Hello, friends! On our first full day in San Diego, after the fog had finally settled, we headed to Sunset Cliffs to take in the sights and get our first peek at the Pacific Ocean. A couple of our friends had suggested we check out this gorgeous look-out point, and while it was a bit of a drive from our airbnb, it was definitely worth the trip. We parked our car about a mile away from what looked like the main look-out on the map, and took a nice long walk along the coast.
The views from along the cliffs were simply breathtaking — crashing waves, endless ocean and a few hidden beaches along the way. While the fog had burned mostly off, a blanket of clouds remained, giving us a shady, yet very muggy, walk along the cliffs.
Truth be told, I could have could sat on the cliffside and stared out into the ocean all day. There’s just something so calming and peaceful about the ocean waves, crashing back and forth and moving the tide along the way. It may sound silly, but to me, there’s nothing better than being surrounded by open water. It may be because I grew up a desert rat and didn’t have the luxury of high-tailing it to the beach whenever I felt like it, but even if I did — I have a feeling the ocean, water and waves would always be a few of my favorite things.
If you’re ever in San Diego, I highly suggest making the trek out to Sunset Cliffs. I wish we would have had time to come back when it was actually sunset, but alas, it was still insanely beautiful and breathtaking. On a side note, today has been a bit of a crazy day and I would do just about anything to be back here enjoying this view, listening to the waves as they crash against the cliffs, and maybe even sneaking a kiss, or two, from my love as we just breathed it all in.
A few weeks back, Scott and I took a last-minute trip to San Diego. We’ve been talking about making the five hour drive down to the coast for years now, and since this is the summer of travel — we decided to just GO. We booked a rental car, as well as cozy studio through airbnb, and were headed out the door and toward the ocean before we knew it. On our very first morning in San Diego, we woke up to the most beautiful fog. Our airbnb had the most beautiful canyon view, but at this moment it was hard to see more than twenty feet in front of your face. Being the desert gal I am (who rarely gets to experience fog), I woke Scott up from his sweet slumber and insisted that he follow me outside.
The fog felt refreshing, sending of a wave of calm energy that really set the tone for our whole trip. While our plans for the weekend were busy and full of adventure, we stayed calm and relaxed — which made for an even more wonderful trip.
If you’re curious, this is the airbnb we stayed in — secluded studio with canyon view. Our hosts were amazing, and I would definitely stay there again.
Have you ever used airbnb before? This was our second time using it, as we stayed in an airbnb while in San Francisco for our honeymoon.
Well, hello there! Sorry for the crickets around here — I’ve just been galavanting along the coast and up and over to Southern Utah. The last few weeks sure have been a whirlwind, but in the best possible way. We’ve gone from the desert, to the beach, up to the mountains and back down down to the desert again. We’ve dipped our toes in the Pacific Ocean, flew over the great Salt Lake and saw the Grand Canyon from 10,000 feet in the air. We’ve kissed and cuddled our puppies, and come home to two very needy cats. We’ve also begun a new chapter in our lives, with Scott starting a new, full-time job (today — woot, woot!), and are still adjusting to life back in the heat. To say the last few weeks have been wonderful would be an understatement, because they’ve truly been nothing short of amazing (and exhausting all at once — ha).
I have so, so much I want to share — pictures, stories, memories and more. However, for now, I’ll be leaving you with a few photos from a very colorful day at The Saguaro in Scottsdale, AZ. Scott and I literally had to dodge a huge group of young, pool partying college kids to get to this very orange wall (sidetone: it was totally worth it). I’ll always have good feelings toward The Saguaro — we had the first Arizona Blogger Conference here (way back in 2012!), and have also taken more photos in this incredibly colorful space than I can remember anymore. My most favorite memory, though, has to be when Scott and I “tied the knot” just across the way! <3 p="">
Anyways, I’ll be back soon with plenty of photos, stories, memories and more from our summer thus far. In the meantime, let’s talk — what have ya’ll been up to? Any fun adventures? Exciting news? Have you found the most refreshing, summer-time drink yet? If so, please share!
If you’ve ever taken a peek at my Instagram, you know that my day almost always involves a stop at Peixoto Coffee! I wrote my first post about Peixoto Coffee back in February when their doors first opened, and since then I’ve spent countless mornings, afternoons and evenings sipping coffee in this darling shop in Downtown Chandler. Scott and I have also created a strong bond and friendship with the owners (Jeff and Julia, an amazing husband and wife team), as well as with their talented baristas and even a few other Peixoto regulars. To say that we’re dedicated to this coffee is an understatement, but alas, I’m sure you’ve already gathered that if you follow me on social media. 😉 So, I’m back today to share their story once again, and to encourage all of you stop by Peixoto Coffee the next time you’re in Chandler!
For the past 150 years, the Peixoto family has been upholding their crop-to-cup tradition. Located in the Southeast region of Brazil, the Peixoto family farm grows every Brazilian coffee bean that makes its way into the shop. Along with the coffee that they serve from their family farm, they also serve other single-origin coffees, espresso-based drinks, cold-brew (my favorite!), cascara (delicious iced tea), their own version of an Arnold Palmer and other signature iced beverages (like coconut iced coffee and Nitro cold brew!) — any of which would be delicious during these hot summertime days.
Peixoto Coffee not only offers delicious and unique drinks, they also have a cozy space with lots of seating (most of it vintage or re-style by the owners) and are completely kid-friendly. Jeff and Julia’s have two littles of their own and know how important it is to have a space where you can not only sit and enjoy, but your kids too. The service they provide is also top-notch, so if you’re on the go and just want stop in for a quick iced coffee to-go, their awesome baristas will have it out to have you as quickly as you ordered it — so nice when you’re on the run, but want to support your favorite local shop!
Since the summer heat has hit us in full-force, Scott I have been stopping in at Peixoto during the mornings for an iced coffee, and then sometimes in the evening too for a little pick-me-up and a cold drink. Peixoto recently released their Nitro cold brew (think a frothy and smooth iced coffee), and Scott and I are both big fans! Our usual drink order is a large cold brew, but sometimes it’s nice to venture out and get something different. On this day I had a yummy cappuccino, but next time we go (straight from the plane on Sunday, I’m sure!) I plan on having a coconut cold brew — YUM!
Peixoto Coffee is open seven days a week and is always hosting pop-up shops and local events in their lounge space. Their next event is their “Summer Coffee Happy Hour” on Friday, July 10th from 4-8pm! You can find out more about their store hours, events, their darling coffee shop and even purchase beans (for all of your out-of-towners) on their website! Also don’t forget to like their Facebook page, also check out their awesome coffee photos and tweets on Instagram and Twitter. If you live locally, make sure you stop in at Peixoto the next time you’re in Chandler! I hope to see so many of you there in the near future!
Also, a big thank you goes out to Peixoto Coffee for sponsoring this post! Thank you for supporting me in doing what I love — and always keeping me highly caffeinated!
Hello! Scott and I are back from our California adventure and I wanted to say thank ya’ll so much for the recommendations and kind notes — we had the best time in San Diego! While on our trip we must have taken 500 photos (and videos too!), but we took these photos a few weeks before we left the land of the the desert (aka Phoenix where is was 115 degrees while we were gone), so before I got on a roll with posting those photos, I wanted to share these because I absolutely loved this gorgeous early summer day and how beautiful the lighting was in our favorite orchard.
June has been a crazy, busy month and I can’t believe it’s almost over! Since coming back to California, Scott and I purchased airline tickets and will be hopping on a jetplane Saturday afternoon to spend a week with my folks in Salt Lake City, UT. I’m so excited for the beautiful weather, the lush landscape, and to see my pups, Piper and Scout, who I’ve missed terribly while they’ve been away with my folks for the summer.
If you have any suggestions for neat restaurants, shops, coffee shops, etc., in the Salt Lake City area — please send them my way! I’m also hoping to meet up with an old friend (Hi Lucia!), and also a few sweet ladies that I’ve met through Instagram and blogging of the years. I love that because of this ol’ blog of mine that I’ve been able to make friends in cities all over the country, including Salt Lake and Chicago — which I’ll be headed to in August for the Create & Cultivate conference. Will I be seeing any of you there? Let a lady know! 😉
I already have a feeling that this summer will be full of traveling, and I feel so blessed that I get to do so much of it with this sweet guy — he’s my rock, my travel companion and built-in coffee date/best friend, among many other things– doesn’t get much better than that!
Are you headed anywhere fun this summer? Where’s your favorite place to travel to? Have any big plans that you’re checking off of your bucket-list this summer?

Hello! I started writing this post when we weren’t actually in California yet, so the title still feels relevant — even though I’m currently sitting in our darling AirBnB in San Diego with all the windows and patio door open, taking in the cool breeze and our gorgeous view of a canyon below us. We arrived here late last night after a quick 5+hour drive from Phoenix, and now we’ll be spending the next few days enjoying the cooler weather, the ocean waters, lots and lots of coffee shops, and of course, the Del Mar Fair!
Scott and I have been dreaming about taking this mini-getaway for quite some time now, so we’re very excited to finally be here and staying in the most darling place. If you have any suggestions of places we should go or things we should see during our stay here in San Diego, pretty please leave them in a comment below!
Before the sweltering heat kicked in (for reals, yesterday was 109 degrees — woof!), Scott and I spent an afternoon picking apples at the farm at Agritopia. You may be thinking — apples? I know, it’s a bit early, but because of our mostly hot spring/summer days we have to get our picking in before the summer really fires up and while the apples are ripe for the picking. Anyways, Scott and I had the best time wandering around the apple orchard, picking apples, juggling a few here and there, and see how high we can get them to go in the air. 😉
We ended up picking a couple pounds of apples, which were all pretty tart — so Scott made us the most amazing apple pie, apple + grilled cheese sandwiches, apple salads and so many more delicious savory and sweet dishes. I feel like I’m teasing my midwest and east coast friends with our crazy-early apples, but I promise, friends, your time to pick those delicious green and red apples will come. Until then, we’ll just be here soaking in the sun and enjoying summer to the fullest! Have I mentioned that were headed to San Diego on Thursday for a mini-getaway? We can’t wait and would love any suggestion you may have!
Hello, Thursday? Wow! This week has literally gone by in a flash! I had all intentions of blogging Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday — but, sometimes life gets busy and you find yourself sleeping on the couch at 9pm (or out at a super awesome dinner party that you just couldn’t say no to!). Anyways, it’s Thursday and I’m happy to be here! We’ve been having the most beautiful days around here, the kind that are the envy of all dessert dwellers out there — 90’s in the day and 80’s in the evening — do we really live in Arizona? With that said, I did roll out of bed this morning to find bright and shining skies and no clouds in sight. Even though it may be HOT today, it’s going to be a great one — I can feel it!
I wore this dress to Scott’s Grad School graduation (which was already a month ago – wow!). I had been eyeing it every time I took through a stroll through Anthropologie, so once I found it on sale I knew I had to make it mine. Well, that and after Scott told me that he really loved seeing me in white dresses, swoon! It’s a bit fancy for every day wear, but I love it for special occasions and maybe even a fancy dinner or too. Scott and I are planning a mini-getaway right now and this darling dress will definitely be making its way into my suitcase for a fancy dinner with my love.
Are you planning any summer getaways? Please share!
A few weeks back, Scott and I saw one of our all-time favorite bands in concert, Copeland. Between the two of us, we’ve seen them at least a dozen times (most of them together), and even attended what we thought would be our very last Copeland show ever. Fast forward five or so years later and we’re standing together in a crowed room listening to the sweet sounds of Aaron Marsh buzz through the overheard speakers. It was a surreal moment to be listening to him live once again – a little older, a little wiser, but still the same Aaron. I would be lying if I didn’t say I felt the same about Scott and I as we stood there in a room full of people our age and younger (much younger!). Copeland is a band that grew with us and will forever hold a special place in my heart.
I know I’ve mentioned it before, but for those who don’t know — the song Coffee by Copeland was the song that Scott and I had our first dance to at our wedding. It’s truly always been “our song,” so it only seemed fitting that we dance to it as we celebrated our newly wed life. Over a year and a half later, I sent out a tweet containing a simple request, one that I hoped Aaron Marsh would see – play Coffee so we can dance to it like we did on our wedding day. Well, I don’t know if it was my tweet that persuaded him (he did “favorite” my tweet after the show), but he did sing our song, and liked we promised, we danced and swayed as he sang every word that had grown to mean so much to us. So thank you, Aaron Marsh, you truly made our evening!
You may be asking, what does this outfit have to do with Copeland? Well, nothing, BUT I am wearing a necklace I had custom made before our wedding — a little circle pendant that reads, “if it’s not too late for coffee,” — a favorite lyric from “our song” — Coffee, of course.
While I’m hoping it’s not another five years until we see Copeland again, I sure tried to soak in every second that I could just in case it’s a while until we see them again. Speaking of coffee, it’s Thursday and I’m need of a second cup. Care to join me? What’s your favorite coffee drink?
