With Hearts

02.28.13

You know what’s refreshing? To learn about a local company who’s on a mission to promote sustainable fashion and direct collaborations with amazing artists! According to their website, Hearts products are the result of a collaboration between artisans strengths and the natural materials their surrounding environments provide them, along with the love and collaborative efforts from the Hearts design team. Recently, the very sweet team at Hearts reached out to me to tell me a little bit more about their mission, and also to see if I would like to style up one of their amazing pieces. Needless to say, I jumped at the opportunity and have been carrying my Hearts Beat Foldover Clutch around with pride!

Awhile back Hearts visited Guatemala to meet with artisan communities, and to experience the Guatemalan culture first-hand. The Hearts team observed ancient weaving traditions that have been carried forward by contemporary masters, and listened to artisans, who now lovingly create Hearts designs, talk about their own lives. Hearts’ partnership with these Guatemalan artisans enables them to devote their extraordinary traditional skills to the creation of design-driven product lines, whose sale ensures they continue to improve their own families’ quality of life. The clutch I’m featuring was made with traditional Guatemalan brocade foot looming techniques, AZO free dye, glass seed beads, and antique brass. It really is quite the unique piece, and I know I will cherish it for years to come.

Have you checked out Hearts? I extra love that they are a local company, and it fills my heart with joy to see such sweet people working for such an amazing cause! Keep up the great work, Hearts crew! Oh, and if you’re interested in picking up our own Hearts clutch, or something else from their shop, use the code CHELSEA30 for 30% off your order!

I’m off to work on a take-home exam (eww), and then hopefully to the Ladies Night Out event at Union at the Biltmore! What are you up to tonight?

Welcome Home, Piper!

02.26.13

It’s officially been two weeks since we brought Miss Piper home! This photo was taken the day after we welcomed her home, and I can’t believe how much she has already grown since then. Over the past two weeks her personality has really  been shining through, and she’s proving to be spunky, oh so sweet, slightly stubborn, and loving right down to her core. She loves, loves her big brother, Scout, and although she has plenty of kisses to give to him, she’s quite sparing with her kisses for us humans (however, I have received more, and more kisses the past few days). She likes to sleep on her back, and have a few naps throughout the day. She’s a good eater, and likes to sit with Scout and watch him eat while she does the same. She doesn’t mind being held and carried around (oh, this is the part of being a puppy that I cherish most), and loves a good snuggle when the time is right.

Truthfully, she’s a perfect fit for our family and I couldn’t imagine not having her with in our family. Thank you, little Piper, for making our family whole.
Love,
Chelsea

Time Turner

02.26.13

Do you ever wish that you could have a time turner just like the one Hermione Granger has in Harry Potter? Ya know, so you could attend one class, or one event, or one coffee shop date, and then when you were done, twirl it around and go on to your next gig. Yeah, wouldn’t that be something! However, since us Muggles aren’t really capable of anything quite like this just yet (yet!), it’s still fun to pretend and think that maybe just one little twist of a charm could restart your whole day over again. This sweet sand timer necklace I’ve been wearing lately from Unexpected Expectancy totally makes me think of Hermione’s Time Turner, and leaves me wishing daily that there was a little clock working magic in it (although, it still is oh so cute on it’s own – magic or no magic).

Button-up: Levi’s

Today has definitely been one of those days were I wish I could just flick the time back with a flip of the timer. My morning starting off quite slowly (oh, Mondays), and my afternoon was filled with a nice lunch date in the sun with my  honey, as well as an unexpected errand, and now I’m already at school just waiting for class to start. Seriously days, quit zooming by me!

On another note, I’m totally obsessing over the movies Warm Bodies and Silver Linings Playbook and want to see them over, and over again! I also can’t stop listening to Midnight City by M83 and LOVE how they worked this amazing song into a scene in Warm Bodies! It may come as a surprise to a few of you, but I’ve always been an electronic/techno/dancey/ music kind of gal, and lately my obsession has just grown! I can’t get enough of dancey beats and music that makes me want to listen to it the loudest my speakers will go. Yep, it’s definitely a current obsession!

What are you really into right now?

Off to class!

Week 8 Wrap-Up

02.24.13

This weekend (which usually beings on Thursday night because neither Scott nor or I have classes on Friday) started off with some relaxation, and a little movie date. Friday was a day to get back to the grind (aka endless amounts of homework), and Saturday was just about the same. Today I have a few errands to run, a visit with my grandma set, more homework to attend to, and then I’m picking my uncle up from the airport tonight!

1. Working a side part, feeling very much like my high school self! HA! // 2. A mini Ulta Haul – loving all three so far. // 3. I’ve spent endless time on school work lately, which means so many coffee dates. // 4. I had such a great morning showing my friend Sarah around downtown Mesa!
3 Weekly Favorites:
1. Finally seeing Warm Bodies with my love. The movie was extra quirky, and the soundtrack was perfect.
2. Wandering around Ulta, getting so excited about spring makeup looks. Silly, but I totally love how happy makeup makes me feel!
3. My sweet friend Ashley’s videos always put a big smile on my face!
2  Hopes for the New Week:
1. That I get SO much school work done this coming week, again!
2. That I can find a good balance
1 Last Thought:
Piper is quite snuggly, sleeping on my lap right now!

How was your weekend? What are you most looking forward to this week? What’s your favorite snack?

The Swing of Spring

02.23.13

1. Essie’s Ole Caliente // 2. Cork it Over Tote // 3. Specs Mixed Gold and Tortoise Sunglasses // 4. Bamboo Steno 50 Sandals // 5. BB Dakota by Jack Cherry Floral Dress

Late last night I found myself window shopping on the LuLu*s website and couldn’t help but feel super inspired for my spring wardrobe. I would be more than happy to dawn this pretty frock, those darling sandals, those perfect sunnies, that fun tote, and that eye catching polish out for an afternoon on the town. Iced coffee would definitely be a must, along with a stroll through my favorite parts of Phoenix (where I may stop in a few vintage shops, many coffee shops, and also my favorite Urban Cookies for a delicious treat!).

What spring styles have been catching your eye lately? What would your perfect spring outfit look like?  Anything catching your eye in the spring section of the LuLu*s website?

Making a Statement

02.22.13

Statement necklaces are not something that I’ve really given a good go at. I know they been on-trend for quite some time now, but I’ve been opting to stick with my simple chains and charms (which I love) on an everyday basis. However, when I stumbled upon Jewliqu and found their amazing selection of statement necklaces, I could’t help but want to incorporate one into a very casual outfits (which let’s be honest, I could pretty much live in jeans, a long top, and cardigan).

I love the pop of color and style this collar necklace brings to an otherwise staples only outfit, and how it made me feel a little pushed out of my comfort zone. Now that I’ve conquered the statement necklace trend, I feel that I can do anything! Pass my comps exams? Check! Find an amazing job by May? Check! Turn 25 without having a quarter life crisis? Big check! Let’s do this!

Cardigan: Madwell
Top: Last Chance
Aqua Pebbles Collar necklace: c/o Jewliq
Jeans: Levi’s
Flats: Tory Burch

Yesterday Scott and I took a little mental health day (after I finished class and he finished up doing his taxes). I spent some time looking around a few favorite shops, had a delicious salmon salad (ps I never ever liked salmon until very recently, so I felt quite proud of myself for gobbling down my salmon salad while listening to the sweetest older southern lady talk about her funky colored nails to her rather conservative husband), and may have splurged on a few new beauty items. We also went to see Warm Bodies last night, which we both fully enjoyed (although, the eating of the brains and body parts just wasn’t my cup of tea). Today we’re back to the same old routine of the homework hustle!

What are your plans for the weekend? Have you seen warm bodies yet? Are you into statement necklaces?

Let It Snow!

02.21.13

Just wanted to stop to say things have been busy, busy around here, but also oh so amazing! Did you know that it snowed in Phoenix yesterday? Snowed, in Phoenix! How crazy is that! The last time that happened was around 2007 or 2008 when I was attending community college and everyone in class was talking about making snowmen and snow angels in their front yards! Oh Phoenix, you are so crazy sometimes!

I hear that there have been quite a few blustery storms blowing around the Continental US lately. I guess winter just wanted to make sure we all knew that he (I think of winter as a he, don’t you?) was sticking around just for a little longer.

I’m off to a movie date with my love! We’ve been waiting to see Warm Bodies for weeks now, and finally some have time to see it tonight! What are you up to today? Has it been extra chilly where you live?

Cozy in the Cold

02.19.13

Something about a cozy sweater makes everything just feel right. Well, that may be because right now I’m battling a sinus cold – cough, cough – but really, a cozy sweater is the perfect winter accessory and this one from LuLu*s  has been among my favorites this season. I’m a huge sucker for anything aztec print, and love the classic combo of black and white (fav color combo, ever). Lately I’ve been trying to get as much wear out of it as I possibly can before it gets too warm to wear it in Phoenix. This weekend were supposed to have a cool down (in the 50’s and raining), so I’m looking forward to spending a cozy night wrapped up in this sweater, sipping hot tea, and watching Perks of being a wallflower.

Cozy Neighbor Black and Ivory sweater: c/o Lulus
Top: Madewell
June bracelets: c/o Stowe Street – use promo code teatalk15 to get 15% off your next order!
Typewriter button: Jar of Buttons
Jeans: Levi’s
Oxfords: Steve Madden

I’ve spent the most of today, so far, working on a take-home exam that’s due tomorrow at midnight. I’ve only got one question left to answer (the hardest of the bunch – oh why do I leave those until the end?), and I’m thinking that I should treat myself to a pretty new lipstick or blush for a job well done when I finish it up. Scott has also been working extra, extra hard on school work lately, and I think he deserves a treat as well (although, I don’t think he’s much into makeup).

How do you like to reward yourself for a job well done? What’s your favorite hot tea?
