Stiletto Red

11.29.12

With the winter season almost among us, I’ve been given a lot of thought into the things I would like to do in the coming season. Since it doesn’t snow around here, I know I would love to head up north and play in the snow in either Prescott or Flagstaff. Usually Scott and I make a trip up north every year to see the snow, but since last year’s snow fall was very light we didn’t make the drive up, but this year I have my heart set on seeing some snow. I also want to find the neighborhood that has the best Christmas lights in the area (PHX friends, can you help a girl out?), and also have my heart set on doing a few fun holiday makeup tutorials!

Lately my favorite every day makeup look has included bold eyeliner and a classic red lip. I recently tried out Too Faced’s La Creme Color Drenched Lip Cream in Stiletto Red and I’ve been loving it! Not only is the lip cream moisturizing, but the color payoff is wonderful and even after hours of wear your lips are left with the prettiest tint. I also have the shade Naked Dolly, a satin pink, and have already added Sweet Maple and Juicy Melons to my wish list!

This morning I’ve been moving a little slowly, but I’m excited for the busy afternoon ahead of me. I have class a little later this afternoon, and I’m also hoping to get a few final papers wrapped up. The end of the semester is on the horizon and it’s scary how quickly it’s coming. Myself and a group of fellow Commuication Studies graduate students are working together on a campaign for one of our classes that is centered on learning on how to correctly recycle plastic bags. We just finished up our video for the campaign, so I thought I would share it here. If you’re interested in checking it out you can watch the video right here.

Later on this afternoon I’m working on something super exciting (promise to share more ASAP!), and also hope to have a coffee date with my favorite cousin (love you, Odessa!).

What are you up to today? What’s on your winter bucket list? Have you tried out Too Face’s La Creme Color Drenched Lip Cream?

Anything Could Happen

11.27.12

On Black Friday I got sucked into the $7 CD section and Target ended up walking out with Ellie Goulding’s Halcyon. I first saw Ellie during a performance she did on The Today Show about a month ago, and was captivated with her unique voice and bright white hair. I also kept hearing that Ellie was Skrillex’s boyfriend, but what I didn’t know was who was Skrillex (I know, behind on the times). After a little research I learned that “Skrillex” is really Sonny from the now defunked band From First To Last Night (crazy!). When Scott and I were around age 16 we both went to a FFTL show at an old dive bar, The Mason Jar for you locals, and are pretty certain we were standing next to each other for about an hour or two in line before the show started. It’s crazy to think that our souls were already connected by then.

Ever since I got Ellie’s CD I haven’t been able to stop listening to Anything Could Happen. I love the beats and electronic static behind the vocals, and also how ghostly hear voice can sound at times. Her musical presence is haunting, and perfect for an icy morning.

This morning I’m getting ready to meet up with my sweet friend, Courtney, and then I’m headed to class afterward. I hear it’s supposed to get slightly warm today (almost 80? Yikes!), but I plan on indulging in lots of hot coffee and a cozy scarf to keep the fall/almost winter nostalgia alive!

What are you up to today? Do you like Ellie Goulding? Who’s your favorite musician right now?

Skyfall

11.26.12

I am by no means a high-action, thriller type of movie gal, however, every year that a 007 movie comes out I always end up in the theater, popcorn and lemonade in hand, indulging in a little adrenaline-inducing movie action. Skyfall really didn’t disappoint, and I really enjoyed the whole film. The cinematography was amazing!

During the winter months my family usually gets into a groove of frequent moviegoing. My parents have always been into going to the movies, and growing up they passed this passion along to me. This movie season I’m looking forward to seeing Guilt Trip, This is 40, and Les Miserables. I’m still a little dissapionted that The Great Gatsby release got pushed to this summer, but I will surely be in line to see it opening day!

I felt kind of fancy in this ensemble. I’m a sucker for a classic black, white, and red combo, and was happy I was able to layer up a bit. I’m still pretty smitten with my Kipper booties from Blowfish Shoes and today only they are offering 25% off sitewide, plus free shipping with the code CYBER. These booties would make a great present for a loved one, or even a nice addition to your winter wardrobe!

Cardigan: Gap
The Right Stripes Dress: c/o LuLu*s
Leggings: TJMaxx
Kipper Booties: c/o Blowfish Shoes

Today I have a bunch of work to catch up on – I may have taken a break from all of my school responsibilities over the break  – and also have a very exciting giveaway from A Lovely Little Shop to post later today!

How was your weekend? Did you score any great deals?

Giving Thanks

11.24.12

Happy Saturday, sweet friends! I just wanted to pop in to say I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving, full of yummy food, lots of family and friends, and a moment to think about what we are all really thankful for. I had a very nice day with my family, going to the local car show and eating a delicious meal, and also had a lovely evening with sweet friends and my amazing boyfriend, eating yummy desserts and watching Home Alone 2!

Yesterday I spent a little time shopping around for a few Black Friday deals. Every year I like going out to look at the sales, even if nothing catches my eye. This year I ended up purchasing a few things, and enjoyed a large coffee while doing so (great motivator, if you ask me!). I’m pretty sure I walked over a mile through the shopping plaza, but it really felt good to stretch after a day of laziness and yummy food.

Today a handful of Black Friday sales are still going on, and I thought I would mention a few of my favorites:
Radiant Cosmetics is offering free shipping plus a free pressed powder with code CELEBRATE through Giving Tuesday.
Ban.do is offering 20% off any order with the code GIVETHANKS
Blowfish Shoes is offering 20% off everything in their store with the code BLACKOUT, and ends today.
LuLu*s has a whole section devoted to Black Friday, filled with awesome steals and deals that are still going on right now.
Le Mode Accessories is offering 15% sitewide with the code TYSALE now through Sunday.

Today is also Small Business Saturday and I want to encourage everyone to go out and shop local today!

How was everyone’s Thanksgiving? Did you go Black Friday shopping?

Eat at Matt’s

11.20.12

Awhile back my favorite Phoenix breakfast spot, Matt’s Big Breakfast, moved shop (literally a block or so to some bigger digs). This, along with our anniversary (eck! I didn’t mean to wait this long to post these), called for a special brunch date with my guy.

This was one of our very first cool mornings here in Phoenix, and we were so excited to check out Matt’s new digs. For years now we’ve been going to Matt’s Big Breakfast, and we were excited that they were opening in a bigger space (although, sometimes the charm of Matt’s was having to wait so long to get in and sitting in a teeny, tiny old building – taking in the sunshine from the huge windows and sipping hot coffee). The space itself is beautiful, and the building holds some history for Scott and I. Years ago the new Matt’s was a local venue called the Oneplace, and Scott and his then band used to play there. In later years it was also a delicious mexican food restaurant that we used to go to while I was in Journalism school, and now I’m happy that the space is living on in such a beautiful way.

Scott and I are getting really excited about Thanksgiving! This year we decided to order a pumpkin pie from Urban Cookies, and I’m hoping to make a delicious veggie side dish that Chelsea sent me the recipe to. Do you have a favorite dish or pastry/pie that you order ever year for the holiday?

Outfit details:
Cardigan: Last Chance

Shirt: Madewell
Skirt: Banana Republic
Bag: Madewell
Flats: c/o Marshalls

This morning I’m off to class and will probably stop for a coffee along the way. I have two meetings today, both grad school related, and hope all goes well with both of them. Final projects are quickly approaching and I need to make sure I’m at the top of my game!

What are you up to today?

Uber in Phoenix!

11.17.12

On Wednesday Scott and I went to a launch event for Uber, the valley’s newest on-demand private driver service.  A few months back I heard a rumor that Uber might be coming to my city, and ever since then I have been following the progress/updates of the company on making their way to the valley. I first heard about Uber over a year ago from a friend in Seattle who works for the company as a Community Manager, and have always been amazed out how personable and awesome the company is to their clients and employees. I absolutely love how involved Uber is in social media, and how quick they are to respond if you ever have any questions at all. Before Uber even came to the valley, they had already made a great impression in my book.

Scott and I took our first Uber to the launch event. We were so excited to open up their app, mark right where we wanted to be picked up on their map system, and then watch our driver on the map as he made our way to us.

Both of our rides to and from the event were awesome (we rode in two of Uber’s signature, black SUVs), and our driver’s were super cool (even let us pick the kind of music we wanted to listen to!).

Our friend Gabe is the Community Manager for Phoenix, and we are both so proud of him for all of the incredibly handwork he has put in these past few months getting Phoenix ready for Uber. Congrats Gabe and the Phoenix Uber team!

Our friends Sarah and Josh joined us at the event and we all enjoyed some delicious food at hot coffee (the scones and clotted cream were SO yummy!).

So, have you given Uber, whether in Phoenix or not, a try yet? I highly suggest downloading their app and checking out the company yourself! I also want to say that this post was not sponsored by Uber, and that I am truly a huge fan of company and I’m so happy to finally have them here in Phoenix!

Bella Forever

11.17.12

And just like that, the series is over. Yes, I am talking about the beloved Twilight Saga movies. Yes, I am a sometimes-closet fan of the series. I read the first three books back to back during the summer of 2008, after I kept seeing the books pop up everywhere. When I started reading the series, I wasn’t really aware of the fandom that surrounded the books, but I soon learned of their massive popularity, and also of their connection to my home state (I was staying in Colorado for the summer at the time).

When the first film came out, I received what felt like a “golden ticket” to see the film a few days before the release date. I remember the excitement that filled the room, and how happy I was to be able to see a book I loved so much come to life. Today, during an afternoon showing of the final film in the series, the feeling was no different. However, I can’t lie that my feelings were being chased with a slight tinge of sadness for the thought that the series is now all over. It’s nice to think though that books, however, really do live on forever, and for that I’m thankful.

This weekend I am in need of a major study session! Slowly but surely my final projects are creeping their way into my life (already?), and it’s time to start kicking them in the butt! I also have dreams of knitting a tunnel scarf, and maybe also finishing up the current book I’m reading.

What do you have planned for this weekend? Seeing Breaking Dawn or another movie?

Snaps From This Early November

11.15.12

Just some snaps from this year’s early November. Right now I’m obsessing over this amazing fall/pre-winter light we’ve been having lately (makes each day feel like I’m living in a movie), and also steaming hot cups of coffee that have not been leaving my hands these past few days (perfect way to warm up during a chilly day).

What have you been obsessing over during these beautiful early/mid November days?
