Welcome Diner
03.21.13I have a confession to make…I’m OBSESSED with the idea of diners! I know, I know, diners may not be seem like the coolest place to grab a bite, but for a gal who grew up in a city almost completely vacant of cool, old diners, they seem like the neatest little gems. Now, I’m not really into greasy foods or burgers, but when the opportunity presents itself to hang out in a old diner, you can bet your bottom dollar that I’m gonna be right there (and usually hoping there is a late-night breakfast menu I can pick something off off AND have a hot coffee, of course). Ok, so why all this diner talk? Well, the Welcome Diner just opened back up in Phoenix and a few weeks back Scott and I took a trip down to the tiny, 1940’s diner for a dinner date.
History goes that this 9-stool Valentine Diner was built in 1945 in Witchita, Kansas, and later moved to Williams, Arizona in 1955 where it operated on Route 66 for 25 years. In 1980 the sweet red and white diner was moved to downtown Phoenix and remained closed until the early 2000’s. Earlier this year the Welcome Diner welcomed it’s first customers in years, and now serves up delicious southern grub (fried chicken + the most amazing biscuits ever) during the evening, and brunch on the weekends. For now they are only open a few days a week (Thursday through Sunday), but I have a feeling that one day soon they’ll be able to expand their hours. The whole city seems just smitten with this darling diner!

Today I’m continuing to prepare for my exams (which are tomorrow and Monday), and will hopefully get a ton of study time in! This week has been so stressful with the anticipation, and I’m more than looking forward to getting these exams done and out of the way. Oh geez. Today is also surely a double and triple iced coffee kind of day, and maybe even a little treat (beauty treat?) if I can make my way out from my studying cave. Haha.
Do you have passion for diners too? What are you up to today>

Sleeveless & Ready
03.20.13Spring, is that you? YES! I think it finally is! Happy 1st day of spring! It’s safe to say that I’m truly happy this season is finally here, and coming from someone who usually holds no fondness toward spring and summer (even though I’m a spring baby!) that seems like a huge step toward a season that holds so much potential. This winter was the hardest winter of my whole life, so I’m very much looking forward to the newness, freshness, and hope that spring is said to have in store for all of us. Today I’m celebrating by wearing sleeveless tops (because it’s already in the 90’s around here), sipping a very large iced coffee, and filling my heart and soul with so much love for the new season.
Can I just say one thing – my hair is a bit out of control here, but I kind of dig it! Ok, I might have something else to say as well – I’m wearing my new favorite customized necklace from the Black & Bronze Etsy shop! My blog pal Carly (whom I’ve know for seriously years now!) opened up her darling jewelry shop and is selling the raddest, handmade pieces! My Black & Bronze piece is custom, but she took inspiration from the two pieces I was most drawn to in her shop – the Burmese Coin Pendant and the Rectangle Charm with Buffalo Nickel Coin Pendant! In all honesty, Carly is one talented lady and her shop, Black & Bronze, definitely deserves your support!

Crazy Cat Lady
03.18.13Happy Monday, sweet friends! Today is a BIG day around here, in more ways than one. Once I’m finished up here I will be editing one of my comps exams for the umpteenth time (the only one I was able to do at home) and then sending it off into the universe and just hoping I get word back on how I did soon (fingers crossed!). I also have something really exciting going on this afternoon. I’m a wee bit nervous, and don’t want to share too much just yet, but positive thoughts would be very much appreciated!
A few weeks back the sweet gals over at the lovely shop Kintage sent me this darling crazy cat lady top, but with the hustle and bustle of life (and the few hard weeks we’ve had) I just got around to wearing it this past weekend. However, once I slipped it on it didn’t take me long to fall in love with this peachy, flowy, dreamy cat lady top. It’s the perfect cut (for me – flowy and three quarter length at the sleeves) and the peach tone seems to complement my skin tone well. Maybe we should say that peach is the new black? Well, at least for spring that is!
The sweet cat detailing just kills me! I posted a picture of me wearing this top over the weekend on my Instagram and Twitter and got so many comments about this top seemed essentially for any cat lady’s wardrobe! If you ask, I’d say I totally agree! On a side note – I got a manicure with my mom on Thursday (You Don’t Know Jacques by OPI) and stocked up on nail polishes on Friday. At this point, I’m almost embarrassed to show you my nail polish collection, but I just love those little paints that make my fingers look oh so pretty!

Week 11 Wrap-Up
03.17.13Seattle Wears
03.16.13As of now, the plan is to be in Seattle toward the middle of next month. Just the thought of being in Seattle is making me feel all kinds of wanderlust, and wishing I could be there right this second.
Madewell sweater, Madewell oxfords, Madewell satchel, Gap leggings, Madewell umbrella, OPI’s You Don’t Know Jacques
Until I can hop on that jet plane and land in the Pacific Northwest, I’ll just have to continue to daydream of my perfect outfit for running around in the Seattle drizzle. Comfy jeans, a cozy sweater, rain appropriate oxfords, the perfect traveling bag, an umbrella for that non-stop drizzle I can’t wait for, and a lovely polish to wrap everything up together. Seattle, I’m coming for you (soon).
Have you ever visited Seattle for? If so, what are some of your favorite places/coffee shops around there?

Brighten Up
03.14.13Let’s face it, I’m a neutrals girl at heart. I love my white t-shirts, dark skinny jeans, staple leather bags, and cardigans in every neutral color imaginable. However, when spring rolls around I usually catch the brightness bug that seems to be going around and end up with a hot fever for bold colors. Well, this years appears to be no different and right now I’m eyeing some colorful tops and beauty products to bring into my spring clothing and makeup wardrobe. First thing I checked off my list recently – this coral/orangey balm stain from Revlon in Rendezvous (which I’m totally smitten with)!
Today it hit 90 degrees in Phoenix and I’m sure that I won’t be reaching for this exact outfit again anytime soon (well, maybe, I do love my layering). Scott and I are in the midst of spring break and having been spending many mornings/afternoons/evenings at coffee shops, people watching and working on school work (I – comps exams preparation, He – a paper & some test preparation). Even though we’ve been bogged down by work, we have been sneaking away for a few shopping trips (me) and an evening out (him with his brothers). I’ve already made a few spring beauty purchases, but I’m in need of a few new spring staples. The problem is though, I haven’t quite found many things that I’m liking currently in the stores. Have you found any good spring staples lately?

Emerging Spring
03.12.13This post is way overdue (and these photos are from early February), but I figured this would be a good stepping stone to getting back into the swing of blogging again. To be quite honest, I haven’t taken outfit photos in weeks (and for good reasons), but I’m really starting to miss it. When you’ve done something once, twice, three times a week for multiple years it gets engrained in your brain as an every day routine, and once you start to go without it, well, you start to feel not like yourself anymore. Even thought I may not get back to outfit photos this week (I’m knee deep in studying for my comps exams – oh grad life), but I will be excited to do so when the time is right.
This darling cream lace top from Emerging Thoughts has gotten so much wear lately. I love how it instantly adds a little bit of uniqueness to an otherwise plain, staple white top. As of now it’s out of stock on the Emerging Thoughts website, but right now they are having a super sweet spring fever sale (15% off store wide with the code springfever).

What’s on your spring wish list? I haven’t been clothes shopping in months and think it’s (almost) finally time to pick up a few warm weather purchases. I know I’m in desperate need of some new sleeveless tops, a few pairs of jeans (I’m so not a shorts kind of girl), and a new pair of sandals. I did just pick up some new polishes from new Essie Spring 2013 collection, and I’ve got my eye on a few bright lipsticks and blushes for the warmer months. Oh, spring, I’m ready for you!

Spots Of Sunshine
03.11.13Days are still rough around here, but incredibly sweet friends, the most kind cousin, and lots of coffee have been brightening up my days lately.
1. I’ve had so many people ask me where this sweet garden coffee shop is – well, it’s Vinyl Rush in downtown Mesa, friends! // 2. Bobbi of The Mason Bar Company was incredibly kind and sent me one of her amazing amazing 24oz mason jar tumblers. I plan on doing a proper post, but just wanted to say that I’ve been LOVING carry it around every day and filling it with my favorite iced coffee! If you haven’t checked out Bobbi’s shop, I highly suggest doing so! // 3. Brunch date with my favorite cousin, Odiecakes. I just don’t know what I would do without that sweet lady xo // 4. A little snapshot from the mini-party that the Phoenix Style Collective hosted at the Kendra Scott store. Love how bright this lovely store is!
I’m officially on spring break and will be spending the whole break preparing for my comps exams the following week. Positive thoughts and strong coffee would be much appreciated.
Thanks again, sweet friends, for being here for me.
Love,
Chelsea xo
The Heaviest
03.09.13My family suffered an incredible loss this past Saturday, and since then I haven’t been able to bring myself to blog. My grandma was my guiding light, and the most amazing woman I have ever known. Many of you have reached out to me during this time of immense hurt, and I want to say thank you so much for doing so. Your kind words have meant so much to me, and I so appreciate you keeping my family and I in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you so much, sweet friends.
I’ll be back in the swing of things when the time feels right. Thank you all for understanding at this time.
Forever and ever will her memory reside in my heart.
Love,
Chelsea
