Anchors Away

11.07.11
Happy Monday! This weekend was truly a great one! Scott and I spent lots of time with sweet friends, and got to be in downtown Phoenix quite a bit. It was definitely a win, win kind of weekend!

Not sure if I’ve mentioned this before, but I’ve always had an affinity for anything anchor related. When I saw this sweater on MAJOR sale this summer at Levi’s, I knew it had to be mine. I love the nautical feel of it, and also how incredibly cozy it is. When I ordered it I wasn’t expecting it to be so oversized, but I kind of love it for that. I’ve been waiting for a special, chilly day to bring it out, and now that the weather is amazing in Phoenix I knew it was time to do so.
Going along with my anchor/nautical theme, I’m wearing the incredibly sweet Tiffany’s anchor charm Scott gave me for our anniversary. When we were first dating we used to both wear anchors (they were a pair that we separated), and I love that I now have a new anchor to symbolize our everlasting love for one another. After all, the anchor is like one soul split into two, but always connected.

The leaves in Phoenix are killing it right now!

This week is yet another busy one, but I have a feeling that it’s going to be really great! I have lots of school work to get done, but I’m really looking forward to a few special.
The above photo of Scott makes me feel all warm and fuzz on the inside. I’m so glad that he’s my soulmate.

Today I have to finish up a paper that is due tomorrow, and also write a few things up for the blog. I also plan on bundling up, and drinking my favorite ice coffee.
What are you up to today? What makes you all warm and fuzzy on the inside?

Liberty Market Birthday Lunch

11.05.11
On Scott’s birthday we went to Liberty Market to celebrate. Liberty Market, along with Joe’s Farm Grill and Joe’s Real BBQ, offers a free meal to anyone on their birthday (up to $10!). Scott and I really couldn’t pass up a yummy meal at LB, so we headed down to Gilbert after Scott got off of class.

Scott got his favorite, the best chicken sandwich. He swears it really is the best!

I got my favorite as well, the farmer pressed sandwich with a side of sweet potato salad.

We both really enjoyed our meals, and had a very nice time celebrating Scott’s special day together. For dinner we went to Pita Jungle and both had really yummy dishes (their falafes are the best!). Going out to eat on our birthday’s is always special, and I feel a birthday isn’t complete without a good meal!
Do you have favorite restaurant you go to on your birthday? What are you up to today?

In Transition

11.04.11
I know I talk about the weather a lot, but seriously, Phoenix is so temperamental! Wednesday afternoon I was all bundled up, and Thursday I was wearing short sleeves comfortably. I’m not complaining though, because it’s allow me to dress in a transitional state. Yesterday just felt like a dress, knee high socks (hello Clueless and the 90’s), and black boots kind of day.

Yesterday Scott and I took a little time to get some iced coffee, and wander around a few stores. It felt so good to get out of my house and away from writing essays for a bit. I feel like a little me time always helps out when I’m stressed out about school. I may be taking away time from my work, but I always go back to it feeling better and able to put my mind to work better than when I left. Does anyone else feel the same way?

This weekend Scott and I have quite a few plans! Tonight we’re heading out to First Friday to visit with some old friends at Tilt Gallery. If you’re local, you should definitely stop by. It’s a great gallery with beautiful photography in it! Saturday we’re meeting up with Adrianna, the sweet lady behind Le Mode Accessories. I’m SO excited to see her and chat about something special we are working on! She seriously the sweetest lady. Sunday we’re having dinner with family and working on homework. Looks like it’s going to be a great weekend!

Outfit details:
Dress: Nordstroms
J necklace: Anthropologie
Polka dot socks: Hue
Boots: Steve Madden

Right now I’m obsessing over The Early November (happens every year), getting SO excited about amazing opportunities, and drinking way too much iced coffee.

What are you obsessing over? Any weekend plans?

One In The Same

11.03.11
Last week Scott joined the 23 club! When I first saw my sweet guy in the morning I realized that we were dressed so similarly! Black tops, skinny jeans, and TOMS. I swear we didn’t plan this, but I kind of enjoyed matching the birthday boy for the day.

Recently Scott and I have been shopping for a few winter pieces. The weather in Phoenix was amazing yesterday, and there was definitely a major breeze in the air. Both Scott and I bundled up in new sweaters, and contemplated getting hot drinks during our weekly stop at Lola Coffee (ok, maybe not, nothing can take me away from my iced coffee!).
I am truly so excited to see the temperatures go down. I feel that in the fall and winter my personal style really shines through. I’m a cozy sweater, cardigan layering, boot wearing kind of girl! Scott is also a big fan of layering, and lately he has been wearing the most handsome ensembles. Sometimes I see him and my heart goes pitter, patter. I feel so lucky to be in love with such a sweet, handsome man.
Lately Scott has been wearing the watch I gave him for our five year anniversary. It has tons of little dials in it, and is a lot less chunky than his other watch. For three of our five anniversaries I have given Scott a watch (pocket watch, interchangeable watch, and now this one), and I kind of love how it has become a bit of a tradition. Anniversaries (and love!) truly are the best!

On another note, this week has been a stressful one. School is kicking my butt and a take-home test gave me heartburn for two straight days. I have two papers due for the next two weeks, and more papers to start working on after that. I feel like I’m going to be pretty busy until the semester ends, but I’ll be excited to say I made it through my first semester of grad school when it does!

Phoenix Food Truck Festival

11.02.11
Last month Scott and I attended the Phoenix Food Truck Festival. We had been waiting for what seem forever for the festival to finally come, so when it did we were so excited to attend. We bought our tickets in-advance, and once we were inside we tried everything we could get our hands on. All the trucks were set to serve sample sizes of a few delicious items off of their every day menus. All you had to do was get in line (and sometimes there was a very long line) and they would handle you a sample of whatever deliciousness they were serving up.

Scott had the first sample of the afternoon. He had a hush puppy and gumbo!
For months now I have been seeing Beet Streat around and have been wanting to try it out. I was so excited when I saw they were at the Food Truck Festival, and I was loving everything on their menu.
This fall harvest soup was seriously the best.
We also ate delicious Filipino food right next door to Beat Street. I can’t wait to give this dish a second try one of these days. It was seriously SO good!
Our favorite Short Leash Dogs were at the festival as well! They had a HUGE line, but it was well worth the wait.
I had a corn dog, and Scott had their special pretzel bun bratwurst!
No big shocker, but my favorite food truck was Shine Coffee. This sweet little coffee shop sits inside a vintage airtream trailer, and the were serving up the most delicious espresso macchiatos!
I was so excited to see Mojo Bowl there as well! They make some of the best shaved ice in town!

My mom and uncle attended the festival with us. My mom’s favorite food truck is Torched Goodness (they serve up amazing creme brulee), so we were all very excited to pick up some yummy dessert from them. The line to get this delicious treat was crazy though!
He’s such a sweetie!
One of the last stops we made was at a truck from a local farm. They had the most amazing squash soup, and their macaroni balls were the best!
Before we headed out I had to make one more stop by the Shine Coffee trailer. I might have finished my macchiato and Scott’s as well! They were seriously the best!
Overall, I think the food truck festival was a complete success. There was a huge crowd of people inside and outside the gates. There was amazing food everywhere, and it was such a neat event to have in downtown Phoenix. I sure hope they have this festival again next year, but Scott and I will most certainly be there!
What are you up to today? If you’re local, did you go to the festival?

November 2011

11.01.11

“A thousand times a day I tell you I love the way you sing
Even though it makes me cry, it’s my favorite time to be alive
And all I know is I feel lost without you
“I miss you” is not enough
I know the story’s old; it’s been told a million times before
But to tell it feels so good
It reminds me that not all I do is right
And all I know is I feel so lost without you.” – 1,000 Times a Day // The Early November
It’s November and all I want to do is sing The Early November, drink my hot coffee and wrap up in cozy clothes. Here’s to a beautiful month.

Sunset Bridge

10.31.11

Happy Halloween! It’s one of my favorite days of the year! I’ve always loved Halloween, and the fall season has always held a special place in my heart. This year Scott and I don’t really have any big plans, but I hope we will be doing something fun to celebrate. After all, it is the spookiest day of the year!

This weekend seemed to go by so fast! On Friday we had a full day of celebrating Scott’s birthday! We went out for birthday lunch and dinner, did a little shopping, and ate delicious cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory. It really was such a lovely day! Most of Saturday and Sunday was spent doing homework, and running errands. On Saturday around sunset we did go out to Tempe to check out the new walking bridge that just opened. There was a chill in the air, and I couldn’t help bundling up in my favorite cardigan and new boots.

This wooden J was giving to me by (John) Scott as a part of my anniversary gift. Wood is the traditional five year anniversary gift, and it was so thoughtful of him to think of something like that. I absolutely love it!
I recently received these Jackie Boots from Blowfish Shoes. I’m in love with how light they are, and the full zipper is perfect. I foresee wearing them a lot this winter! I can’t believe it’s finally getting cold! ECK!
Scott and I both really love this new bridge. We’ve been waiting forever for it to open. It’s main purpose is to shade rubber “bladders” that hold our lake together, but it’s gorgeous, and taking a walk down down it during sunset is the best. I feel like we will be spending lots of time here this fall and winter, taking walks down it and around Tempe Town Lake.

Our views this evening was picture-esque. It was so gorgeous out, and the weather was perfect.
The little grey clouds on the top right were from fireworks that were going off during the big ASU Homecoming game. I’m not a big football fan, but I think it’s great that we won our game that night.
The sunset in the other direction was unreal. Scott and I must have taken a million photos between our camera and Iphone. It truly was a beautiful evening, and was exactly what I needed to refresh from my continuos study sessions.

Blouse: Gap
Necklaces: Anniversary gifts
Jeans: Levi’s

Do you have any spooky plans for Halloween? Do you have any traditions you do on All Hallow’s Eve? I’m looking for something special to do this evening!
Happy Halloween!

Fall Weekend

10.30.11
This weekend has been full of celebration, and overwhelming study sessions. Grad school is currently kicking my butt, but I know I will get through it. I wanted to stop in just to say hello, and to say I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend.

Overlooking the lake on the new bridge that just opened in Tempe.

“Happy in love.”
& because two is always better than one.
Here’s to being productive this afternoon, and hopefully having a little bit of fun later today!

Happy Birthday, Sunshine

10.29.11

Dear John Scott,

Happy Birthday, my dear! Today you are 23, and I feel so lucky to have been able to spend your last six birthdays with you.

Today was full of celebration, good food, time spent together, and yummy cheesecake.
I truly hope you had a wonderful day. Birthdays are always so special, and I cherish the fact that we get to spend all of our birthdays together. Celebrating with you is the only way to ring in a new year of life.
You are the most kind, loving, and gentle person I know. Thank you for taking care of me all the ways you do. I’m so thankful for your love.
Now that you’re 23-years-old you can no longer say that I am older than you, although, I guess you can argue that I will always been six months older than you. I think it’s time to cut the cougar stuff though, you’re old just like me now!
Happy Birthday, my love! Here’s to another wonderful year of life together! I just know 23 is going to be a great one for you.
Love,
Chelsea
