Abandoned Expression

10.27.11

I know I’ve said it before, but I’m saying it again, fall has finally come to Phoenix. It was in the 60’s this evening and the wind was blowing cool breezes through the city. A cardigan was just not enough to keep me warm. I don’t entirely want to get my hopes up, but I hope the cool weather sticks around now. I’m so ready for some good layering!

This week has just seem to wiz right by. Scott and I had such a nice anniversary (we even met a sweet blog reader while at Cibo for our dinner date!), and I’m so excited to continue our celebration today and tomorrow for Scott’s birthday. We’re taking Scott’s little sister out to the State Fair today and they’re going to ride the rides (I get sick). I’m pretty sure some kind of fair food will be eaten as well!

Lately I’ve been living in these Frye boots. I got them this summer in a small town outside of Vail, Colorado. I had always wanted a pair, so I decided it was finally time make the plunge and just get them. I have a feeling they’re going to last forever!
This abandoned, miss-matched painted mill is one my favorite buildings in Mesa! It has so much charm to it!
Outfit details:
Jean jacket: Levi’s
Blouse: Levi’s
Bracelets: Kate Spade and vintage
Jeans: Levi’s
Melissa button boots: Frye
Today I still have quite a bit of work to catch up on, and hope to be very productive before we leave for the fair later this evening. I will probably have a cup (or two) of Trader Joe’s pumpkin spice coffee, and might listen to Stay Up, Go Dancing by Death Cab for Cutie on repeat.
What are you up to today? Is it chilly where you live? What’s your favorite hot beverage? I’m in the mood to try something new!

Frocktober!

10.27.11

This evening I wanted to stop in to tell everyone about Frocktober! What’s Frocktober you’re asking? Frocktober is an effort to raise awareness and funds for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation in Australia.

(wearing one of my favorite frocks this summer.)
So how does someone participate in Frocktober? It’s so easy! You can host a frock swap (sounds like SO much fun), rock a frock for the rest of the month, or blog about your adventures wearing your frocks! Find out more ways to get involved here.
You can also check out the Frocktober dress at Modcloth! They will be donating 20% of the proceeds from the dress to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation in Australia. Even though October is almost out the door, it’s not too late to participate! It’s truly a great cause, and what a fun way to be involved!
Are you participating in Frocktober?

Levi’s Curve ID Mirror, Mirror Campus Tour at ASU

10.26.11

Last week I had the privilege of attending the Levi’s Mirror, Mirror Campus Tour when it came to ASU. I was invited to come check out the event, get fitted, and enjoy some sweet treats.

The event was for women, but Scott was so great and came along to take photos for me. I swear, I’m the luckiest lady alive (he’s always doing such nice things for me).

When we got there I got signed in via Ipad (so neat). After I was done I was taken up on the stage to get fitted. Levi’s has created this whole process of measuring your body for the perfect pair of jeans (for your body!). In the past I’ve been measured at my favorite Levi’s store and have tried on the jeans I was suggest (Demi Curve). The jeans fit really great, but I wasn’t crazy about them because I’m a Levi’s leggings girl for life.
This time around I was also suggested the Demi Curve, as well as the Bold Curve. At the event they had a boot cut Demi Curve, and a skinny leg Bold Curve for me to try on. I’m truly not a boot cut girl, so I went with the Bold Curve skinnies. The overall fit was pretty great, but I would prefer a higher rise and shorter length (which I hear they have at the stores).
After I was done trying on my jeans I voted for which scholarship fund I would want the money that Levi’s will either be donating to ASU or UofA to go (depending on who had the most people turn out for the event), and hit up the nail polish and candy bar for a sweet treat to-go.

The event overall was really great. I also could have had my hair and makeup done, but I had to run to get to a meeting! I’m really grateful that Levi’s invited me and that I was able to attend. If you’ve never been fitted for a pair of Curve IDs, I highly suggest you do so! If you’re local, you can get it done at the Levi’s store at Tempe Marketplace.
Outfit details:
Blouse: Levi’s
Skinnies: Levi’s
Purse: Fossil
Moccasins: Minnetonka’s
Today I have to go into school early and meet with my advisor/the director of my program to pick out classes for next semester. I also have quite a bit of reading to do, and will hopefully get to my emails!
What are you up to today? Have you been measured for your Curve ID?

Purusha Wear

10.25.11
First off I want to say thank you to everyone who wished Scott and I a happy anniversary yesterday. We had a lovely day, and the most perfect dinner date. I’m so lucky to have such a wonderful guy in my life!

So in honor of our love and anniversary we have a couples outfit post! These photos were taken pre-haircut, but I kind of love that. Scott and I are both rocking pieces from Purusha. The line was established in 2008 by a sweet lady named Hayley who wanted to create modern clothes for women (and men) that love both their body and minds. All the garments are domestically made, hand dyed, and hand screen printed by Hayley herself.

Both Scott and I are super impressed with the quality, and the thought behind the clothing. I’m rocking the Naomi Earth Mandala Wrap, and Scott is wearing a custom tee. I’m in love with the details and colors of both.
The quote on the back of Scott’s shirt is the best, it says “for small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love.” I feel like it’s pretty fitting right now in our lives (and forever, of course).
We wore these outfits to my evening class. As I mentioned in another post, I enjoy looking life myself and being comfy during my three hour, jam-packed class session. The wrap offered me that extra comfort and warmth that I needed while sitting in that chilly classroom.

If you haven’t checked out Purusha yet, I highly suggest you do so. I love that everything is of high quality, is all made domestically, and that the owner of the shop is so involved with every process.

Outfit details:

T-shirt: American Apparel
Jeans: Levi’s

Purusha grey t-shirt: c/o Purusha
Commuter Jeans: Levi’s
Sperry’s: Topsider
Today I have quite a bit of work to catch up on, so I will be dedicating most of my day to that. For now, I’m sipping iced coffee and trying to breathe during my “calm before the storm.”
What are you up to today? Have you heard of Purusha before?

Five Years of Love

10.24.11

Five years ago today Scott asked me to be his girlfriend in a parking lot in Tempe. Five years later we are so in love, and I am so incredibly thankful to have him in my life.
Thank you John Scott for loving me, caring for me, taking part in all of the crazy ideas/adventures I have (this blog being one of the many), and for always being so kind. You are the most wonderful human being I know, and I am so thankful to be able to say that you are mine.
Love,

October Weekend

10.22.11
This weekend is a busy one, but I’m enjoying it thoroughly. I started off Friday with a doctor’s appointment, but I headed over to AJ’s for a large iced illy americano to even out the morning. All of the pretty flowers and leaves (real ones that they had flown in // only in Arizona), really put me in the fall spirit for the rest of the day.

In the afternoon Scott and I took my uncle to Urban Cookies for a cookie and a cupcake at my favorite Phoenix sweet shop. Later in the evening we headed to Gilbert for dinner at Joe’s Farm Grill, and dessert at The Coffee Shop. Overall, it was a lovely day.
Today we’re going to the Phoenix Food Truck Festival and I couldn’t be more excited!
What are you up to today? If you’re local, are you going to the festival?

Green Downtown

10.21.11
Last weekend Scott and I stopped in at the newly opened Green Vegetarian in downtown Phoenix. For over a year now we had been hearing this location was going to be open, but it wasn’t until the last two months that we knew that it would really be happening. We were excited to check out the new space, and chow down on some delicious vegan food.

I got my regular, the sweet and sour bowl with brown rice and crispy tofu, and Scott got the same but with noodles and mock chicken. We also got a Kombucha (think fermented tea meets sparkling water) to share. I had heard about this wonder drink through Sarah, and was curious to give it a try. It’s definitely a little different, but very good.

I unfortunately didn’t get any photos of the space, but the restaurant is in a tiny house and has a pretty wood wall and spiral staircase (To where? I’m not even sure). It’s definitely much smaller than the Tempe location (and the parking situation is kind of awful), but I think it’s really nice to have my favorite vegan restaurant so close to my favorite part of the city now. Scott and I will definitely be going back soon!

Today my plans are a bit scattered, but I do have a doctor’s appointment and will hopefully be stopping by Regular Gallery tonight to check out the map exhibit that my editor, Claire, from Jackalope Ranch put together. If you’re local you should definitely stop by!
What are you up to today? Have you ever tried Kombucha?

Flickering Season

10.20.11

Fall seems to come and go here in Phoenix. For the last week they have been promising us temperatures in the 80’s, but every time I see the forecast it changes, making the cooler days further away. However, I’m pretty sure some of the trees have caught on to the weather trend and just decided to stick with the cooler weather, making them go the prettiest colors I’ve ever seen. If only they would turn red though, that is my dream to see a beautiful red tree! One day!

This week has gone by just so fast. Last night I had my weekly class and even though it went a little over the regular class time (5-8 p.m.), I still enjoyed it. As the weeks go along I am finding my new topic of study easier to relate to, and are finding more ways to relate it to journalism (which makes me happy). I’m feeling really great right now about my course of study (Communication Studies), and only hope it continues to get better from here on out.
After my class Scott and I stopped by The Duce in Phoenix to meet-up with some friends and local bloggers. It was our first time visiting The Duce, and we were more than impressed with it. The space is huge, and the shop is kind of a store/soda shop/bar/pie place/hang out spot all rolled into one. Dustin of Indie Stitch put together the tweet-up, and I’m already excited to attend the next one! If you’re local, you should definitely attend the next one as well. Who doesn’t love sweet venues, Phoenix style, and real life blogger friends!
I feel like I just need to say that my guy is the greatest. He really is!
Outfit details:
Flannel: Levi’s
Jeans: Levi’s
Today I’m meeting up with an old friend who is helping me out with an assignment (she’s the sweetest), and then tonight I’m going to pick my uncle up from the airport! He is coming to visit from Seattle and I hope he brings me some mountain bars (anyone know what I’m talking about?).
What are you up to today? What are you most looking forward to this weekend?

Mother Nature’s Pumpkin Patch

10.19.11
Over the weekend Scott and I went to Mother Nature’s Farm in Gilbert, Arizona. Last year we went to the farm and had so much fun, so this year we decided to continue with the tradition and spend a little time roaming around the cute farm in the middle of the city.
I wanted to dress very fall appropriate, so I wore my new pumpkin spice dress from Lulus, and paired it a pair of We Love Colors tights and my favorite motorcycle boots from last fall. I love matching my surroundings and the seasons when I can, so it was really fun to dress up for our little outing.

I truly can’t believe we’re already into mid-October. My favorite month always seems to go by way too fast. Lately, though, Scott and I have been really getting into the spirit and taking part in as many fall activities as we can. This outing was definitely up there (who doesn’t love a sweet little farm and pumpkins), but I think going to Schnepf farms for the corn maze and spooky train ride has definitely been my favorite fall outing. Promise to blog about it soon!

This dress was just a little out of my comfort zone (didn’t I say that about the dress I wore yesterday?), but I’m really loving it! The low back is fun, and I adore how the dress sways back and forth (it kind of reminds me of a cheerleading skirt). I felt very feminine and confident in it. I feel like every women needs a great dress like this that they can feel so great in. It’s kind of like that old saying, if you feel good in your clothes your going to feel equally as good and confident on the inside!

Scott was such a good sport and had some fun at the farm as well. Our anniversary is Monday and I’m so excited to celebrate! Each and every year with this guy has been so amazing and special, and I’m so excited to see where our life takes us in the next few years!
Aren’t these pumpkins SO adorable? It was so hard not to take a couple home! Right now we have three large ones, but I’m thinking we still need a few small ones. I kind of adore the white ones and well, and have you seen the pretty red pumpkins/gords they have at Trader Joe’s? So pretty!
