Autumn Outings

10.18.12

Autumn in Phoenix is always full of awesome festivals, art gallery showings, food truck dates, and time spent wandering around my favorite places in the city. A few weekends back Scott, Scout, and I checked out the annual Tour de Fat Festival at Tempe Town Lake. We thought by the time we got there things would be almost all the way wrapped up, but we were pleasantly surprised to see that so many things were still going on (the band, lots of booths, and people all around)!

While at Tour de Fat we ran into the lovely Chanelle and her hubby, Gabe, and had the best time checking out all of the unique bikes (I saw one that had wheels made out of shoes!) and costumed festival goers (we saw so many crazy costumes and lots of steampunk style)!

After the festival we decided to head down to Mill Avenue in Tempe to visit Short Leash Hot Dogs where they were set up at a small, local Oktoberfest. I was really excited to introduce them to Scout, and I’m already scheming of a way to get Scout to be the featured pup of the week (I LOVE when they create hot dogs (or veggie dogs) around someone’s cute pup). Before we headed out Scott got a bratwurst, and I got fried pickles (they make the best!). Afterward we found a nice, grassy spot and enjoyed the cloudy day. It really was such a lovely afternoon!

Tonight I’m finishing up another analysis paper, and still deciding on what to eat for dinner. Do you think candy corn, hot apple cider, and maybe some of those cider donuts I hear so much about sound like a good dinner? Yeah, I do too haha!

What are you up to today? Have you been to any festivals yet this fall, or are you planning on going to any?

Park Avenue

10.15.12

Since getting into wearing lipstick these past few months I’ve been dying to try out a darker lip (and of course it’s on trend for the current season!). One of my favorite makeup lines, Radiant Cosmetics, carries an awesome line of moisturizing and matte lipsticks, so I was so excited try out  the Park Avenue moisturizing lipstick after getting it at the Radiant Cosmetics booth at the LuLu*s Style Studio event (Thanks, Nicole!)!

I’m not going to lie, I was a little nervous about how the shade would look on me, but once I put it on my lips I was over the moon happy with how gorgeous the color is, and how well it mixed with my complexion! If any of you sweet readers out there have a favorite fall lipstick shade, I would love to hear what it is!

Scott and I have been taking it easy for the most of the day today. Until Wednesday we are on “fall break” from school, and only really have plans to rest and do a few fun fall activities. I may also want to stop by Last Chance in Phoenix and pick up a couple new sweaters (they always have the best deals, and the cooler weather this weekend has gotten me SO excited for layering!).

What are you up to today? What fall trend are you loving right now?

Fall Twilight

10.11.12

Today I can say that it truly feels like fall! I woke up to cloudy skies, a cool breeze, and a light rainfall just outside my window. Oh my, today feels like a treat and I definitely don’t want this beautiful day to slip away from me. So I’m starting off the morning with a huge mug of hot coffee (in one of my favorite Anthro mugs from Courtney) and some fall’ish tunes!

Life has been a little hectic lately, but I’m hoping that after today (and that exam I have at 2 p.m.) it will start to calm down a little bit. I’m dying to do a little fall shopping, and can’t wait to take Scout on a few cool weather walks this weekend. As I’m typing this out Scout is laying down with his head between his paws and giving me the sweetest look. I swear, that pup just melts my heart!

I have a feeling that today will be a Arcade Fire The Suburbs, and Cursive The Ugly Organ kind of day. Those are definitely two of my favorite fall albums, and I’m curious as to what are your favorite fall albums? Right now I’m really into Mumford & Sons’ Babel, but I’m excited to check out some other fall tunes! Ok, I’m off to class! Have a wonderful day everyone! XO

PS If anyone can guess where this lyric is from I’ll give you a big, virtual high-five!

“The room is littered with her notebooks, I imagine what they say, like, “Shoo fly don’t bother me.”

Scout’s First October

10.09.12

October is always a special month around here, but this year it feels extra special because it’s Scout’s first October. In the past week the weather has started to cool down, and the feeling of fall is actually starting to sink in around here. The cool weather has made it nice to take Scout on outings, and also easier for me to swap my regular iced coffee for a hot coffee. I can’t believe how quickly the month is already passing by, but I’m determined to make it a wonderful, heartfelt month.

Lately Scout has been extra cuddly, and never seems to leave my side. He loves to pull every one of his toys out of his basket and insists that we play with each and every one throughout the day. He loves to kiss and cuddle, and he also doesn’t mind me putting on his Halloween skeleton shirt. He really is such a sweet little boy.

I’ve been scheming away at an idea for the perfect Halloween costume for Scout. I originally wanted to dress him up as a candy corn, or a little pumpkin, but I think I’ve decided on something so much better! His costume is going to take some work, but I’m hoping I can pull it together before the 31st.

Today I’m going to write up my Fall Must List (sort of like my Summer Must List, inspired by 3,191 Miles Apart). My friend Courtney always makes such great lists (including seasonal ones) and I admire her dedication to get everything checked off her list. This season I’m determined to really take in everything, and I already know that my first “task” to accomplish will be watching Hocus Pocus (such a classic and always, always my favorite!).

I’m off to class this morning and I am SO excited to finally turn in this analysis mid-term paper that has been looming over my head. It always feel so refreshing to send off something that you’ve spent so much time working on. I may even treat myself to something special after I turn it in! I’ve been eyeing this Nars blush palette for months now, so maybe this is the perfect excuse to finally get it! Anyways, hope you all have a lovely day!

LuLu*s Style Studio Event in PHX!

10.08.12

The Friday before last was the LuLu*s Style Studio event in downtown Phoenix! I had literally been waiting months for this day to come around, so I was incredibly excited when it finally came. Earlier in the afternoon before the event started I met up with Erin of Calivintage and Lauren of Phoenix, Je T’aime  at Songbird Coffee & Tea House (which is connected to the venue that the event was being held at). We decided to go for a little stroll around downtown Phoenix, and check out a few vintage (only one ended up being open!) shops along the way.

We arrived back at the Monorchid a little before the event started, so I spent a little time checking out the Radiant Cosmetics booth. Nicole of Radiant is most definitely one of the sweetest ladies I met through my blog, so it was lovely to have her at the event (and to finally being able to meet in real life!). Nicole and Bri did makeup on sweet attendees all evening, and also spread the word about Radiant and their amazing mission.

LuLu*s brought in an awesome Mr. Fun Booth for the evening (seriously loved the quality of this photo booth!). All of the fun props were a hit, and I had so much fun jumping in there and making silly faces with everyone!

There was a style challenge during the event and Erin asked me to be a part of it. The deal was that each of the four ladies chosen had to create a unique look using the clothes/style sections in the LuLu*s pop-up shop, and then tell the audience a little bit about their personal style, and why their chose the outfit they did.  I picked out an amazing sequin, shimmery jacket, a sweet cream peplum top, and black dress slacks! The lovely ladie just to the left of me in the photo above won the style challenge for her sweet style! I had such a fun time participating, and was so excited that I got to keep one item from my outfit (and yes, I did pick the sparkly jacket!).

About half way into the event Mara, who I was SO excited to finally meet in person after years of being blog friends, gave an awesome talk about her favorite fall trends. She said that she was nervous, but she talked like a pro! You go, Mara!

Kara was an awesome wingman for the evening (and she looked amazing in her LuLu*s dress!).

It was so great to finally meet Erin and Mara. These two ladies are both SO incredibly sweet, and I’m so thankful that I had the opportunity to meet them!

I was also SO happy to see Ashley and her husband, Marcus, at the event. Ashley wrote a really sweet post about coming to the event, and how she almost didn’t because of social anxiety. Being someone that can relate to Ashley’s feelings, I really found her post moving and heartfelt. If you’re not already following Ashley, I highly suggest you check out her blog (she has amazing style and the biggest heart!).

Thanks so much again to LuLu*s for throwing such an amazing event in Phoenix, and for asking me and the Phoenix Style Collective to be involved! I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect evening!

Have you ever attended a blogger event before? If so, I would love to hear about it!

LGO Date Night

10.05.12

One of my favorite date night restaurants in the area is La Grande Orange. The locals know it as a classic spot, and it’s always one of those places that I love introduce others to. It had been a couple months since Scott and I last dined at LGO, and knowing that they would probably have butternut squash soup (SO fall!), I was excited to head over to Arcadia for a little dinner date.

The butternut squash soup was delicious, and the avocado pizza was SO good (I’m thinking the crust is made the same way their famous english muffins are). For dessert we were tempting to get one of their salted chocolate chip cookies (always a favorite!), but decided to skip it and opted to get candy at the movie we were going to see right afterward instead (red vines for me, raspberry m&ms for Scott). That evening we saw The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and like I tweeted right after we got out of the movie, it was everything I had hoped for and more.

This past week has been SO busy! Grad school is absolutely ruling my life right now, and I’ll be so happy when mid-terms are finally over next week. Also, this is going to sound silly but I’ve literally been trying to get this post up for three days now! The new Blogger format is still giving me so much trouble, and today I finally decided to scratch all of my work on the previous post and start fresh (and I still have a photo formatting issue on the top!). I would love to hear how everyone is handling the new Blogger format, and if you are struggling with placing photos in your posts as well.
Hope everyone has a beautiful Friday! What do you have planned for today?

Out with Scout

10.04.12

Life is good when you have a sweet puppy who loves car rides, meeting (new) friends, and stopping for coffee (water) breaks just as much as you do! Today Scout, Scott, and I had a fun filled day driving all over the city (and further out) and we are all now pretty worn out. However, just when I thought Scout was ready to settle down for the night, he has proven to me that he still has just enough energy to insist that I throw his stuffed spider over, and over again.

How was your day?

American Gothic

10.03.12

Pardon the crickets around here today while I try and finish up a lengthy analysis paper I have due on Thursday. Don’t think I’ve forgotten about how much fun I had at the LuLu*s Style Studio event last Friday though, because I am SO excited to share all of the details of the event! One of my favorite parts had to the be the Mr. Fun Booth, and taking silly photos with all of my friends. Here is Scott and I with Ashley and her husband, Marcus, doing our best impression of American Gothic! Bahh! SO serious!

Be back soon, friends!
What have you been up to lately?

Cider Stand

10.01.12
October, is that really you? Where did September go? Geez, this past month went by in the flash of an eye and I can hardly believe that my favorite month is already here! I thought it would be fun to start off the month with a major pop of color! More and more red has been making its way into my wardrobe lately and I’ve been enjoying the extra oomf the color gives to an every day (and in this case, date night) outfit.

On Friday before the LuLu*s event I had the pleasure of meeting up with the sweet owner of Radiant Csometics, Nicole. For months now Nicole and I have been talking through emails/tweets/instagram comments, so it was so nice to finally meet her in person. Nicole is super passionate about her amazing business, and truly is the sweetest lady. It was so lovely to chat with her about makeup, blogging, journalism degrees, and so much more over my favorite iced coffee at Lola Coffee (I just had to take Nicole there!).

This sweet Poppy lipstick from Nicole’s makeup line has recently become one of my favorites. I wore this color to class the other day and felt so put together! It’s amazing how a lipstick can really turn around your whole afternoon!

To celebrate the first day of fall I would like to purchase my first pumpkin, sip on some delicious fall apple cider, and also pick up the new Mumford & Sons record finally!

How are you celebrating the first day of October?
