Around Ouray, CO!

07.17.12

While Scott was in town we went on a few day trip adventures. Last year we visited the tiny mountain of Ouray, and knew that this year we had to go back to take in the sights and the natural hot springs pool once again.

We took a walk up and down the downtown area, and then went off the beaten path to wander around the historical homes and old buildings. We spotted so many cute, pastel painted hotels while on our walk (the town was full of them)! Growing up I always wanted to live in one of these “Easter Egg” homes, and truly still do.
The last time we were in town we went into this historical hotel to escape the rain. Inside we found the neatest book shop, full of old and new books, as well as trinkets of all kinds (I recall finding a child gas mask!). The hotel also had the most gorgeous lobby, and it was so hard not to wander up through the hallways (but I really wanted to!).
The year before we also stopped in at this chocolate and coffee factory where we shared the most delicious fudge and cookie. This time around felt it was appropriate to do just the same (because we definitely needed a snack after all that walking!). It was SO hard not to pick out so many different treats though! They had chocolates of all sorts, cookies, fudge, and the most delicious looking slices of cake. We ended up getting an everything cookie and dark chocolate fudge to share.
After our walk around town we headed to the local hot springs pool and spent some time going back and forth between the 115 degree pool, and the 90 degree pool (amazing that they are naturally this hot!). We really loved hanging out at the pool, and were so relaxed when we left.

If you’re ever near the Western Slope of Colorado, I highly suggest checking out the town of Ouray. Have any of you visited Ouray before?

Summer Stroll

07.16.12

Even though Summer is definitely still on the horizon, my mind keeps wandering to what August and the fall season will hold. My final year of graduate school is just around the corner, and my favorite season is finally getting closer and closer. However, I still feel like July deserves a proper send off, and time well spent doing enjoyable things.

On my Summer Must List I wanted to find at least one good read for the summer months, and I feel like I’ve finally fallen into it. After seeing it around at Barnes and Noble, and reading about it on Emma’s blog, I was convinced I needed to read The Night Circus. I’m really loving the story line so far, and absolutely adore the time period the book is set in. I hope to do a mini review when I finish it up! After all, I did always really love the idea of doing book reviews while in J school!
Now looking more back at my Summer Must List, I’m feeling pretty accomplished. I’m still, however, on the search for a comfy pair of sandals. I have a pair of Birkenstocks that I love, but they are a bit clunky. If you anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them! Also I recently found my summer tunes, or tune for that matter. My favorite band, Stars, never seems to disappoint, and I’ve been jamming out to their latest single, The Theory of Relativity, ever since it hit the interweb a weeks ago!
Outfit details:
Dress: Angie
Purse: Vintage Coach
Sandals: c/o Jack Rogers
I’m off to get a few errands done, and to spend some time running around (literally, he is a ball of energy!) with my sweet pup, Scout. What are you up to today? Have you made a dent in your Summer Must List yet?

Bluebird Cafe

07.15.12

One of my favorite coffee shops in the whole state of Colorado is Bluebird Cafe in Glenwood Springs.

The quaint shop is connecting to a hiking store and has beautiful wooden floors (yeah, I definitely can appreciate a gorgeous, 100-year-old wooden floor).

Their iced coffee is inexpensive, and they serve up the most amazing gluten-free muffins (I had raspberry this time around!).
It felt really great to just sit in this cute shop and take in the sights as I watched out the window. Perfect afternoon if you ask me!
Do you have a favorite shop that you love to people watch in?

Pop Of Color

07.13.12

Wow! It really has been some time since I last blogged an outfit. I really didn’t mean for that to happen, but life has just been so busy lately (in the best way!). While Scott was visiting me in Colorado he took back his title of official Tea Talk photographer and snapped some photos for me! Sometimes taking your own outfit photos can be tricky (I’m sure many of you know that!), so it felt really great to have my photographer back who really knows how to take the perfect photo!

While Scott was here we went on lots of walks, and explored tiny towns. We really love to turn down any and every alleyway to just see what we can find, which is usually lots of beautiful flowers, amazing wooden fences and old, forgotten treasures. We found this pretty wooden shed down an alleyway in Paonia, CO. Scott and I are convinced this wood is over 100-years-old! It really was beautiful.

The June Gloom we experience around here has still been edging it’s way into July here around the Western Slope, so I felt like I needed a little color in my life. I really adore this bright yellow dress, and my pretty red wedges from Blowfish Shoes (Blowfish makes THE best wedges, no joke!).

Today I took a drive up to Crested Butte, CO, a tiny mountain town that is full of charm! I browsed around a few shops, ate lunch on the patio of a cute cafe, and purchased a backpack for my final year of college. After all these years I finally felt it was time that I get a backpack, and found the perfect one in a cute mountain store (think baggu material!). I can’t’ believe the school year is almost around here! I honestly can’t wait!

What are you up to today? Are you experiencing any of that early July Gloom where you live?

Welcome Home, Little Guy!

07.12.12

On Monday we welcomed the newest addition to our family, a 10-week-old, male Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (no name yet!). He has the sweetest, and most laid back personality of any puppy I’ve ever met. He loves to give a lot of kisses, and be held whenever possible. He also loves to give little puppy bites, and chase anyone around the room when the time is right. I’m pretty much smitten with him and I’m very happy to have him in our family. Welcome home, little guy!
What are you up to today?

A Few Beauty Favorites

07.10.12

Before I left Arizona I took a few photos of some of my then favorite beauty products. In the past few months I have really re-found my passion for makeup and other beauty products, so I thought it would be fun to share a few items that I’m currently enjoying using. Although these photos were taken back in May (and lost in my photo archives since then!), I’m still really loving these products.

Products from left to right: Benefit’s Creaseless Cream Shadow in Birthday Suit, Stila Smudge Pot in Kitten, NARS cream blush in Penny Lane, and a sample of Fresh Sugar Rose Lip Treatment.

What beauty products are you loving right now?

CP Burger Date

07.09.12

Scott and I recently took a trip to Aspen, Colorado. I’ve been going to Aspen since I was a kid, but this was Scott’s first visit there. Growing up I was never too impressed by the town, but over the past few years things around downtown Aspen have really livened up and it has turned into a destination I would visit over, and over again. When we pulled into Aspen we were starving, so we decided to do what any food network loving person would do, ask the locals where we should eat.

Some sweet ladies working in a candy shop pointed us in the direction of CP Burger, and I have to say, we were more than impressed with their suggestion. The tiny restaurant was filled to the brim with customers, with many more opting to sit outside on the patio (next to the miniature golf course!). We quickly ordered our meals and then scoped out a table for two.
CP Burger gives all of their customers names of famous authors, actors, politicians, etc., instead of numbers to claim their meals. Scott and I got Edgar Allen Poe and it was really funny to hear the waitress yelling out his name as she set our food up on the tiny pick-up counter.
The food was delicious! Our chicken sandwiches were perfect (there was some kind of amazing, creamy sauce on it that I still can’t figure out what it was exactly), and the fries were some of the best I’ve had. I was so excited to see that they had parmesan truffle fries so Scott to try them out! One of my favorite burger joints in the Western Slope serves these amazing parmesan truffle fries, and CP’s own version definitely gave theirs a run for their money!
We both really enjoyed our lunches, the atmosphere of the burger joint, and were so happy that a sweet local pointed us in the right direction for a great lunch date.
Have you tried out any new lunch spots lately? Find any new favorites?

Hello, July!

07.09.12

Good evening, friends! It’s been a little over a week since my last blog post and I sure missed you all. While Scott was visiting I decided I would take a break from blogging and just focus on our time together. After being apart for more than a month, I really wanted to soak in every single second I could with him. I’m happy to say that we had a lovely holiday together, and I can’t wait to share some of our adventures with you all very soon!
So what have you all been up to lately? I can’t believe it’s already July!

Yesterday Was Perfect

06.30.12

Yesterday I waited ever so impatiently for him to walk off that airplane. He was running late, but I knew he would get here. I waited, and watched for that moment that I would finally see him walking around the corner. And then it happened, he turned the corner and our eyes locked. In that moment my heart felt so full and I instantly felt better than I had in the past month.
Here’s to another amazing day full of coffee, adventures, and love.
