Today I thought it would be fun to do a “What’s in my bag” post! I haven’t done one of these in ages, so here we go —
As of lately, I’ve been carrying my Madewell Transport Tote in black everywhere. It’s just the perfect go-to, no fuss bag. Oftentimes, you can find my bag filled with lots of notebooks, my laptop, receipts, and a phone charger, but this time around I had just cleaned out my purse – a little less mess for ya’ll to see (and a little less embarrassment for me, haha).
I always try to carry a snack with me, as I’m the kind of person who likes to have lots of little snacks and meals throughout the day. I’m not a huge gum person, but everyone once and awhile I pick up a pack for when I’m without a snack and need something to munch on. I also never leave home without a chapstick, a bright lip color, sunglasses, my wallet and a pen for those light bulb kind of moments.
Headphones and my day planner also never leave my purse. I love quality headphones, but I’m not afraid to throw around these Apple ones when I’m at the coffee shop, walking around or talking on the phone. Lastly, a set of bangles always seems to end up in my purse. I love wearing them on the daily, but usually end of up taking them off and throwing them in my bag when I’m eating, typing or just want them off.
I would love to see what’s in your bag! Take an Instagram photo, post a blog post or tweet a picture and leave a comment let me know you did! I would love to see what’s in your bag!
Hello! I’m back again today with part four of our wedding series – The Ceremony! Our ceremony was definitely the most emotional part of our whole wedding. We were finally going to say, “we do,” in front of all our family and friends – it was happening, right NOW! I’ll admit, I had butterflies and was feeling flooded with emotions just moments before my dad walked me down the aisle. I was ready though, and as soon as Iron & Wine’s version of Such Great Heights began playing, all of the butterflies floated away and my dad and I seemed to float down the aisle together.
Scott walked with both his mom and dad down the aisle. I love that he chose to walk with both of them, and I’m happy that I have this picture to look back on this happy moment (as I was still hidden away, awaiting my moment).
I asked my mom to walk down the aisle with my her brother, my Uncle Billy. I wanted them both to be involved in the ceremony, as my aunt was marrying us and my dad was walking me down the aisle. They’re both incredibly special to me, and I love this photo of them together.
Our bridesmaids and groomsmen were our closet family and friends. My cousin, Odessa, played the role of my Matron of Honor, and Scott’s best friend, Ryan, was his Best Man. Scott’s younger brothers, Cody and Dylan, were his groomsmen, and his sister, Sara, and my best friend, Courtney, were my bridesmaids.
This photo makes my heart melt into a million little pieces. I feel so blessed to have had my dad walk me down the aisle. It was an incredibly special moment that will never, ever leave me. In this moment, I loved looking around and smiling at our family and friends as we walked by, but most of all, I loved looking up at Scott and seeing his smile as my dad and I glided down the aisle.
My dad giving me a kiss before he gave me away was so, so sweet. He knew he wasn’t really giving me away, though, but only gaining a son.
My Aunt Louellen had prepared a very sentimental and untraditional ceremony. Untraditional in the sense that we didn’t say, “I do,” but rather, “we do.” We also prayed, listened to stories about love and promised our love to one another for all time and eternity. On a side note, I knew that I never wanted to have the saying, “until death do we part,” in our ceremony, as I don’t believe your love ends after death, so we said a wonderful alternative that represented us more as a couple, our bond and our never ending love for another.
We exchanged rings and said our vows to one another. In this moment, my entire attention was on Scott and the words I was promising him forever. I tried my best not to stumble, but I think a little nervousness hit me somewhere in there. However, this moment was us and perfect in every way.
Our moms lit a unity candle together to resemble the bonding of our two families. I loved having our moms being a part of the ceremony, and also loved their not so matchy matchy blue dresses.
Scott and I also lit a unity candle together. When my folks got married they had lit one, so I knew I wanted us to do this as well. My parents have been married for over 30 years, so I’m hoping this added a little blessing to our marriage and the years of wedded bliss ahead of us.
We walked back together, hand in hand —
And then the deed was done! We were pronounced husband and wife and Scott kissed his bride! This was such a surreal moment, and I remember wrapping my arms around Scott for the first time as his wife. Our family and friends cheered and hollered, and then we walked down the aisle together to the tune of Best Day of My Life by American Authors. It was the perfect song for the most incredible moment!
Let me introduce to you the newly wed Mr. and Mrs. John Scott Goodson! 🙂
I’ll be back soon with part five of our wedding series! Thank you all again so much for reading and for leaving such sweet words on our past wedding posts (one, two & three). We love sharing these incredibly special and emotional moments with you, and truly appreciate all of your kindness and love!

Happy Monday! Recently, Scott and I went down to ASU to get a few things sorted out and take a peek at his soon-to-be grad school building. I am so incredibly proud of Scott for following his dream and taking the leap to continue on in his education. Going to grad school was one of the best decisions I ever made, and it feels so wonderful to see Scott continue on the now family tradition and get his Master’s degree. I’m truly so excited to see him grow and flourish in an area that he’s so passionate about!
The day we wandered around campus it was super muggy – unusual for Phoenix, but it felt so good when we would finally make our way into the shade. I’ve heard a few locals joke about how fall is coming early with the “cool” temps that we’ll be having this week. Oh, if only that was the case! Lately, I’ve been trying my best lately to wear items that I’ve had hiding in my closet for too long. This lace peplum was unfortunately one of them that fallen into the black hole in my closet. I love how it’s such a great layering piece, and I really want to mix it in with my fall wardrobe. How do you think I could incorporate it into a fall look?
Today I’m starting out my morning with an early coffee date to work on emails, write this blog post, listen to Minus the Bear on Spotify and get my thoughts together before a busy and exciting day. I could really use some positive thoughts today, so if you have any to spare, please send them my way! xo
What are you up to today? Do you have a favorite piece of clothing that you haven’t worn in ages? I challenge you to do so today!
Happy Friday! Scott and I just back home from a working session at a local coffee shop – he working on getting together some documents for school, and me working on answering emails and getting these darn photos uploaded — the internet there was terrible. Anyways, now we’re back at home and both working on separate projects again after we had lunch, of course (girls gotta have her daily PB&J!). While we’ve both been really productive, its still been a bit of a slow morning. Maybe I need another glass of iced coffee to speed me up? Definitely!
Even though August just began, it already feels like its been quite a busy month. Scott and I have been working hard on his online shop for Citizen Home Decor, getting things ready that he needs before starting grad school later this month and spending lots of time on this ‘ol blog of mine. Yesterday we walked down this We’ve both been really enjoying our time together before his days begin to be filled with classes and homework. This summer really has been so special, so I’ll be sad to see it go. However, fall will be bringing another adventure along with it and many more busy, fun and cozy days ahead, and for that reason, I’ll be happy to greet the new season with open arms.
This weekend I have a few online projects to work on, and want to get our wardrobe more organized. I’ve been trying to keep our spring/summer and fall/winter clothes separate for the last year, but now I’m at a point where I’m not sure where everything is and have a handful of boxes to dig through. I’ve been trying to find this one green vest for months now, and I decided that this will be the weekend I finally find it (hopefully!). Have a great weekend, friends!
Has anyone else been on a pre-fall cleaning spree lately?
Scott and I are back today with another easy DIY project! This time around we made a rustic lipstick holder out of a piece of pecan firewood that we had lying around our backyard. I’m a big lipstick lover, but struggle with how to store and display my favorite colors. So Scott and I sat down and sketched out a simple holder made with things we found around our home. We really enjoyed working on this project, and hope you love it too!
Supplies:
– One log cut down to about 4 in. long
Tools:
– A pencil
– A lipstick to stencil with – pick one that resembles the average size of your lipsticks
– 3/4 in. wood boring bit
-Drill
-Miter saw (if you need to make your own cut)
Step One: If you plan on making your own cut at home, use a miter saw or hand saw to cut your log down to 4 inches long. The log should also be about 4 inches wide.
Step Two: Take your pencil and trace the bottom of the lipstick, starting in the center and then tracing the outer circle.
Step Three: Take your boring bit and mark it with a pencil with how deep you want your lipstick to fit into the wood so you know when to stop drilling.
Step Four: Start drilling! Start with the center circle and make your way around the outer circle.
Step Five: You’re all done! Blow off the extra sawdust and store your favorite lipsticks in it!
This would be the perfect project for a beauty lover, or just anyone needing some extra storage space for their beloved lipsticks. I absolutely love how this turned out, and have already filled it with a few of my favorite lip colors, all from MAC and NYX. This would also be a great spot for rotating your seasonal and most loved colors so their always on display and ready to go when you are!
If you would like to see more DIY collaborations, please let Scott and I know in the comments below!
Today I’m so really excited to announce that Scott has launched his new and improved website for Citizen Home Decor, his handmade business! Many of you may remember when he launched his shop last summer when he was selling handmade wooden state plaques, coasters and ornaments later in the holiday season. Well, along with these items, Scott is now selling framed wooden custom cut-outs (any shape you want!), and framed wooden state cut-outs! Over the past month he was been working hard at perfecting his craft and is really excited to take his shop to the next level.
Heya! I’m back again today with part three of our wedding series – Before We Say, “We Do!” After our first look moment, we walked behind our venue to take a few couples portraits right before our ceremony. At this point, our adrenaline was running on high and we were SO excited to finally say, “We Do,” in just a few short minutes. We absolutely loved how these photos turned out, and we’ll certainly cherish them forever.
Oh, I remember feeling so giddy in this moment! I was SO ready and excited to be his wife!
This photo is one of my absolute favorites from our entire wedding day. When I look at it, I can just feel the emotion and the love and excitement that was surrounding us.
About five minutes into our couple’s portraits, it was time for our ceremony to begin! Our amazing wedding planner, Katherine of Lucky & In Love, came and told us that it was time. So together we made the walk to our ceremony, Scott holding the back of my dress off the floor, and me, smiling so big and trying to hold all my jitters in – it was time that we became husband and wife!
I’ll be back soon with part four of our wedding series! Thank you all so much for reading and for leaving such sweet words on our past wedding posts (one & two). We’re so happy to be able to share these incredibly special moments with you all!
Hey ya’ll! It’s Monday once again and I’m determined to make this week rock! Scott and I got up early this morning, had breakfast together, sat in our backyard for a bit and now we’re both spending some time working on our passions — he – woodworking, me – blogging. We don’t always get to spend our mornings together, but when we do we really make sure they count! Anyways, I’ve been doing a little reminiscing about past summers and my time in Colorado. While I loving being in Phoenix during the summer with my hubby and friends, I do miss the small towns and country views that my summers in Colorado always gave me. Even though I’ll always be a city gal, there’s a part of me that will forever love the country, a good pair of cowboy boots and those quaint towns that were always full of adventure.
Even though August just started, I can tell that it’s going to be a refreshing month. Yesterday afternoon a giant rain storm came out of nowhere and it felt so good to hear the rain drops coming down while we sat in the dark and enjoyed some coffee together. Scott and I decided a french toast dinner seemed fitting for the evening (made with the most delicious cinnamon chip bread I picked up at the farmers market), and afterward we went on a two mile walk around our favorite park. We also spent some time working on Scott’s new website for his handmade business, Citizen Home Decor – which went live yesterday (check it out!).
Hello! My sweet friend Kelsey has this neat featured on her blog called “this month.” It’s all about projecting what you would like to be focused on and see happen in the coming month. So since its the beginning of a new month, I thought I would write my own “this month” thoughts. Without further adieu —
Eating – slices of this delicious cinnamon chip bread from The Great Harvest Bread Co., all the while doing my best to continue to eat healthy and whole foods.
Drinking – my favorite iced coffee with a shot of espresso from a new-to-me local shop, along with lots and lots of water.
Practicing – getting my day started early.
Mastering – the art of making our bed every day.
Learning – more about patience, life and myself.
Listening – to the new Jenny Lewis album and my Fall Vibes playlist on Spotify.
Playing – around with the idea of a fall trip to NYC. We shall see!
Reading – new-to-me issues of 3,191 Miles Apart, more books and more blog posts.
Watching – more movies and less reality tv (so bad, but so good).
Walking – more and more each day. I’ve been a couch potato lately!
Wearing – my summer staples while incorporating as many fall pieces in that I can.
Cooking – the basics. You gotta start somewhere!
Working – on my blog and continuing to write posts that I’m proud of.
Traveling – in and around the city.
Wanting – cooler weather and a trip up north for some fall weather.
Happy Saturday, ya’ll! I spent my morning trying out a new-to-me coffee shop and wandering around the local farmers market. The market was SO busy today, but I guess that’s what happens when it dips below 100 degrees in August in Arizona. Everyone comes flocking outside to enjoy the “cool” weather, me included haha. Jokes aside, it really was the most beautiful morning and I could have stayed laying in the grass with my iced coffee and cinnamon chip bread all afternoon!
Since the days of summer are now numbered, I’m trying my best to wear all my summer digs. While this might sound super easy, it’s feeling very hard because all I want to do is wear my dark colors, layers, and boots! Once August starts my mind goes into complete fall mode, even though it’s still 100+ degrees here and I would melt outside wearing boots and a thick cardigan. So for now, I’ll keep my fall thoughts inside and still rock my summer looks outside. Sounds fair enough, right? 😉
Outfit details:
Blouse – Costco (no joke, my mom got it for me!)
Skirt: Anthropologie
Sandals: c/o Blowfish shoes
Right now I’m heading out to run some errands before Scott gets home from work!
