STARRY SEPTEMBER

09.19.14

We’re now half way through September and I feel like this month is just getting better and better! The weather has been amazing with lots of cloud cover, rain showers and cool(er) weather. I’ve been drinking lots of pumpkin iced coffees, spending time with our pups, and digging out my favorite fall wardrobe pieces. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have also read that I started a new job on Monday! I’m very excited for this amazing opportunity, and have been spending the week getting acclimated, learning the ropes and making daily coffee runs to keep me awake and alert (10 points to anyone gets that musical reference! Local peeps?).

Tonight, Scott and I are taking maternity photos for my cousin and her husband! They’re due on Valentine’s Day and just found out the sex of the baby today (!!!), so we’re going to take some sweet announcement photos for them to share. Girl or boy? Girl or boy? What will it be! I may actually already know, but my lips are sealed! Anyways, today I’m going through a major old music binge and remember the times when Scott and I would go to a show or two every week. Oh man, those were the days. Toward the end of the month it will be eight years since Scott and I first met at a coffee shop where he was playing with his crazy techno band! Where has the time gone? Ok, I’m out!
How has your September been so far?

Outfit details:
I’m thrilled to announce that today my Phoenix Travel Bug Guide is featured on the Modcloth blog, Story by Modcloth! I’ve been a huge fan of Modcloth for years and years now, so when the gals over at their blog asked me to capture my beloved city of Phoenix for their Travel Bug series, I jumped at the opportunity! Scott and I had such a wonderful time wandering around our city together, gathering photos of our favorite places and jotting down notes about what we loved most about each place. Phoenix is such a magical city, and I’m really excited to be able to share some bits about of our favorite places, photos to show off our city, and more photos of this darling outfit. Check out my sweet feature right here!

WE LIVE FOR THE NIGHT

09.12.14

Happy Friday! Today I’m rocking this darling dress from White Plum. I love the fall tones, the aztec print, and the name — the Phoenix Nights dress! It’s super comfy and easy to wear, perfect for these warm pre-fall days we’ve been having around here. This morning there was a bit of a chill in the air, so I threw on a cozy gray sweater over my dress before I headed out to grab my morning coffee. Fall is so, so close! White Plum actually has a ton of cute fall digs right now, and if you use the code TEATALK20 at checkout you can get 20% off your entire purchase from now until 9/25! It’s the weekend and I couldn’t be more excited for tonight’s double date night with Christina and Robert of New Darlings! I met the sweet duo at a recent Instagram meet-up and can’t wait for Scott to finally meet them — we all have so much in common! I’ve already had a busy morning, driving around town, getting my secret Dunkin Donuts drink and grocery shopping at Trader Joes. They had ALL things pumpkin at TJ’s, so of course I had to pick up a few goodies and a pumpkin tree! Have a great weekend, ya’ll!

LULU*S RUSTIC FALL COLLAB 3/5

09.12.14

Good evening! I’m back with style number three from my LuLu*s Rustic Fall Collab! You may have notice that over the past year I’ve found my passion for hats, and this one is a true gem. I love the color, the wide brim, and how it has just the right amount of floppy to it! LuLu*s, you did good with this one! Also, these comfy boots have become a staple in my pre-fall wardrobe. You just can’t beat a great black boot!

In other news, I’m listening to the new Ryan Adams album right now and just can’t get enough. I’ve adored his music for years, and this new album definitely doesn’t disappoint! If you’re looking for some new tunes right now, it’s a nice fall album. During this time of year I always find myself drawn to old favorites, like Ryan Adams, Bright Eyes, Copeland, Minus the Bear and more (get a peek at my September jams here!). It is nice to throw some new music into the mix, though, so that’s why I’ve been listening to new T-Swift tune! Sorry, but it’s darn catchy!

Tonight, Bootsy the cat and I are cuddled up while Scott finishes up some homework. Although, Boots recently found a cozy spot in a Madewell shopping bag, so I guess it’s just me here now (haha). I’m going to watch some Gypsy Wives and hit the hay. Goodnight!

COCONINO COUNTY

09.11.14

At the beginning of this month, Scott and I spent a few days in the woods of Coconino County in northern Arizona. I’ve been going to this national park every September since I was a kid, and each year it’s just as beautiful, if not more, than the years before. I remember taking walks through these trees when I was younger, getting lost on occasion, but always making my way back to our campsite in time for dinner and s’mores. For me, this has always been a very special place, and I love that today I can share the beauty of the pine trees, the smell of campfires and the pre-fall weather with Scott every September. It will forever remind me of my childhood!

Handmade necklace
Gap jeans
Since coming back down the desert our day-to-day lives have been so busy! Scott is in full-on grad school mode and getting ready to give his first presentation of the semester tomorrow. I’ve been continuing to recover from my gallbladder surgery (still have a bit of soreness, but it’s getting better), along with going to doctor’s appointments and receiving some REALLY exciting (promise to share soon!). I’ve also found myself browsing through the new fall styles at my favorite shops more than I care to admit! I am truly SO ready for this new season and everything it will bring! Also, today is my dad’s birthday and my mom and I got him tickets to see The Eagles — one of his all-time favorite bands! Happy Birthday, Dad!

A LITTLE SUNSHINE ON A RAINY DAY

09.09.14

This morning I woke up to the sound of rain and a flooded front yard, so I thought I would share some photos from a sunnier day instead of raining on your parade (see what I did there, ha!). If you didn’t hear, Phoenix had a HUGE flood today! In fact, today was the wettest day EVER on record for the city of Phoenix. CRAZY! Our streets, freeways, parking lots, parks and more were completely flooded and loads of businesses and schools shut day for a “rain day” so that everyone could stay home safe and sound. This crazy picture of the 1-10 has been floating around the internet today, and I’m still amazed every time I see it. They say this is a 100 year storm, so let’s hope we don’t see another one like this for another 100 years!

Vest: Old Navy
Dress: Madewell
Purse: Coach
In other news, besides the rain, today was an exceptionally good day! Scott and I received some great news, we went on a coffee and cookie date to one of our favorite coffee shops (LUX!), and visited with some of our best friends and their little girl (our niece!). It’s crazy because two of my best friends, one being my cousin (MOH at my wedding) are pregnant right now and due about a week a part in February! I’m so excited to be an aunty again, and have caught myself looking at newborn clothes more than once lately. Babies clothes are just SO tiny and cute! Another one of our friends just had a baby girl, so we can’t wait to visit them and spoil little Miss Danger (her middle name!). It’s kind even more crazy to think that we’re in the time of our life now where our friends are married and having babies — weren’t we just like 18? I’m sure ya’ll know what I mean! Anyways, I’m heading out but I’ll be back soon!

SEPTEMBER PLAYLIST

09.07.14

Earlier this year I started making monthly playlists, and after a short break (er, more like a six or seven month break) I’m back at it again! Lately I’ve been really into listening to old favorites, a few new songs and the occasional early-fall approved tune (Campfire Kansas always reminds me of this time of year!). Anyways, I hope you enjoy this playlist as much as I do! Let me know in the comments what you’ve been listening to lately! xo

LULU*S RUSTIC FALL COLLAB 2/5

09.06.14
Hello! I’m back with style number two from my LuLu*s Rustic Fall Collab! This time around I’m styling their twisted hipster plaid top, along with the galactic glamour midi-skirt and bamboo lace-up booties. This top screamed fall to me, and I love how it’s a little longer in the back and will look great with jeans a chunky sweater when it cools down a little more. I’m also kind of obsessed with this midi-skirt and how it can be dressed up or down. Anyways, here we go —

Today was a busy, but very exciting day! Scott and I received some great news last night (promise to share more soon!), and today I had an awesome meeting. I also started my morning with a giant iced coffee, so there was no way I was going to have a bad day after that! For dinner, we went out on a mini-date to Whole Foods. I know it may sound kind of silly, but we love going there and getting their hot and ready food. They have a whole dining area in our local Whole Foods, so it’s like you’re eating at a restaurant with a million different options. Tonight we’re laying low and staying in, but I’m still here hanging out around the blogosphere and catching up on all ya’lls blog posts – I’ve read so many great ones lately!

Outfit details:
This weekend we’re going to spend some time working on a few garden projects that we’ve been waiting to do until it was a little cooler. Scott is also planning on working on his super secret project (have I caught your interest yet? 😉 ), and I’ve got a few things I want to work on myself. I’ve been meaning to do a few more hair style posts and DIYs, so if there something you would like to see, please leave a comment and let me know! Have a great weekend, ya’ll!

HELLO, SEPTEMBER

09.04.14

It’s finally September! I feel like I’ve been waiting for this beautiful month for ages now. For me, September always marks the beginning of a transitional state – new season, cooler weather, my fall wardrobe, lots of hot coffees and much more. After having 100+ degree days for the last five months, I’m completely ready to commit to fall. While I still can’t put away all of my summer digs, I am willing to sweat it out for parts of my fall wardrobe. Phoenix friends, you know what I mean!

Outfit details:
Old Navy vest
Flowy blouse c/o DownEast Basics
Madewell necklace
Jeans: Madewell
Seychelles Scoundrel booties

This short week has been zooming by! Scott has been super busy with grad school and I’ve been working on a few projects and looking forward to a couple of exciting things that are coming down the pipeline. I also had my post-surgery appointment today, and I’m happy to report that all is well! While it will take me a few weeks (maybe even a few months) to feel completely normal again, I am happy to know that I don’t have to worry about my gallbladder rupturing (which was a huge concern pre-surgery). I’m also supposed to be trying out foods that I had to swear off over the years, like pasta sauces, spicy foods and even dairy, which my mom and Scott are stoked about. I’ve already had salsa (first time in YEARS), and spaghetti with marinara sauce is next on my list. It might sound silly, but for someone who has been on a strictly bland diet for 5 years now, this is HUGE! Now, who’s going to go out to breakfast, lunch and dinner with me? I have lots of yummy food to catch up on! 😉
