City Corn Fields

10.10.11

Happy Monday! I didn’t mean to take a mini blogging break, but this weekend was just so busy, busy that I didn’t get home until 1 a.m. most evenings, and then I was just too tired to get something going. Excuses, excuses…I know. I’m back though and happy that it’s another beautiful fall day!

Anyways, before the crazy weekend Scott and I headed out for a little drive to visit some pretty corn fields. These fields are actually pretty crazy, because they are right in the middle of the city. Not exactly where you think a huge field of corn would be!
The weather was perfectly cool, so I wrapped up in a pretty new sweater and some fall essentials. Right now I’m truly obsessing over anything pumpkin color, and wish this fall nostalgia would stick around all year long.
Today I have to spend some time catching up on homework I wasn’t able to get to over the weekend, and “attend” my online class. I’m also hoping to finalize some plans for some pumpkin patch fun! There is the sweetest pumpkin patch not too far from my home, and Scott and I had so much fun going there last year.

Levi’s Wall

10.07.11

Awhile back Scott told me about this wall that he had spotted while driving through old downtown Chandler. He said that it had an old Levi’s sign on it, and that we should go check it out sometime (I love old signs and murals). So the other day we headed down to Chandler for a little peek at it.

It was scorching hot this afternoon. I literally thought I was going to melt. It’s supposed to be cool in October, right? Well since this day the temperatures have come down quite a bit, but I hear they are going to go back up again soon. I crave for the days of gloomy skies, chilly winds, and hot drinks in hands.

The sign is pretty awesome. I have no idea how long it has been there, but I think it’s neat that the store that now occupies it made a point to leave the old signage visible. It’s a little piece of history, and from a company that is near and dear to my heart.

Nami Coffee + Sweets Shop

10.06.11
Recently, Scott and I checked out the newly opened Nami coffee + sweet shop. For about a year now we have heard that our favorite local vegetarian restaurant, Green, would be opening a second location in downtown Phoenix, but we had no idea they would be opening up a second shop right next door. So when I heard last week that Nami was open, I knew Scott and I had to check it out ASAP!

The shop is in an old, historic home and has been converted into the cutest space. I think it’s so neat that Green has been expanded, and that they now sell coffee (which I need to try out soon), as well as pastries and their famous soynamis.
I’m still on this huge Instagram (username: Chelseabirdd) kick. Scott think it’s cute to get photos of me Instagramming it up. I think it’s cute to take photos of him and post them to Instagram. Two peas in a pod we are.
Scott and I shared a cheddar and chive scone. The scone had a lot of flavor and would be great with your morning coffee.
Scott and I also each got a soynami (soy ice cream + toppings). We’ve been eating soynamis from Green for years now, so when we heard they had them at Nami we knew we had to go out and treat ourselves to some delicious soy ice cream. I got the “Oh, Ginger Snap” (lemon flavor + ginger cookies), and Scott got the “El Capitan” (strawberries + captain crunch cereal).
If you live locally you should definitely check out Nami. It’s located right next to the new Green location in Phoenix, and has great hours (I love when shops are open late in Phoenix). Scott and I will definitely be stopping by Nami again soon!
Have you ever been to Green or Nami? What’s your favorite sweet treat?

Writer’s House

10.05.11
Since it’s fall, it’s only natural that I crave chilly weather, pumpkin everything, and pretty foliage. Well, since I can only obtain a few of those things here in Phoenix, I am constantly dreaming about a New England fall. Every since I was young I have dreamed about taking a New England road trip during fall to see all the pretty leaves, enjoy the cool weather, and take in some of the history of the surrounding areas. I’m hoping in a year or two I can make this trip possible with Scott by my side and my camera in hand.
Recently Scott and I were on the ASU Tempe campus. The campus itself is filled with buildings from different eras of designs, and has so many trees lining the whole campus. Generally there are way too many people on campus and walking around seems crazy, but this evening was calm, a little cool, and there was a sweet breeze in the air. Scott and I decided to stop by the Virginia G. Piper Writer’s House where they have the prettiest garden area, and a time capsule buried in the ground (how amazing). The capsule wont be open until 2105, which stinks because I’m so curious as to what’s in it!
While we were taking these photos Scott was making me laugh so hard with his silly poses. He is always so encouraging while we take outfit photos, and definitely has an eye for how he thinks the photos should look. I just love him.
The sweet folks from Wanted Shoes were kind enough to send me these Pioneer boots in Brown from their Fall collection. I’ve been wanting a pair of tall, lace-up boots for awhile now, so I figured these would be the perfect pair for me. They are extremely comfy (not stiff like some boots can be), and fit perfectly (seriously). I really love them, and see them making a heavy appearance in my fall wardrobe!

This week is busy, busy, but it was so nice to take a little stroll with Scott. We enjoyed the nice weather, and stomped through the leaves we spotted near the Writer’s House. Oh fall, I just love you!

Historical Phoenix

10.04.11

Phoenix is still hot, hot, but I’m not going to let that get me down. Scott and I have been spending lots of in Phoenix lately and my heart is so content. Last week we drove around the more industrial and historical area of Phoenix where we spotted lots of cute buildings we had never seen before, and the prettiest old billboard painted on brick. Finding little gems like that makes me so happy.

Phoenix truly is an amazing city, full of old charm and new hopes. It’s so great to see new businesses popping up all over the place, and to see many people in the city. I can only imagine how great Phoenix is going to be come ten years.
On Sunday Scott and I went to a special screening of Urbanized at the Harkins Valley Art theater. The documentary focused on urban living and how so many large cities are poorly planned out, which leaves room for slums, poor walking/biking conditions, etc., and because of those factors and many others, the whole community suffers. The director, Gary Hustwit, was in attendance, and it was so neat to hear him talk after the film and to see him around. If you’re not familiar with Urbanized (he literally finished it three weeks ago), you might know his other films, Helvetica, and Objectified.
Seeing Urbanized made me really think about the city I live in and how I wish things were a little different. I truly want that “city” feel where you can walk anywhere and be friendly with everyone in your community. Phoenix isn’t really there yet, but I sure hope one day it will be this amazing walking city.
In other news, I just bought my tickets for the Phoenix Food Truck Festival later this month! It’s going to be SO amazing and I can’t wait to try out something from each food truck. If you live locally, are you planning on attending? If you purchase your tickets before the 10th they’re only $25 ($35 day of). Scott and I already can’t wait!

St. Francis Dinner Date

10.02.11
Spending the evenings in Phoenix is one of my favorite things to do (ok, when don’t I love being there really?). So last week Scott and I went on a sweet little dinner date to one of the cutest restaurants in the city, St. Francis.

Scott and I have only been to St. Francis once, and that was for our anniversary last year. When we went we had the most amazing pumpkin soup, and since fall is upon us (well, elsewhere, it’s still too hot here) I figured they would have it again. So of course I had to convince Scott that we needed to go on a dinner date there for that amazing soup.

The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating, but since it was so humid out we opted to sit inside. The atmosphere in there is just wonderful, and I loved spending some quality time with my love.
Unfortunately they didn’t have the amazing pumpkin soup, but they did have a mushroom soup, so Scott and I each got one and a flatbread pizza to share.
The presentation of our soups was great. If my food looks nice, I’m probably going to enjoy it just that much more. The soup itself was delicious, and very filling. Sitting there sipping it away it actually felt fall. Oh happy day!
Our flatbread was equally delicious. The sauce was sweet, and the thin crust was perfect. I swear, give me a good pizza and I will be happy forever.
If you live locally I highly suggest checking out St. Francis. The food is delicious, and the atmosphere is wonderful. Perfect for a date night, or for a sweet celebration!
On a side note, we have been having the most amazing sunsets here lately. I’m pretty thankful to be able to enjoy them each and every evening.
What are you up to today? What’s your favorite restaurant?

The Bright Side

10.01.11

Happy October. I wanted to say thank you all for the very sweet comments on my post yesterday. I’m happy to say the procedure went very well, and the worst part was probably the IV (I hate needles). I had to be sedated (first time) while they were checking out my insides, and I think it’s so strange that I don’t remember a thing about it. I’m pretty thankful for that though because I feel like I might have gagged up the scope, or continue to ball my eyes out (I was really nervous).

I haven’t gotten all of the results back yet, but I do know that I have a different type of acid reflux (one that isn’t burning holes in me) and that I’m being put on new medication to help me out. I also learned that I’m allergic to shrimp aka the only kind of fish I will eat haha.
I feel very thankful to have had my mom and Scott there with me through the whole ordeal. I’m a very lucky lady.
Anyways, I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend! Enjoy this beautiful season!

Scope

09.30.11

For the past two, almost three years I have been dealing with intense heart burn and stomach issues. I’ve been diagnosed with IBS (irritable bowl syndrome), ARD (acid reflux disease), and have severe allergies to the environment. And although I’m on quite a few medications for all of this, I’m still not getting better. So today I’m having a scope done (down the throat and into my stomach) to see exactly what is going on. I didn’t really want to write about this (had a sweet restaurant review instead), but I just can’t get mind my off of it.

I’ll be at the hospital for most of the morning and afternoon. I would love it if you could keep me in your thoughts. I know this is a very routine procedure, but in my life I have not been through anything quite like this.
Thank you so much.

Five Years Later

09.29.11

Five years ago today I walked into a coffee shop and met the man of my dreams. He was tall, dark haired, and was wearing monster hands (no really, he was). We didn’t talk much, but I already knew that he was the one for me. Five years later we are so in love and I couldn’t imagine my life without him.
Love you John Scott.
