ROAM ON WITH KEEP IT WILD

06.27.17

Happy Monday, friends! I hope ya’ll are doing well and that you had a wonderful weekend! Scott and I had a pretty low-key one around here, well — after dropping off our first order at the new West Elm Phoenix location, ECK! If you haven’t heard our exciting news yet, you can read all about it here! Aside from that, we did a little plant shopping, some work around the house and caught up on this season’s Southern Charm (my guilty pleasure)! It was a perfect weekend if you ask me!

Anyways, I’ve got some fun news to share — Scott and I are super stoked to be teaming up with our sweet friends at Keep It Wild to style up a few of their awesome t-shirts, like this roam worthy tee that saw us through a fun adventure a few weeks ago! They’re a locally based company run by two sweet couples AND ten percent of their profits go to hosting wilderness cleanups, which is SO rad — so if you’re in the market for a few new tees this summer, be share and have a peek around their website!

Ok ya’ll, I have something to admit — Scott and I tend to match, A LOT! Haha! Like this morning, I pulled out my clothes first and later found Scott wearing a super similar shirt + same color jeans — I guess that just happens when you get married! Anyways, I thought these Roam On tees would be super cute to wear together — they’re not exactly matchy, matchy, but I wouldn’t be mad if we wore them on the same day – kind of like we did here! Alright — I’ll stop being so dorky in three, two…

Scott and I are set to have a pretty busy week around here with getting ready for our big trip (which is coming up quickly — promise, promise to share where we’re headed to soon), and celebrating the opening of the new West Elm store! Oh, and how is next week already the 4th of July? Do you guys have any plans? We’re hoping to celebrate the big day somewhere much, much cooler — we will see!

What’s everyone’s week look like? Beating the heat with ALL the iced coffee? If so, I feel ya! Anyways, I’ll be be back soon, friends! Here’s to a great one!

Starting Wednesday, you can find select Citizen Home Decor handmade goods in the West Elm Local section at the new Phoenix location (at Uptown Plaza)! This is a huge honor and I am SO proud of my sweet husband! Scott and I look forward to seeing ya’ll there! Happy Sunday, friends!

CAPTURE YOUR LOVE

06.23.17

Happy Thursday, friends! I’m back tonight to share a few more photos from our spring shoot with our rad friend Dawn (who we met in Portland this past January)! Dawn recently sent us a beautiful gallery full of the most special moments – in the desert, at home, by the Salt River — everywhere we love! Scott, Dawn and I did a full tour of Phoenix while she was here, and to say that we had a bit of fun would be an understatement! Anyways, I couldn’t help but share just a few more (for now, at least)! I’m still so obsessed with the orange glow of the desert photos, and how perfectly Dawn captured our love in our tiny home!

I feel like I truly can’t say this enough, but don’t ever, ever underestimate the joy of having photos taken with your loved ones! It’s true what they say — a photo is worth a thousand words (plus more, in my opinion)! Have fun with them — dance, relax in your home, hold your furry pets. It’s all about capturing those moments in time that seem to go by in the blink of an eye!

Thank you SO much to Dawn for capturing these moments + making Scott and I look REAL cool! 😉 // 10 1/2 years later and I still get all googly eyed looking at cute photos of this boy! If only you could see the first few photos I saw of him — picture lots of stripes and the lankiest, brown-haired boy you ever did see! Here’s to love! And capturing your love, friends!

WARMIN’ UP

06.21.17

Ya’ll, summer is officially here and yesterday was the fourth hottest day on record in Phoenix! Say WHAT! It’s crazy to believe, but the temps have officially hit 119 degrees and there is no cool down in sight (well, not yet at least — but thankfully monsoon season is on its way). Hot temps aside, the past few days have been a bit of a whirlwind with the pop-up shop we had Saturday, the start of a few home updates and Scott being in a major crunch period to finish a big project for a major retail store (promise to share more soon – eck!). All in all, good things have been coming our way lately and we couldn’t feel more blessed! Summer is known as the slow season for many, but I truly don’t see this summer going by slowly at all!

Lately, this look has been my go-to (even in these hot summer temps) – high-waisted skinnies, a sleeveless top, comfy booties and my new favorite rattan bag that has been coming everywhere with me lately! It may not feel like a super summery outfit, but I sure feel good in an outfit like this! I guess that’s what style is all about, though, right? Wearing what makes you feel best and weaving in trends and popular styles as you see fit! Or, at least that’s what I’ve been telling myself lately! 😉 Can anyone else relate? Raise your hands, friends if you hear me!

Madewell Side-Tie Sweater Tank (on sale!)                                                                                       Madewell High-Rise Skinny Jeans                                                                                                    Ellen and James Rattan Bag                                                                                                             CAT Footwear Kersten Booties (c/o)

Do ya’ll have any plans for the rest of the week? Scott and I will be chugging along with our home projects + getting his big project finished up by the end of the week! We don’t really have any other plans yet, but I’m looking forward to just relaxing after a few busy weeks! We do have a few really neat things in the works, though, and I can’t wait to share all that with ya’ll here soon! If you follow me on Instagram, you may have already heard about a recent collab we’re working on with an amazing local brand! If not, take a peek at yesterday’s Insta post here to get a sneak peek! // Be back soon, friends!

MY EVERYDAY SUMMER MAKEUP ROUTINE

06.19.17

With the temperature rising higher and higher here in Phoenix (it’s going to be 120 degrees this week – no joke!), my everyday makeup routine is yet again getting a bit of a shake-up! Rose colored lips, dewy skin and glowy cheeks + cheek bones are my kind of jam this time of year, and recently I pulled out a few favorites, new and old, that will be seeing me well through the rest of the summer season (and let’s be real, probably well into autumn as well because I truly love each one of these products — not just in the summertime). Curious as to what makeup products I’ll be using on the daily these next few months? Here’s the low-down —

Hourglass Blush + Ambient Lighting Powders – Hourglass products have this way of making you looking “lit from within” – if you know what I mean! I’ve almost hit pan on my dim lighting powder, so I’m sure a repurchase will be happening real soon — they truly make the best powders!

Bareminerals Bareskin Perfecting Veil – This perfecting veil has been a staple in my makeup bag for years! It’s the best setting power for keeping the oil + shine away!

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner (in black) – Another old favorite, but you just can’t go wrong with this Stila liquid eyeliner! And yes – I love eyeliner, even in the summertime! It just has a way of bringing so much definition to my eyes!

Glossier Boy Brow (in blonde) – Ya’ll, this product has changed my whole brow routine! It’s easy to use, the perfect color and never makes your eyebrows feel crunchy! Glossier sure knows what they’re doing!

Maybelline Great Lash – I’ve been using this mascara since high school and seem to find myself always going back to it — it’s just an overall great product (and so inexpensive!).

Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon (in amaretto) – These Bite lip crayons are light on the lips and super easy to apply! You’re bound to find one, or two, maybe even three of these crayons in my purse at any given time!

MAC Paint Pot (in painterly) – If I was stranded on a desert island, this would be the one product I would bring with me! I wear it on my eyes everyday (even on very minimal makeup days), but you can use it as a concealer, a primer for your lips — whatever floats your boat, really!

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter (in moonstone) – This may just be my favorite highlighter, EVER! I know that’s a heavy statement, but it’s good – real good, folks!

IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream (in fair) – I’ve been wearing this as my everyday foundation lately and I’ve been loving it! It’s a bit thicker than my Bareminerals Complexion Rescue, but I’m loving the coverage it gives without having it feel too heavy on my skin!

Alright, now it’s your turn to spill the beans! What’s in your summer makeup bag? What products are you loving right now? Favorite blush? Highlighter? Let a gal know!

FOR THE HOME — 04 // FAVORITE SHOPS TO BUY MIRRORS FROM

06.15.17

I have wanted a simple, round mirror for as long as I can remember! Back when Flickr was more of a community, I remember loving every round mirror photo that SCB of 3,191 Miles Apart would post — dreaming of the day that I could take my very own round mirror photos. Well, after years of looking and moving place to place, we finally have a space of our own and coincidentally enough, the perfect round mirror to hang in our home. Call it luck if you may, but everything over the past year has just seem to fall perfectly into place with our little space, and we truly couldn’t feel more grateful! It’s still so hard to believe that we’ve been in our own home for over a year now — seriously, where has the time gone?!

In case you’re on the hunt for your very own “round mirror,” here’s a few of my favorite shops to browse + buy mirrors from —

Do you like to decorate your home with mirrors, or are you more of an art work/photo kind of gal or guy? Do you have a favorite mirror or mirror style in your own home? I’ve been majorly crushing on this hexagon beauty from West Elm for quite some time now, and just might have to make it mine one day soon! Much like with photos, art prints and home decor, don’t forget that the hunt is part of the fun! Take the time to find the piece (or pieces) that are just perfect for you — I promise the wait will be worth it in the end! Also, if you’re in need of an extra dose of inspiration, SCB and MAV of 3,191 Miles Apart are such amazing individuals and truly know how to create a warm and happy home! Anyways, I hope ya’ll are having a great evening, and I’ll be back soon!

OUR SAN DIEGO TRAVEL GUIDE

06.13.17

Our San Diego Travel Guide is here! At the end of last month, Scott and I headed down to the San Diego area to spend some time at the beach and enjoy some cooler weather over the long holiday weekend. This was our first visit in over a year, so it felt like we were stepping into the city with fresh eyes! The drive from Phoenix is around 5’ish hours, so after packing up the car and grabbing a couple of iced coffees — we high-tailed it out of Arizona for a long California weekend!

Memorial Day weekend is a super popular time to visit San Diego, so we knew the beaches + roads could be a bit crazy, but the thought of seeing the ocean and two of our closest friends for a few days subsided any nerves we had about a hectic, holiday weekend. The drive from Phoenix to San Diego also isn’t that bad (we’ve driven it a few times now), so we knew what we were in for! Anyways, 5’ish hours later and we were met with the most beautiful view of the ocean + the chilliest weather we’ve felt in months! To say that we enjoyed our stay in the Golden State would be an understatement, because we truly loved every second of our time there! Curious as to where we shopped, ate, sipped on coffee at and adventured around in? Well, keep up on reading, sweet friends!

COFFEE — This city has so many great coffee shops! Having been to SD before, we had a few coffee shops already on our radar – but it was so fun to ask for suggestions and try a couple of new places this time around.

Lofty Coffee – This sweet shop is my bestie, Courtney’s, favorite and the place where we stopped at most often to get our coffee fill. They have the the best cold brew, and even have an amazing GF breakfast! A major bonus is that they are just a quick walk away from the beach + this pretty pink house that I couldn’t help but take pictures in front of!

Better Buzz Coffee – In all honesty, I wanted to stop at this coffee shop because they have a cute tiled floor (exhibit a, haha), but their coffee proved to be pretty darn good!

Holsem Coffee – This little spot is an old favorite that we’ve visited year after year! They have these amazing coffee sodas that I just can’t seem to stay away from whenever we’re here. Pro tip — get the lemon meringue coffee soda, you won’t regret it!

Communal Coffee – The shop with the famous “Coffee + Flowers” sign! Of course we had to visit it, but we didn’t actual end up trying the coffee (we were a bit over caffeinated at this point), but the shop is sure cute and worth a visit!

EAT — SD is chock full of delicious restaurants and taco shops! From pub style food to tacos, brunch, dessert and more – there is something for everyone!

The Taco Stand – The Taco Stand is the “it” place to eat at in Encinitas and of course was the place that I wanted to try out the most after seeing it on so many different Instagram accounts! The line was long, but the wait wasn’t too crazy. And the guacamole + chips, well – that was my favorite part!

Oscar’s Mexican Seafood – On our first night in town, our besties took us here! They have excellent fish tacos and I hear the wait is never too crazy (even though their other locations outside of Encinitas seem to always be so hopping!)!

Waypoint Public – This place is an old favorite and perfect for when you just want a burger and some fries! It’s also right across the street from Shop Pigment, which makes it the perfect pre or post shopping restaurant!

WANDER — SD is beautiful, peaceful and has so much to see! There are definitely a few places you need to check out, but I swear that just driving or walking around the city is an experience in itself. The beachy kind of lifestyle vibes here are strong, so your bound to see something rad, like a giant surfboard zooming on by wherever you may go!

Moonlight State Beach – This sweet beach won my heart over while we were in Encinitas (the prettiest beach town right outside of SD). It’s just a short walk away from Lofty Coffee and the adorable pink house, and is the perfect place to throw out a blanket and just take in the ocean waves (even on a gloomy day — we know from experience, haha).

Cardiff State Beach – We stopped at this beach a few times during our time in the area and truly couldn’t have loved it more! On a sunny, but very cold afternoon, we pitched our umbrella and laid out on a blanket in the sand. It was SO beautiful and I loved watching all of the surfers as they took on each wave. The parking here is a bit crazy, but if you can snag a street spot then that is the way to go!

Shop Pigment – Oh, Shop Pigment! This is honestly my favorite store in all of San Diego! They have everything darling and cute that you can ever imagine, including lots of Shop Ban.do pieces, Rifle Paper Co., plants of all sorts and all the best home decor. If you’re ever in San Diego, make sure this darling shop is at the very top of your list!

The Walls of Shop Pigment – Ya’ll know I love a good wall, and the walls of Shop Pigment are the most darling things you’ve ever seen! The pink stripes are just so much fun, and their living succulent wall is just as amazing as you imagine it would be!

Balboa Park – The famous Balboa Park is just as unique and amazing as you think it would be! It’s been years and years since I was here last, so being back was like being here for the first time. There’s truly so much to see, including lots of museums, gardens and cultural events. When we first got there, we high-tailed it to the cactus garden — which happened to be right next to the rose garden! Both were SO beautiful and I truly couldn’t get over the colors of all of the roses — these pretty blush and peach toned ones seemed to be my favorite!

Other than the free gardens, Scott and I would definitely suggest checking out the museums (free and paid). They have rotating exhibits, along with permanent collections in both. While there we visited the Timken Museum of Art and the San Diego Museum of Man, both of which were really interesting and a lot of fun to look through! All in all, there is so much to see there (greenhouses, gardens, old school rentable golf carts (haha)) and more — you could seriously spend hours and hours exploring all that Balboa Park has to offer!

STAY — While Scott and I were in SD, we were fortunate enough to stay with our besties (Court + Sanford)! But, SD does have some amazing boutique hotels and AirBNB options! We actually stayed in this guest house a few years back and I LOVED waking up to such an amazing view!

And that’s it — well, for now! I hope you guys enjoyed this travel guide — I had a lot of fun putting it together! If you did, let me know and I’ll keep making them — our Portland Travel Guide is still on my radar! If you’ve been to the San Diego area before and have any suggestions that I missed, I would love to hear them (gotta start planning our next trip!). Thanks in advance for sharing! Oh, and in case you’re wondering — the hat and jacket that I rocked basically the whole trip are from Madewell and Cuyana, and I couldn’t recommend both of them more for all of your summer adventures! Be back soon, friends!

GERONIMO BALLOONS X DAVID WRIGHT HOUSE

06.12.17

Happy Sunday, sweet friends! I hope ya’ll had a wonderful weekend and that you’re enjoying a nice, chill evening! Scott and I had a super busy weekend with the Pineapple Triangle Market in downtown Phoenix yesterday (which was so awesome!), and today has been super productive in terms of all things life-admin – grocery shopping, laundry, refilling our Peixoto Coffee iced coffee growler — it’s been a good one! Anyways, I wanted to stop by just for a few quick minutes to share these fun photos that we snapped on Thursday at the David Wright House in Phoenix!

The David (and Gladys) Wright House is a very special place! The concrete house was designed and built by Frank Lloyd Wright for his son, David, and his wife, Gladys. The house has a spiral design that’s meant to cool the home by capturing the wind, and features a long curved entry ramp that is said to be the model for a larger version that was later built at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. David and Gladys Wright lived in the house until their deaths, and in the mid 2000’s the home feel into a bit of disrepair. It was actually set to be demolished, but the city + local Wright enthusiasts (like us!) fought hard to keep it standing. Successful efforts saved the historic home and soon brought it back to its glory days — welcoming guests to tour it’s winding hallways once again. Scott and I were able to tour this amazing home back in May of 2015 and it was an incredible sight to see!

So where do the balloons come in? Well, on the 150th birthday of Frank Lloyd Wright a party was thrown in his honor and the home was then donated to the Taliesin Architecture School (FLW’s namesake school that’s located in Scottsdale, Arizona). The incredible Jihan Zencirli of Geronimo Balloons was hired to create this amazing balloon installation — which was an incredible sight to see! I’ve wanted to see one of Zencirli’s installations for years and years (remember the rad installation she did on the Oh Happy Day building last year?) and I felt so lucky that we were able to see this one in person!

Since we got to see the instillation at the very end of the event, the balloons were starting to burst and deflated — but it was still so amazing to see! We basically had the place all to ourselves, so that felt equally as special. If you ever have the chance to see the David Wright House in person (they’ll be opening public tours again in the near future), I would highly recommend checking it out!

I’ll be back soon friends, but in the meantime I would love to hear —  have you ever seen or heard of the David Wright House? What about one of the Geronimo Balloons installations? Her work is SO beautiful in person!
