CHOOSE JOY

03.10.14
Hey-oo, Monday! My sleepy dreams are telling me NO, but my 7:15am doctor’s appointment is giving me a big ol’ slap in the face. Well, I’m beating the monday blues with some hot pumpkin spice coffee (not ready to give it up yet), and my “Choose Joy” t-shirt from Arsenic & Lace. I love the positive message this comfy tee gives off, and what better day to wear it then today, the “dreaded Monday.” Choose joy, sweet friends, today’s our day!

This weekend went by in a hot minute! On Friday, Scott and I hung out at home and stopped by Target for a non-sensical stroll through the store, ya know, the kind that costs you $40 and you end up leaving with a cart full of random things. Ya, we’re one of those people (too!). On Saturday, we celebrated a close friend’s birthday with Raising Cane’s secret sauce and french fries, and then topped it off with another trip to Target – but it was at the good Target on the other side of town, so, ya know, we had to. On Sunday, I got up early and bought a dozen donuts to munch on throughout the day, cleaned up a bit, and browsed around the mall in search of new shoes. I’ve battling what I hope is only an allergy related cough, and my throat has been so sore lately, so lots of hot green tea and honey was sipped on all weekend. What’s your favorite sore throat remedy?

It’s going to be in the high 70’s and 80’s here this week, and I can’t decided whether to mourn the loss of the cool winter breeze, or to indulge in the warm sunshine. For now, let’s just say I lie somewhere in the middle – not ready to give up my layers, but enjoying the pre-spring warmth on the daily.
How was your weekend?

FRIDAY I’M IN LOVE

03.07.14
You heard me! It’s Friday and I’m loving all of the postive vibes that have been floating around today. I started off my morning by getting to work early, popping the top off of a glass bottled Stumptown Cold Brew, and owning my daily tasks before 9 a.m.. Even though this day starting off with a smashing start, I’m counting down the mintues to the weekend. I used to never be the kind of person who pined for the weekend to come, but now, I’m all about those two days of rest and relaxtions. My sweet friend, Chelsea, posted a link to this article about things you suddently want to do in your twenties and I had a good giggle about how many of them were so true (give me all the weekend brunch dates, please!). Are you guilty of any of these things? I might be guilty of one or two. 😉

I’m currently sitting at my desk at work and there is dead silence all around me. Well, part of that is due to the witching hour that is lunch, but mostly because everyone is out today. Some days I really cherish a quiet and calm office, but usually I like the chaos and conversations that circle around me throughout the day. I guess I’ll be looking to you to keeping me company today, but once 5pm hits, I’m headed for the weekend! Sunshine, early morning coffee dates, and brunch are in my near future – anyone up for joining me?

To kick start the weekend, I think I’ll be taking the plunge and ordering this beauty of a bag, and also headed out to pick up a mid-afternoon treat! What are you up to? Have any plans for the weekend? What item are you most coveting right now?

OUR WEDDING HIGHLIGHT VIDEO

03.05.14

Chelsea and Scott highlight from Romantic Wedding Videos on Vimeo.

Having our special day captured on video was very important to Scott and I. We wanted those moments of candid smiles, of our evident hearts racing as we walked down the aisle, and all of those special, little moments that we never wanted to forget captured in time forever. Our wedding day was filmed by our sweet friend, Lars Lindstrom. He put us at ease when we were nervously getting ready, and did such a wonderful job at capturing so many beautiful moments – from us getting ready, to our first look and first kiss as husband and wife, to our sparkler exit (and this is only our highlight!). Thank you, Lars!

A DUSTY ROAD

03.04.14
Hey Monday! While we had a rough start (cue hitting my alarm too many times), you treated me well. I’m currently hanging out with my husband and folks, watching my sweet pup, Piper, snuggle up to my dad as she falls fast asleep. Even though she’s over a year old, she is still such a baby. Scout, who will be two in May, is just the same. It’s been so neat to see their personalities develop and grow over time. They were definitely meant to be in our family! Do you have any fur babies? I would love to hear about them!

Two words — wedding band! *Sorry, I just had to.* I’ve been rocking my wedding bands (I have one that sits in front of my engagement ring too) for over a month now, which is crazy to think! I remember the day we picked out our wedding bands, and how exciting it was to be trying on a ring that would soon mean so much. I wanted something simple that would complement my engagement ring, and Scott wanted something comfortable and classic. We left the jewelry store happy and excited with his ring in hand (mine had to be resized). On Christmas day Scott surprised me with a second band that I had been wishing before, but had decided to wait on until my birthday, our first anniversary, or another exciting day in our life. He had another idea, though, and I’m so happy that he did. I can’t even tell you how many times a day I still catch myself looking at my engagement ring and wedding bands. I still can’t get over how lucky am! Thanks, husband, for asking me to be your wife!

Remember last week when I shared my thoughts on Teal Monday? Well, I’m still holding this to be true. While I may not be wearing teal today (although, light blue is close), I still rocked the Teal Monday vibes all morning and afternoon. I really like the idea of bringing positivity into a day that carries such a negative connotation, and while I may have my off days every once in awhile, it’s nice to focus on the positive and make every Monday (and every other day, for that matter) the best it can be. Did you rock the Teal Monday vibes with me today?

I posted this little story on Instagram earlier, but I thought it would be nice to share it here as well (because let’s be honest, my heart is still swooning and it’s too sweet not to share). So, five o’clock hit me hard today, so I told my sweet husband that I was going to make some coffee when I got home. Twenty minutes later when I walked in the door, there was an iced coffee waiting for me on the kitchen table. I truly am such a lucky lady to have such a thoughtful husband – he just gets met! Someone mentioned in a comment that coffee is clearly my love language, and I think she couldn’t be more right.

THREE THINGS

03.01.14
Hello, March! I thought I would welcome the new month with a three things post, inspired by incredibly lovely Chelsea of the Zipped blog. Chelsea is a constant source of inspiration for me, and I feel honored to call her a friend. Without further ado —

1. We’re ushering in March with some dreary weather today. Dark clouds, light showers, and a breeze in the air. No complaining around here though, my coffee cup is full and I’m cherishing what might be the last few days of cool weather around these parts for months to come.
2. Today is my bestie’s birthday! Happy Birthday, Courtney! Last night we started off the celebration with vegan ice cream and a long chat outside during a wind storm in downtown Phoenix. Tonight we’re paying tribute to the 80’s with a dance party at a local bar with her twin and a few of their closest friends. I’m still trying to hunt down an appropriate outfit for the event!
3. I’ve had the major urge to shop lately – like not joking, it’s bad. I’ve done some small damage over the past week or so, but I’ve got my eye on a few bigger purchases – like this Kate Spade Saturday bag.
What three things have been on your mind lately?

ADIEU, FEBRUARY!

02.28.14
You guys, It’s Friday AND the last day of February! Talk about a double whammy! February was a busy, busy month, and I have a hunch that March will be just the same (don’t things always seem to pick up in the spring?). Tomorrow is my bestie’s birthday, and I’m excited to get my groove on at her 80’s themed birthday celebration! Scott is completely stoked about dressing up, but I have no idea what I’m going to wear! I figure, I’m a child of the 80’s so I’m sure I’ve got a pair of acid wash jeans and a little neon hiding in my closet somewhere. We will see!

Tucked away in that same overstuffed closet was this black, white and red ensemble. If I’m being honest, I feel most confident when I decked out in neutrals and solids from head to toe, but this printed skirt gave my neutral ways a run for its money. I picked up this mini skater skirt on a whim one evening when Scott and I were shopping at a local TJ Maxx. Lately, I’ve been pushing myself to think outside of the box when it comes to my clothing purchases, and this mini style definitely spoke to my boundaries. I’m hoping that once the warm temperatures are hereto stay, that I won’t chicken out and hide this gem away in my closet until tights season rolls around again, but since I’m writing this here – hold me to it!

Meet Boots! After a series of odd events, Boots has officially joined our little family. He’s a one-year-old tabby that has quite the personality and is full of spunk! He loves paper bags, feathers, and the smell of coffee (literally, every time I sit down to drink a cup he’s all over me). He’s our third fur baby and I’m so happy that he’s a part of our family!
How are you spending your last day of February? What’s one item in your closet that pushes your usual style boundaries?

CURLY GIRL

02.27.14
Wow! What a week! I had all intentions of posting yesterday, but the day just seem to slip away from me (as has this month, really). My work days have been extra busy since I took on community management for a new client at work, but I am feeling blessed for this amazing opportunity. On the home front, Scott and I have been spending our evenings relaxing, watching Pawn Stars, and going to the movies with my folks. Last night we went to see 3 Days to Kill, and while it wasn’t my kind of movie, it still felt good to get out and hang out in an (almost) empty theater.

Ok, I have a secret to admit. These photos were taken back in January, pre-wedding right after my makeup and hair trial. I figured I couldn’t waste a good hair and makeup day, but I thought I would hold on to the photos until after the wedding. On our actual wedding day, I added a BHLDN heaband, a little extra poof in the back of my hair, and a little more eyeshadow + natural lips. I wanted to look myself on our wedding day, and I feel like my amazing hair/MUA, Marianna Marie, helped me to acheive just that.

What are you up to this evening? Any plans for the weekend? I spent all day yesterday thinking that today was Friday! Ah haha! Woops!

TEAL MONDAY

02.24.14
Why do Mondays always have to feel so blue? Yes, Monday means that the weekend is over and it’s back to work, but why let it bring us down? Well, today I’m taking the initiative to turn this day teal, ya know, blue’s brighter, happier, bolder cousin! I started off my morning with kitty snuggles, iced coffee, and a quick drive to work, and since then, things have been smooth sailing! Well, other than getting salad dressing on my blouse – Whoops!

This weekend Scott and I kept things pretty laid back. On Saturday, we did a little bit of shopping at a local discount store and got take-out Italian for dinner. This particular discount store, Last Chance, is a hot mess of a store that carries new/used/damaged items from Nordstroms and Nordstroms Rack. Half of the time Scott and I go there we don’t walk out with anything, but every once in awhile we score. On Saturday, the discount gods must have been shining down on us because I walked away with three dresses amazing at $12 a piece! Woohoo! I felt like I practially stole the things. Anyways, Saturday treated us real well and the weekend was even over yet! On Sunday, I attended a farmers market pop up shop at my local Anthropologie. They had so many goodies and treats, and I felt quite honored that the ladies and gents from Anthro wanted me to be there. The rest of the day was spent people watching, eating leftover Valentine’s Day candy, and having dinner with my sweet husband at one of our favorite local restaurants, Liberty Market.

The warmer weather that we’ve been having around Phoenix has defintiely been putting me in the mood for spring. While I LOVE dark colors, and cold weather digs, it’s going to feel good to pop on a bright color and paint my nails with pastels. Oh, and eat some of those yummy Cadbury mini eggs that tend to start circulating in the stores this time of year. We’ve already eaten a whole bag at our house!

THE GOLDEN HOUR

02.18.14
First things first, today is Scott and I’s one month wedding anniversary! Now, you might all say it’s silly to celebrate one month, but I figure, we waited 7+ years to get hitched so we can celebrate however we want! It’s still so crazy to think that our wedding day, a day that we planned for for nine months, has already came and went. In the midst of planning and preparing, the countdown to our wedding seemed to forever be in double digits. And now? We’ve already been married for a whole month. Time seems to seriously fly by post-wedding!  Am I right, ladies and gents?

Friday we celebrated our first Valentine’s Day as husband and wife! I might have gotten a little teary eyed in the card aisle in Target when I was searching for the perfect husband card. I’ve always been one for sappy cards, but picking one out for my husband for the first time just felt so emotional. I know there will be many more cards to come in the future, but I don’t think I’ll ever forget picking out my first card for my sweet husband. Valentine’s Day 2014, you sure were good to us!

After our dinner and dessert date Friday night, Scott and I kept it pretty low key for the rest of the weekend. We did a little binge reality tv watching (Duck Dynasty for him, Real Housewives for me), went to bed way early (so early that I woke up at midnight thinking it was morning already), and took the pups to a local dog park a couple of times. I also spent my mornings keeping up with my weekly runs, and sipping on what might be my last few cups of hot coffee until the fall. Today it’s supposed to be in the 80s, and there are no signs of it cooling down again. I was hoping for it to stay slightly chilly through March, like last year, but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Hm! What else? Well, Scott and I stayed up late last night to watch The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. We’ve been a fan of his for years now, so it was neat to see his first show as Mr. Tonight Show History was made and Jimmy rocked it! I grew up watching The Tonight Show with my folks, so it’s neat to be able to continue on this tradition with my husband. Anyone else grow up watching the tonight show? Did you see Jimmy’s first show? What did you think?

Ok, I’m out! Let’s make today a wonderful day!
What are you up to today? It’s sunny and bright outside! What’s it look like where you are?
I would love to see!
