Bricks and Polka Dots

10.18.11

The other day my hair did something kind of silly, it reverted back to the way I wore it in my teen years (major side part). After I decided to let my full on bangs grow out around age 20, I decided to go with the middle part (for a more grown up/bohemian look). Since then my side part has only made an appearance when my hair is dirty and I need to throw it up and get it out of my face.

The whole time Scott and I were taking these photos he was giggling. We met when we were 18 (ok, he was still 17 for a little bit), so Scott remembers my hair like this. He just thought it was so funny to see me look like my 18-year-old self. Really not that much about me has changed!

I was definitely loving the way I felt in this outfit. Very feminine, and kind of like a little doll. The sweet folks at Chicwish sent me this pretty, polka dotted, peter pan dress. The dress length is a bit shorter than I usually wear, but with my tan We Love Colors tights, I felt just fine. Not to mentioned, I’m loving my Cuvette flats from Blowfish Shoes. They added a little pop of neutral color to my ensemble. It was definitely fun to dress up a little bit with this outfit, and I’m thinking Scott and I need to go out for a date night so I can wear it again.

Early this afternoon I’m heading down to Hassayampa Pavilion on the Tempe campus to attend the Levi’s Curve ID Mirror, Mirror Campus Tour event. If you’re a student and live locally, be sure and come check out the event!

Wonderwall

10.17.11

Oh my, the weekend went by quick! Scott and I had some fun in downtown Phoenix on Saturday, but the day really didn’t go as plan (aren’t those usually the best days though?). We headed downtown to have some nachos at Nachobot, but apparently they don’t open until 6 p.m. (and are open until 4 a.m.!), so we ended up at our favorite vegan restaurant for some linner (lunch + dinner).

After our linner we drove back down to Roosevelt to check out the Phoenix Maker Faire. We both had thought that we really wanted to go, but after seeing what they had going on, we decided to skip the faire and just spend a little time in the area visiting our friends at the Grow Op.
It was quite warm in Phoenix this day. I’m pretty upset with our weather patterns lately. I’m so ready for a cool down. My boots and sweaters are slightly mad at me because I’ve been neglecting them. Maybe this upcoming weekend we will get a break. A chilly day for the Phoenix Food Truck Festival sounds great!
This week is going to be yet another busy one. I have quite a bit of work to get done for my classes, and a few things to pull together for my blog and Jackalope Ranch. On Thursday my uncle is coming to visit from Seattle, so I’m sure there will be some fun had. I’m excited to take him to all of my favorite local restaurants!

Moments in Light

10.15.11

The last few days have been packed with wonderful outings. I plan on sharing them all with you very soon, but for now I wanted to share these two photos with you that Scott and I took while in downtown Phoenix, right next to this historic building that currently houses the Phoenix Design Museum.

Even though they are quite dark, I’m still in love with them. In a little over a week we will have been a couple for five years. I can’t believe how quickly the time has gone by. I know I’ve said this before, but it’s so true. I’m so thankful for Scott’s love, and I can’t imagine my life without him.
Today we are heading out to Maker Faire in downtown Phoenix, and hopefully stopping by NachoBot (Jobot Coffee’s new shop) for some yummy nachos.
What are you up to today? What are you thankful for?

Pumpkin Picking

10.14.11
Yesterday Scott and I went to our local Trader Joe’s to pick up our pumpkins for the season. Sometimes we get them from a pumpkin farm, but this year we spotted them for an amazing price ($2.99) and thought it would be fun to pick up some other fall goodies to celebrate.
We were both really impressed with Trader Joe’s selection of pumpkins. Sometimes even at the pumpkin farm they can be rotten and moldy (I’m pretty sure the heat does it to them), so it was really nice to see such fresh pumpkins. If it were up to me we would have boughten twenty to decorate, but we settled with three (and some pumpkin goodies from inside).

These red gourds were my favorite! We didn’t end up getting one, but they just scream fall.
Lately I’ve been seeing these pumpkin trees everywhere! All of my favorite coffee shops are decorating their tables with them, and I am just loving that. They seriously are the most darling plants!
While at Trader Joe’s we also picked up pumpkin pancake mix, pumpkin spice coffee (I caved!), and butternut squash soup. In fact, I’m going to brew up some of that coffee right now!
Later today we’re headed out to a pumpkin farm for some fall fun, and possibly making a trip downtown.
What are you up to today? Have you purchased your pumpkins yet?

Feeling Like Fall

10.13.11

October seems to be flying by already! I haven’t even had a chance to watch hocus pocus yet? Today my schedule is a little more lax, so I think a trip to pick up a pumpkin and some time to watch hocus pocus is in order (while sipping hot apple cider, of course).

A few weeks ago I purchased this handmade, Rosemary shirt from Vanilla and Lace. I had coveting over her design since I first saw a few sneak peaks on her blog, so one evening I decided to purchase one of her pretty tops. I’m loving the sweet peter pan collar, and the warm fall color.
It has the sweetest keyhole back! I just love all the detail in it, and I’m very impressed with the great quality. If you’ve been thinking about purchasing a garment from Vanilla and Lace, I say go for it! You won’t be disappointed!

Lately I’ve been thinking about fall traditions, and how I would love to start a new one. Do any of you have fall traditions?

Today I have to work on some school work, and a few pieces from Jackalope Ranch. Other than that, I think today is for fall fun and I’m so excited to celebrate with my love.

Fall Nostalgia

10.12.11
It’s October and all I want to be is happy. This month is my favorite out of the whole year and something I more than look forward to. Lately school and stomach issues have been getting me down, but I’m determined to live this month to the fullest.

We’ve been blessed with some chilly weather lately (although, today it’s supposed to be 99 degrees), and I’ve gotten to bundle up more than once. Even though it’s cooling down, my favorite drink is still iced coffee. Although, the apple cider Scott and I bought at Trader Joe’s is coming in at a close second.
I’ve truly been obsessing over anything that is fall related, and hope to pick up a pumpkin or two at Trader Joe’s tomorrow (they are having selling them for such a good price right now!). I also heard somewhere online that their pumpkin coffee is really good, so I almost want to give it a try (I’m totally not a flavored coffee kind of person, but now I’m curious).

A few of the leaves here have been playing tricks on us (although, the cold last weekend might have scared them colorful). Usually the leaves don’t change colors here until December, but the chill in the air might be convincing them otherwise.

Today I have quite a few things to check off of my to-do list, but I’m going to do it with an iced coffee in hand and the nostalgia of fall on my mind.
What are you up to today? What do you love about October most?

Grad School Style

10.11.11

If you were to ask me to describe my style, I would probably say casual. I love a good skinny jean, and a blouse. But ever since I got more into personal style blogging (its been over a year now!) I’ve seen my interest in more feminine items really rise up. However, I still feel like I would describe my style as casual, but with some indie/boho/feminine style mixed in there as well.

I wore this outfit to my only in-person class. I’m not 100 percent sure, but I’m pretty positive that I’m the youngest person in my program (and maybe the only one in my class without a nine to five). So whenever I get to class I see my peers all wearing business attire clothing, and think to myself maybe I should be wearing something similar. Then I look at my professor and he’s wearing an outfit he probably purchased at REI, and feel better. I am who I am, and I am perfectly ok with that.
It’s still so crazy to think I am actually in grad school. In the past week I’ve had two people tell me that they thought I just graduated high school (and also one lady that couldn’t believe I was 23). I am very happy that I’m on this path though so young in life, and that come two years I will have a Master’s degree and be done with school (maybe) and be able to walk into the next chapter in my life.
Today is another busy day. I have a meeting, school work, and a fun evening with some sweet friends planned. I’m also hoping to squeeze in some outfit photos somewhere in there, and catch up on a few days. I might need to be drinking some apple cider while doing most of this. Scott and I bought the most delicious apple cider the other night at Trader Joes and it tastes like fall in a cup! YUM!
