Glenwood Adventure!

07.20.11
Even though Scott has been back home for over a week now, I still have so many stories and photos I want to share from our adventures together. So today we’re going to go back to Glenwood Springs, CO. After Scott and I’s hike to Doc Holiday’s grave we went to downtown Glenwood for a treat and a nice walk around town.

We ended up stopping at a local cupcake shop that I had tweeted about trying to go to once (it was closed when I last tried to stop by). The shop is actually half cupcake shop, half lingerie shop. The overall feeling of the store was a bit strange, but the cupcakes were delicious!

My chai tea cupcake, and his red velvet cupcake!
After we finished our cupcakes we headed down the street, stopping by the prettiest brick wall that I “ohh” and “awwh” at every time I see it.
Last summer Scott and I took photos in front of this same wall, so I figured it was only appropriate to do the same this year.
Happy together!
Our last stop of the day was the Glenwood Springs Hot Springs pool! We first walked on the bridge that goes right alongside the front of the pool so we could see get a pretty view of the it, and also of the big river that the bridge goes right over.
Scott and I spent the rest of the afternoon lounging by the pool, eating frozen lemonade and ice cream together. We both got a little too much sun, but we really had a wonderful time. If you’re ever in the area you should definitely check out the Glenwood natural hot springs pool!

What’s your favorite kind of cupcake? Have you ever been in a natural hot springs pool before?

Country Royalty

07.19.11
Since being in Colorado I’ve spent a lot of time around cute farmers, pretty horses, and rodeos (although, I have not attended any). The other day I felt like dressing up and going on a walk around a local horse stables. Most of the horses were out (rodeo days), but it was still fun to look around and admire the pretty animals that I did see. I kind of felt like one of those rodeo queens walking around in such pretty clothes in a horse stable!
I went for a classic look with this outfit. A pretty blouse, skinny jeans, and flats may be my favorite combo ever. You know how in the interviews I feature on my blog I ask, “if you had to choose when outfit to wear the rest of your life, what would it look like?” Well, this outfit pretty much sums up my answer!
The sweet folks at Threadcase sent me this beautiful blouse. The lace detail and sheer fabric makes me feel so dainty. It really is such a classic piece (just my style).
On a side note, every time I see these shoes in my closet I giggle a bit. I bought them four, five, maybe even six years ago on a whim. I thought they were really pretty, and completely out of my comfort zone. Recently I decided I really should wear them, since they are Steve Madden and still look new after all these years. I’m pretty sure somehow I knew when I bought these that I would love them one day, I just needed time.

Yesterday Threadcase launched their new site look, and I have to say, it’s lovely! Liz of Srsly Liz did the design and she did such a great job! If you haven’t checked out the Threadcase site, you most definitely should now! They have such lovely blouses and dresses in their shop! Right now I have my eye on the Grapevine Top, and the Southern Charmer Dress!

This week is my last week in Colorado, then I’m off to Utah, Wyoming, and finally home! This summer feels like it has been very long, but has gone by quick at the same time. I already can’t wait to get home and get back into my normal routine (although, a new school + new degree studies won’t be normal at all!).

Outfit details:

Jeans: Levi’s
Studded wedges: Steve Madden
Have you ever ventured around horse stables, or been to a rodeo before? What’s your favorite piece in the Threadcase shop?

Now accepting sponsors for the month of August!

07.18.11

July has been a wonderful month. I’ve spent a lot of time venturing around in Western Colorado (with my love for part of it!), snapping outfit photos in breathtaking locations and checking out all of the local hot spots (again, and again). I’ve enjoyed sharing all of these moments with you all so much, and can’t wait to share the last few weeks of my summer adventure, and all about my transition into a grad school student.
August is going to be a VERY exciting month. I will be visiting Utah and Wyoming, and wrapping up my summer on the road. I will also be hopping on a jet plane home to Arizona, where I will be reunited with my love. I’ll be spending lots of time going to all of my favorite places that I’ve missed so much, and attending my very first grad school class! ECK!
I would love to have you as a sponsor next month! It’s going to be a great one!

Crested Butte

07.18.11
Last week my mom and I made a little trip up to Crested Butte, CO. We headed up the mountain to check out the cute little shops they have up the main street in town, and to grab a bite to eat.

When we got to Crested Butte the town was hopping (lunch + sunshine=perfect time to be out around town), and we had to drive around a bit to find a parking spot. When we finally found a spot I realized we were right next to my favorite house in town, one that is covered in old license plates!

Last summer when I visited Crested Butte for the first time I was blown away by this home, and found it completely unique and right up my alley.
The part of the building where I was standing for these photos is a private residence, but if you go right around the side of it you run into the cutest, tiniest coffee shop. While were there I tried to pick up a cup of joe, but the line to get in was out the door!

The sweet team over at Shop Strut sent me their lovely Desert Sands Tunic. The sheer fabric it’s made out of is perfect for a summer’s afternoon (cool and breezy in the wind), and the print + name leaves me with a feeling of home. After all, I do live in the desert!

I paired my pretty tunic and jeans with my Blowfish Shoes Gimmik sandals. I definitely felt extra tall, and slightly 1970’s in them (which I loved). They really are the perfect summer sandal!
So before I go I want to say thank you to my sweet mom for taking these outfit photos for me. It was her first try and I have to say that she did a pretty good job! Thanks, Mom! You’re the best!

Sunnies: Ray Bans
Desert Sands Tunic: c/o Shop Strut

Moca Joe’s

07.16.11
Moca Joe’s is another one of those coffee shops I have been going to for years now. It’s clean, highly decorated, and serves really good iced coffee.

This shop is kind of darling, and has lots of little places to sit. It’s the perfect place to spend the afternoon blogging (which is exactly what I did).

I just adore the wood floors and pretty vintage style chairs that sit right there in the brightly lit window.

This particular day I got a small iced coffee, which was pretty good. A few days later I came back and got a large iced coffee with two shots of espresso in it, which was even better.

It was nice and cool in there, and the staff was friendly and just let me sit and be. It really was the perfect place to spend my afternoon.
Do you have a coffee shop you always go to when you go out of town?

Mouse’s Chocolates & Coffee

07.15.11
Our second to last stop in Ouray, CO was Mouse’s Chocolates & Coffee. Last year this sweet shop had just opened and I had to coerce Scott into splitting some chocolate with me. This year, though, I had no problem convincing him that we need to go in and get something here.
We split one of these everything cookies. It was probably the best cookie I’ve had in my life! It was full of chocolate, nuts, butterscotch sauce, etc! It was seriously so delicious!
Last year we each had one of those white chocolate cranberry and apricot bars. I remember it being delicious, but decided it would be best to try something new this year!
Once I saw the fudge I knew I was in trouble. I have a serious love for fudge, maybe because my grandma makes batches and batches of it from Thanksgiving to Christmas and I never seem to get enough of it! Scott pointed out to me that they had a mint fudge (two of my favorite things EVER), so we got a chunk and split it between the two of us.
They also had a full coffee bar in the shop. Some of there signature drinks sounded quite appealing. They even had a dirty hippie (iced chai + espresso shots aka my favorite drink years ago), but we just opted for water.
The both really loved the cookie and the fudge. This shop is definitely a place that should be visited at least once a year (I am sure I would be there way more if I lived nearby).
Scott doesn’t look like he’s enjoying that fudge at all, does he? hehe
Our last stop I didn’t get any photos of, unfortunately. We spent about two hours in a natural hots springs pool relaxing and taking in the scenery. For the first 20 minutes or so that we were there it rained, but since the water was so warm the rain didn’t bother us at all. We really enjoyed our time there and would definitely suggest to anyone visiting in the area that you make a stop at the hot springs pool!

Doc Holiday’s Grave

07.14.11
During Scott’s visit we drove to Glenwood Springs, CO. For years now I have been telling him about how when I was younger I hiked up to Doc Holiday’s grave site a few times. This year we decided it was a must to make the hike up to the old cemetery together (which happens to sit on the top of a high mountain).

The path to the cemetery sits along a cute neighborhood. The hike is pretty much straight up, but the view from the top is so lovely. You can see the whole valley from up there!
The cemetery is full of old headstones dating back to the early to mid 1800’s. There were also a few here and there that were from the early 1900’s as well. This may sound kind of morbid, but I totally love all of the old headstones. It’s amazing how long they have lasted, especially up there on the top of that mountain!

The fence Scott is standing next to contains a very long, flat headstone. This was one of the most interesting ones we saw while up there!
And here he is, well, here is his memorial stone! As the above stone says Holiday is buried someplace in the cemetery, but not necessarily in this plot. He could be in an unmarked grave (there are lots of those up there), or he could have slid down the side of the mountain during a storm (I once heard a story like this from a local).

Since we were going to be spending the day in Glenwood and walking basically every where, I decided to go for a comfy, yet classic outfit. Recently Five Bamboo sent me this black mini skirt and I have to say, it was the perfect piece for my day out on the town (and mountain). The skirt is super soft, and breathable (which was great because I definitely was sweating hiking up that mountain). Plus, I felt pretty while making my way up that mountain (and throughout the rest of the day, of course).

The wildflowers up on the mountain were so beautiful! I wish we had wildflowers like those in Phoenix!

The cemetery is full of twists and turns that can lead you one way or another. While walking around I tried to stay close to Scott, as I would have hated to get lost up there in that old, possibly haunted, cemetery.

Up on the mountain they had the biggest dandelions, and Scott couldn’t resist playing with one!

On our way back down we stopped to take in the view of the mountain town.

They have a bench up there where you can take a rest for a minute or two. However, the bench is awfully close to the edge of the cliff and was a little too scary for me, so I opted just to take the photos!

Adventures in Ouray!

07.13.11
For the second summer in a row Scott and I visited Ouray, Colorado. Ouray is a pretty mountain town that has cute shops, little cafes, and a natural hot springs pool. Last year Ouray was one of our favorite stops, and this year we enjoyed it just as much. We did, however, get caught in the rain without the proper attire, but we made it work with our giant umbrella and walking arm in arm (I sure didn’t mind!).

The town really only has one main road that you can wander down, so in the on and off pouring rain we walked along both side of the streets. Occasionally we stopped in a store, most mountain gear/apparel shops and cafes, oh, and that weird boutique that had an upstairs that Scott could barely stand in because he hit his head on the roof and had a basement that made me feel dizzy.
Last summer we had lunch at this bar/grill at the end of town, so this year we decided to stop in to get out of the rain and to share a snack.
We split an iced tea and sweet potato fries and then went on our way, back out into the rain to explore some more.

We stopped in a book store that sold new and used books, along with a few antiques. Most of the antiques were pretty unique, but the most interesting item was this gas mask that was in the original box and had the instructions still stuck inside. Definitely a creepy find! Would you believe a few days later I saw a very similar gas mask in an antique store 100 miles away? Well, I did!
The bookstore was connected to a fancy hotel that dates back to the late 1800’s. We wandered around a little bit, but because the light was so poor inside I didn’t really end up with any good photos. However, the outside is just as beautiful as the inside! I just love historic buildings!

Before we headed out of Ouray we made two more stops along the way, but your’e going to have to wait just a little bit to hear more about what we did!
He seriously makes my heart swoon!
Have you ever visited Ouray before? What’s your favorite road trip snack?

Abandoned Colorado

07.12.11
Last week Scott and I drove up a long and winding rode to Durago, Colorado. On the beginning of our drive we spotted these beautiful, abounded homes in the middle of nowhere, so on our way back we decided to pull over the car and explore a little.

Scott was all in for exploring, however, I was a little apprehensive. I grabbed his hand though and made my way down the hill.

This notice basically said that people watch over these homes and that it was ok to look, but leave everything as it was. Seeing this sign made me feel a little better, as I knew that it was on someone’s radar.

The homes themselves were absolutely beautiful, peeling paint and all. I’m not quite sure how long the homes have been there, or how long they have been abandoned, but I loved being surrounded by the ghost of the past.

This house was full of old school lockers and not much else.

I am almost positive one of the reasons these homes were abandoned was because they are starting to fall of the side of a cliff. One day this home will probably be washed away by the rain and will fall onto the highway. I hope someone takes care of it before then!
The homes were breathtaking and it was so neat to venture around with nobody but just us around. If I was more brave I probably would have gone inside and looked around, although, I am pretty sure these homes were very unstable and I would have hated to have some kind of accident in there. It all reminds me of a terrible horror movie in the making.

This pole was the only way that we could get from one side to another. I was so happy to have not fallen in the water (it wasn’t that deep though).

Adventures with Scott are truly the best and I’m so happy that we made the stop. This was one of my favorite times with Scott while he was here, and is something I will remember for the rest of my life!

Love was certainly in the air on this romantic, afternoon adventure.
