reading.

Anyways, on to the stories! Last weekend I drove up to Flagstaff and had the chance to stay with a very old family friend named Katy (I consider her more of a cousin then a friend) at her dorm at Cowden Hall at NAU. Since it was pretty late when we got back to her dorm, around 10 or 10:30, we decided to go to a mini grocery store/sandwich and pizza place on campus so that we could get a mini-pizza because after midnight Katy’s meal plan would have expired for the week and she would have been out a “free” meal! After we got pizza we walked back to her dorm and watched a little bit of Zach and Miri (make a porno) and I fell fast asleep in her bed next to the open window with the cool breeze flowing in. However, at 7 a.m. I was rudely awakened by the alarm on my photo (I set it so technically it was my fault) and decided to rest a little bit more before convincing getting to get up so she could give me the campus tour before we had to be else where around 9:30.
Katy gave me a fun-filled tour complete with walks through the woods, sculptures of fries and faces, and ghost stories! Before we had to leave we hit up the Union to get some food, however only the Starbucks was open that early so I got a tall skinny vanilla latte (complete with one free shot of espresso!) which was so, so good that early in the morning!
Anyways, here are a few pictures from Katy and I’s adventure:

On a walk!
South campus! Katy lives on North campus!
In the woods!

Awwwwh bffz for life!

In Katy’s dorm!
While I was also in Flagstaff I got to hang out with my friend Lauren whom I haven’t seen in years, literally. It was so nice to be able to catch up with her and look at her shiny engagement ring!
Hopefully next month Scott and I will be able to go back up to Flagstaff to spend more time with Katy and Lauren. I absolutely love the weather up there and NAU seems like such a fun place to be. I can’t wait for more adventures up there!
This week has gone by pretty fast, as it was an extra short school week for me, classes Tuesday through Thursday. Yesterday I did have a meeting with someone in the media relations department at the engineering school at ASU about an internship, and I was offered the job! The internship is a writing internship and I will be writing things that will be posted on the ASU website and in other sources of media through ASU. I start tomorrow and I will be working two days a week, eight hours a week so and all the work I do will be done there so it won’t really affect my work load for school. I’m very excited to start, but also very nervous at the same time.
I must also mention how wonderful today was. My amazing boyfriend was at my school downtown before I even got out of class and dropped my bike off for me behind the building was in and met me there so we could go on a bike ride/lunch date together during my lunch break for school. We decided to bike down to The Welcome Diner but were very dissapointed when we saw that it wasn’t opened to. The signage as a little confusing so all I can tell you is that they are open every First Fridays and Third Thursdays. If anyone can clear up there hours for me I would greatly appreciate it.
So since the diner was closed we road our bikes down Roosevelt and ate at The Nile Cafe. I had a yummy falafel sandwich, and Scott had a gyro! Afterwards we got dessert at Krispie Kreme (donuts and coffee!) and enjoyed our time together before I had to go back to class. I hope we have many more lunch dates like that in the future. I also hope Scott knows how much appreciate him and love him and am so thankful to have him in my life<3
Tomorrow morning I’m getting up extra early so Scott and I can have our weekly Friday morning coffee at Cartel before I go to my internship, and then later that evening hopefully we will be going to the poetry slam at Mill’s End in Tempe.
Ok, enough for now! Happy Thursday everyone!
